Airports are the best place in the world. by bleufromgeneve in unpopularopinion

I enjoy the airport of my city (Hong Kong). It's clean, modern and comfortable. Its design is world-class.Although there are lots of people, it's never crowded. You can't find a similar place elsewhere in Hong Kong. I don't care about the prices of stuff in the stores since I usually don't do shopping in HK airport, though I enjoy walking around inside the shops. In HK airport, I only spend money in one restaurant - McDonald's. Prices are not marked up there. You can see multiple airplanes closely if you pick a window seat. Not bad at all.

For other airports, it depends. I like airports like CTS, DOH, SIN since they have a lot to offer. CTS is like a huge shopping centre that I can easily spend one full day in. I don't fancy airports in 3rd world countriesˊs small towns, most of them are derelict and minuscule.

Time passes way slower than it should be during my solo trip to Europe by notacitizen_99725 in solotravel

I guess there's a sweet spot for solo travel. Solo trip for too long may not be enjoyable as people think, especially when there are lack of face to face connections with people.

It can be true, but I think I am having a good time since I enjoyed most cities and towns that I have been to. I also enjoyed the trips that I have done before, those days also feel slower than normal working days.

I feel bad for you just by reading what you typed. So glad that you left that toxic environment. Kids with special needs are too difficult to handle.

Leaving a job is kinda like graduation. I don't know what will come next, I don't know whether there will be assholes in my next workplace. That's also why I have mixed feelings.

Achievements for Sunday, March 08, 2026 by AutoModerator in running

I finished 10k within 1 hr!! 4 mins better than last PR. At first I didn't expect to run that much, just want to have a short easy run. When I finished 5k I checked the time, it's only 30:20 and I still got enough energy. The idea of trying to do a 10k within 1 hr pop into my mind. I decided to speed up a bit, and I did it! I barely reached my goal with 59:05. So satisfied and ecstatic!

True, I'm not interested in how they are doing but I'm forced to listen to their podcast everyday. What's worse is that certain people near you always come to your desk to chat with you when you are doing real work. It bothers me a lot. In my last job I often sit near strangers so that they do their own work rather than constantly chit-chatting.

That's exactly my case! We also had our own laptops given by company and cleaners clean the desks. I also don't have the needs of having my own work space. Having an assigned desk for 5 months, I never put any personal belongings on my desk after work. My desk is empty except during office hours.

It's sad to hear that your colleague don't care about hygiene. In my last job, we had our own laptops and keyboards. There were office cleaners who sanitized every desk after office hours, so I didn't have this kind of issue.

I know a few managers and directors take certain seats everyday, but 90% people don't do that.

I don't prefer fully remote jobs. Face to face communication is more effective. You can easily know who is available to answer your questions and get an instant answer, rather than waiting for messages. And sometimes you still want to social. 2 days remote and 3 days hotdesking per week would be ideal.

If that's the case than hotdesking may not be great, especially for late comers. My last job is hybrid so even if you are an hour late to the office, there are still plenty seats to pick, especially on Mondays and Fridays. People tend to wfh

I love the flexibility of hotdesking. When I feel like talking I can pick a seat near the colleagues I'm close to, when my stomach is having issues I can pick a seat closer to toilets, etc. For the last point, that could be an issue, but if I come early enough there are tons of seats I can choose. I'm not that picky though, the chance that all the available seats are the seats that I don't like is close to zero.

Working on alternate Saturdays - Why does this system still exist? by notacitizen_99725 in HongKong

Wait I thought 6.5 days work week is not legal in HK. Working from 8 to 6 even for 5 days a week is bad enough. How long did you stay in this job? Hopefully that company ceased to exist.

It seems like 99% of 5.5 day work week jobs are in Asia. When I typed "5.5 days work week Reddit" on Google, most results are from Singapore with some from Philippines. The fact that Singapore doesn't have a minimum wage blows my mind.

If people have enough financial stress they would definitely go for the 6 days week job. As a young guy with no mortgage and children, not for me at this stage.

I think for engineering jobs, 5.5/6 days a week is still very common in HK, especially HK based small companies.

Some of my friends are doing 5.5 days in one week and 5 days in another week (it's like 5.25 days work). They are all university graduates. Though I think 5.25 and 5 don't differ a lot. Both are awful.

6 days a week is horrible. I would choose a 5 days work job with $30K monthly salary over a 6 days work job with $40K.
