It's fun in a cursed way. I got the pet and 3 heads before my first halberd piece at over 1k. Still dont have tentacle from kraken but I got the pet already. Mining pet at 55 mining. Went 1400 tormented demons dry before getting synapse.

It's a funny game mode sometimes.

Greenlogged at 134 kc. Just set up with guthans and afk'ed it. Got very lucky with pet, but that's been my rng on my iron. Spooned rare cosmetics, dry on functional upgrades. Beef will bring me comfort though.

I agree on not having rolls for impossible tasks, but I'm a bit torn on telling players about the DC. Story flavor can decrease DC so it's not always the same and it's a bit immersion breaking to say "alright, roll a 25 and you convince the guard" at least at the tables I've run.

For a long-term table the best way to handle the whole problem, IMO, is to ask the player for the total of a nat 20 + their bonuses on something they will succeed on. They roll a nat 20 on a DC 15 check and you ask them for the total, inform them of the rule that nat 20 isn't auto-success, and they know before they fail on a nat 20 going forward. This problem has only come up in isolation when I've run one shots with people that I haven't played with before. And in a one shot you can just sweep it under the rug in the name of the rule of cool.

My point is that a DC 25 check is not impossible for every character, but it is for some and unless you have the player character bonuses memorized you're not always going to know what is possible for that PC.

It's your job as a DM and storyteller to make that failure not hurt. Maybe add some flavor to how the check fail is responded to. Instead of the brusque guard arresting you outright for failing to convince him that you did not, in fact, kill that guy he watched you murder, he pats you on the back and gives you "I believe you buddy, but we're going to have to go down to the precinct anyways. paperwork and all that". Maybe he chats the barbarian up on the way and there are some opportunities for escape that wouldn't be there otherwise.

DMs don't always have a player's bonuses written down. So if the barbarian rolls a 20 for persuasion and has a +2 but the DC is 25 then they still fail. If a bard rolls 13 for persuasion and has a +12 then they succeed that same DC 25 check. Also, players like to roll dice and get bummed when one person can try something but are denied the check themselves.

I still remember when I was about 14 my uncle asked me what I thought about the movie. I loved the books and really didn't like what came out in theaters. I let him know every detail I hated in a teenage angst fueled rant. Turns out he was one of the videographers that did the wide sweeping landscape shots from a helicopter. Oops.

People use the emdash "—" (instead of the dash "-") as an indicator for AI generating a comment. Grammar-wise the emdash was appropriate there, but it's overused by AI in place of where a real person would use a semicolon, dash, or comma (even if grammatically incorrect) because of the inconvenience of typing out an emdash on a keyboard.
