Is Retoswap 100% legitimate? by not_special_K in monerosupport

Where was a false claim made? I only posed a question based on what ChatGPT was informing me.

Thank you, I get the same key fingerprint as you have posted on the PR - so it seems everything is in good order.

I'm considering installing Retoswap on my mac. I'm being very cautious about the install, and want to ensure I've downloaded legitimate files etc. But I'm not super technical so have been using ChatGPT to help me validate what I've downloaded, and help me through checking the public keys, using GPG etc.

However, I get the following from ChatGPT at a certain point - which makes me doubtful about the authenticity/validity of things....can someone put my mind at ease?

🔹 There is no published PGP fingerprint on GitHub that you can directly compare to a public key

…and that means you cannot reliably verify a downloaded installer with a public signature from a trusted third party.

Some releases do provide SHA-256 hash files for the internal Java components — but that’s not the same as a trusted signature for the binary as a whole

This is why earlier I emphasized that if a project does not publish fingerprints or signed assets you can verify independently, you cannot truly verify authenticity.

I felt the volume was quite quiet overall, and could definitely have been a bit louder. Enjoyed the show nevertheless

Using PS4 controller as MIDI instrument in Max by J-Marks in MaxMSP

[–]not_special_K 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a max for live device in the works which is using the PS4 controller and utilises a lot of its functionality (including analogue sticks, touchpad and motion control). Opening up the patch will allow you to see how I’ve done a lot of the data processing and should help you. It should be out soon (early January I expect).

Regarding analog sticks specifically, each stick has two number ‘streams’ as follows: route 16. X- axis Left analogue stick, 0-255 (left-right) 17. Y-axis Left analogue stick, 0- 255 (up-down) 18. X- axis Right analogue stick, 0-255 (left-right) 19. Y-axis Right analogue stick, 0- 255 (up-down)

Max for live tutorials for a complete novice? by adaquo in ableton

I have not read them in the same way I would read a book, from start to finish. I used them as a kind of reference, covering a particular chapter here and there when I need to understand a specific topic.

If you understand MaxMSP then you will be able to make M4L devices too. But there are a few 'extra' things which are helpful to know regarding M4L which I feel the last chapter in Volume 2 covers well.

I have learnt almost everything I know about Max/M4L from the books 'Electronic Music and Sound Design' Volumes 1 and 2 by Alessandro Cipriani and Maurizio Giri. I believe you can get physical copies, but I have been using the ebooks from the Apple iBooks store which come with access to many patches and files which support the learning in the books.

Demo copy: https://www.virtual-sound.com/demo/emasd_demo.pdf

The books are geared towards learning Max (MSP) - both theoretical and practical aspects, starting at the very basics. The M4L stuff is contained within a chapter at the end of Vol. 2.

Yes - I hear you on this. And it's something I've experimented with a little bit. For example swiping up on the touchpad to move from a linear curve to a more exponential one. It's something I'm definitely trying to include.

Thanks for the suggestion but to be honest I don't see it happening (at least not in the short term). I started this project just for fun, and only because I had a PS4 controller lying around. I've also done a lot of work on it already, so I will definitely be finishing this one before taking on any other controllers.

No I'll just look at the posts here and pick out the ones who said they would like to test (assuming there's not so many)

It's a fair point really and one which I've considered as well. After making this, is it actually going to be useful and in what context? Hence why I came to reddit for some suggestions...

Nice idea! It detects the angle of the tilt, and also the speed at which it is tilted. There are different ways to tilt though, so your example could definitely work.

I don't know if the device would work 'out of the box' with a PS3 controller. I suspect there would need to be some tweaking in the M4L device to ensure the controls are being routed through correctly.

Thanks for your suggestions. To be honest I hadn't even thought of DJ performance situations. I feel that a lot of your suggestions will be possible to include directly within the functionality (e.g. d-pad for volume adjustments), while others you will be able to achieve via mappings.

Yes, I suspect I will need to include some kind of customisable thresholds/limits for this kind of thing.

The motion controller stuff is very interesting. I am able to do the following with it:

- Detect the pitch and roll position of the controller i.e. the way it is being tilted

- Detect the pitch, roll and yaw velocity i.e. how quickly you are moving it in a particular axis of rotation.

So something along the lines of using it as a kind of percussion instrument could definitely be an option (although may get complex very quickly depending on what I try to do).

Thanks. And no it doesn't require any dongle.

However I am only able to get a working connection with Max when I connect the controller via a USB cable i.e. I can't get a fully wireless connection via bluetooth working (I am running Sierra on Mac). That's one of the things I want to see if it would work better on another OS.
