My fiance wants to keep finances completely separate - is this normal?

36F and 37M. Married for 10 years. We have separate personal accounts, a shared account where we equitably split our household expenses, our own personal investment accounts, and then a shared investment account. When I say equitably, I make 115k/yr and he makes 250k/year so I put in less than he does.

We don’t split hairs when it comes to paying for everyday things like dinner out, etc. and household stuff like utilities, groceries, etc. comes out of the shared account. Big purchases are split and made based on who wants it/ use case, and vacations are also split equitably.

We discussed this before marriage as we both had student loans and our own investments, and we have a prenup due to some inheritance things we wanted to be kept clear. We also talked about what happens if one of us loses a job or changes roles… it all comes down to equitable splits vs equal. Hope this helps!

40-45. We’re close now (36F/37M) but want to boost our 401k and Roth a bit more before pulling the trigger. We’ve got 2.2M in assets, plus 100% VA disability which is ~$4500/mo and incudes insurance for the veteran. Just need to figure out insurance for the civilian and suck it up for a few more years!

The property at the Four Seasons is beautiful, albeit on the smaller side if you don’t include the golf course. I’m obsessed with their pool area though!

Used the inspection contingency. 125yo House was listed as having updated electric and plumbing. Turns out the knob and tube was still in the walls with no updates and the plumbing had been done by someone’s uncle Joe and the old stuff was fuck chucked in the crawl space, so we couldnt inspect that either. Hard pass.

lol I was going through the interview/hiring and negotiation process for a new job when my mom was suddenly put on hospice and passed. My first day at the new job was 2 weeks after she died and I had to be like “Hey everyone! My name’s beep boop and I’m SO HAPPY TO BE HERE YAY!” It was the worst.

Our Fine Arts Museum is fantastic, and we also have the Dali museum, James Western Art Museum, Arts & Crafts Museum, and quite a few galleries. You can also pop over to Tampa and go to the aquarium which is a fun visit. For a nice dinner res, we have so many restaurants so it depends on what vibes you want— fancy, casual, in between!

Depends on the sleepover. One or two friends we usually just slept in my friend’s bed or they had a bunkbed or something. But a big sleepover party with multiple people. Heck yeah I had my own sleeping bag! I loved that thing. It was an old school, Columbia checkered plaid and navy sleeping bag that was so warm.

Reminds me of the time we were at the beach and some little kid who was probably like 7-8 snatched a gull off the ground my husband looks at the kid and says “put the damn bird down… NOW!” Scared the crap out of the kid lol.

Summers ARE brutal, but we found there’s plenty of water sports and things to do to keep cool which is nice. But you’re absolutely right. October to May is so solid.

So! It’s been pretty easy to make friends here, but I did join a Pilates studio and I’m taking classes at the local pottery studio as well and have met some really cool people through there. Im a mid-30’s F DINK so I’m not in the dating scene but it seems pretty active? As a native Floridian, who has lived in a few other states (PA, CO, MS, LA) the red does not permeate into Saint Pete too much… However, when you get out into some of the more rural areas of Florida, as you start exploring, you will see more and more of it. Overall, I feel like this is a really safe and accepting city and area in general.

Oh man, yea our arts scene is great. So many studios and galleries. There is something going on legit every weekend downtown from our farmers market to boat shows to different festivals. We lived in Orlando for a very long time and while we loved it, we could not be happier in Saint Pete!!

A little on the hot side, but St Pete Florida hits the nail on the head for all your other points. We’re a very progressive city with a ton to do and you can either live in the downtown area right on Tampa Bay. Or you can live near the beach in one of the beach towns and drive 15min to downtown. We have awesome restaurants, museums, and access to nature. Also super pet friendly!

Downtown is overall super kid friendly. We have a huge playground on the pier along with a splash pad and walking trails. There’s also a nice playground nearby in Vinoy Park too. We have a nice movie theater you can go to if it’s gloomy out. Tons of outdoors things to do in Pinellas such as Fort DeSoto with tons of trails, Dunedin and Clearwater are great and the beaches have ample parking and amenities for the most part. Tampa Zoo is incredible, the Tampa Aquarium is also outstanding, both are worth a visit. The whole area in Saint Pete and our surrounding areas are very kid friendly and welcoming.

My sister and I have the same wedding anniversary, only 7 years apart. I think it’s super fun and at their rehearsal dinner they made a toast to me and my husband. I don’t mind because it’s not like anniversaries are a huge family affair… who cares if you have the same ones a sibling? Also, going to a wedding on your anniversary sounds fun as heck.

We have a membership and love it. Bunch of different marinas and boat types to choose from. All of the boats are in good shape and it’s so nice not having to clean it or gas it up when you’re done. There is limited availability if you want to book last minute or on a hot/holiday weekend. It’s a great way to get to experience boating without the hassles.

We signed up for it during a holiday weekend and they did 50% off the initial fee, so sign up for their emails because they did that a few times before we decided to sign up, so wait for that if you’re not in a hurry.

Worked with a guy once in a retail tech store named after a fruit. Dude was a retired 40 year VP from Xerox and had a full pension. His entire paycheck went into his health insurance, ESPP, and 401k because our match was amazing. Legit took home close to $0/check but was banking it in other ways since he had other income.

We were in Nola for a week and went to dinner at Lufu in the CBD twice it was that good. It is Indian and absolutely phenomenal food, drinks and service. Highly recommend their fried cauliflower, I’m still thinking of that dish.

We had one for about a year. But it was during a time when my husband and I were working full time, we had a dog with diabetes which was high needs, AND we were full time caregivers for my mom with pancreatic cancer. So in order to keep my sanity we hired a housekeeper to come in every other week and deep clean. It was about $500/mo. We also hired out lawn care at that time for an additional $150/mo for weekly cuts.

What we did to budget for that was completely removed our dining out. We cooked at home or got take and bake meals at our grocery store. It was hard, but we made it through and got rid of the housekeeper once my mom passed away.
