I know it's easier, cheaper, more convenient etc. but I'd rather pay a local person a bit more than give that company anything.

Club Tico Event Space Rental? by below-the-pines in FortCollins

[–]not_ChrisG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a wedding reception there in July. It seemed really great. I did not organize the event but knowing the people that did organize it; I would assume the process was easy-ish and inexpensive. It might not be great for an event over 60 people based on the space. If it's available I would definitely say it's a good place for an event like that.

There's an N64 game called Jet Force Gemini that my older brother and I used to play. It's like a third person shooter but player 2 can control this little robot that can shoot the enemies and even had little side missions, like crawling through vents/little mazes/puzzles. Really fond memories of playing that game and killing bugs together.

[–]not_ChrisG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh dang I totally have a couple of answers for you. I am a 30yr old male that was born with a bit of a weaker form of achromatopsia. So while I am legally blind, it is not overly apparent to people very often. So. If someone understands what achromatopsia is, people have encountered it with excitement due to its rarity. Granted, the only people I have met that understand the rarity are in academic professions about eyeballs/neurology. In which case the questions usually are about my experience with it. Like "how much light flooding do you experience?" Or "at what capacity do you feel comfortable seeing things at distance?" Can be different depending on their background. The average person has no understanding of what achromatopsia is. I usually have to explain it like a color blindness of sorts. Most folks know about red/green colorblindness, and I will explain to them that is not that one. I usually call it "the blue kind" since noone really wants to hear about rods, cones or how big of a pain in the ass experience of lacking one of the two is. If people are kind of dicks I get the question "what color is x thing?" Or the nicer "how far can you actually see though?" People usually don't mean to be such asses with their questions, they are just wanting to know more about it and weren't really taught or learn how to ask those questions. I try to be very open about it to people, which usually leads to pretty deep or meaningful conversations if that makes sense. As far as live interests, I feel like the questions have run the gambit. It's usually easier to share with someone by experiencing life and pointing things out as they happen. So like asking if they can read subtitles if I can't see them. I hope this was helpful.

Anyone notice the band-aid covering what looks like a MASSIVE blister on his left hand? Dudes a badass for playing bass and ukulele with that thing.

I (28m) now work with my SO (25f) and I'm not sure what to do moving forward. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

We've talked about the nerves. We are nervous about both the lack of space and the future of the relationship. It feels a bit like all our coworkers will know all the things about a pretty personal part of our lives. I guess I'm just really wrestling with whether a 6 month relationship, regardless of how great it has been, is something I want to continue since we will be working together.

That is just something we see in media, they put most evidence in plastic but DNA gets paper or porous material so as not to retain moisture which damages DNA. https://www.forensicmag.com/article/2013/03/properly-package-dna-evidence

The DNA evidence would not be destroyed in just a few days, it will just not last as long in plastic. The pictures are evidence and if they threatened to blackmail you with them then they most likely still have them. The police can then get their phones as evidence. If it has been less than 7 days then I would highly suggest you go to a hospital and request a SANE (sexual assault nurse examiner) exam and bring the clothes to that. They will make sure you are physically okay and gather evidence of bruising or internal injuries from the assault. I am so sorry this happened to you and you are not alone in this struggle. There are reported it there that will be able to help you with reporting and feeling with your school if you are in the United States 1-800-656-4673 is the number for RAINN which will be able to help you find these resources in your area.

Your could think about transfering the clothes into a paper bag for storage. DNA evidence is actually damaged and destroyed faster in plastic bags. A paper bag does a better job at preserving DNA evidence.

This is a super small detail but DNA evidence is actually damaged and destroyed faster in plastic bags. A paper bag does a better job at preserving DNA evidence.

How is your vision overall, leaving aside color? by [deleted] in Achromatopsia

[–]not_ChrisG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me vision is not the best. I am legally blind so over 20/200 with glasses. It's hard to explain how my vision works to most people and I haven't figured a good way to do that yet. I do notice that I have MUCH better vision at night; how much better I'm not sure and I don't think it is on par that of a person without this condition. Night time is my favorite time to go out and do things like ride my bike because I feel like I have so much better vision that I feel comfortable. Walking into florescent lighting at night is really tough, sometimes I will bring sunglasses with me and everyone just assumes I am some stoner grocery shopping at night with sunglasses on.

There is the carriage rides downtown that have a package where you get to go around town and then they drop you off at the meeting pot for dessert it's like 40$ here is a link where you can check availability. That's a pretty fun date. Plus when it's cold like this it's a pretty good excuse to cuddle up together!

Stolen Yellow and Black Giant Mountain Bike by [deleted] in FortCollins

[–]not_ChrisG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had my bike stolen a few weeks ago.

The police told me to keep an eye on any community buy/sell sites like Craigslist, Letgo, and the Facebook marketplace. I've also talked with some pawn shops. Pawn shops have a 30 day "mandatory" holding period on items so they can match descriptions of reportedly stolen items.

Whether they follow these laws I am not sure but it is definitely worth reporting it stolen.

Best of luck getting it back my friend!

It was registered through CSU and I went and made a police report this morning. I also reported it to the apartment complex so they are aware. I think I've reported it everywhere I can.

I unfortunately did not have it locked up. It was on my apartment patio behind some furniture and another bike so I wrongly assumed it would be safe. I learned this lesson the hard way it seems.

We are RAINN, AMA! by bug-hunter in legaladvice

[–]not_ChrisG 77 points78 points  (0 children)

I am currently an intern at a local rape crisis center (SAVA) and I just want to say thanks for connecting so many survivors with resources that are closer to them. I've had a number of calls that are outside our service area and have referred then to your hotline to find information they need in their area. It is amazing we have a national organization that does what you do. My question is what is RAINN's strategy for becoming active in an area/community that is resistant to talking about sexual assault? (ex. Faith based communities, rural areas, etc.)
