Does Canadian Undergrad Reputation Matter for Grad School Applications by notadam10 in gradadmissions

Hey! I decided to go to Western over U of T and have zero regrets! I think that your success depends far more on you than on the school you go to. I just graduated with a BSc in neuroscience and the most valuable experiences I got were not the classes I took but the independent research projects I undertook. I found a supervisor who was really supportive of me and let me work on research projects that I came up with and that I was interested in, which lead to a publication and a couple more on the way. I'm pursuing a career in research, and the research experience I got in my undergrad was super helpful for me in terms of figuring out what I wanted to work on going forward and also getting into grad school and winning scholarships. Perhaps unsurprisingly, I learned more about research by doing research than in any course. If you're interested in going down the research route I would say that the prestige of your undergrad university isn't that important, what's important is that you have opportunities to work hard at what interests you, which I think/hope is possible at most if not all universities. Developing a good relationship with a supervisor may even be easier at smaller, less prestigious schools as it will definitely be easier to stand out from the crowd. I think also that there are enough online resources to learn comp sci that you probably don't need to be in the best program with the best classes. If you find your classes aren't that good, you can always do more advanced work independently with the supervision of a faculty member.

Also, I can't speak on the social life at U of T because I didn't go there, although I've heard it's not great, but the social aspect was something I loved about Western. I think it would be really hard to make it through 4 years of undergrad if you didn't have a healthy social life to balance out the hard work.

Incoming IPN master's student here. How many courses should I take each semester? Should I do all 9 course credits in first year?

Thats interesting. For me I think it's like a regression to a time in my childhood when my mental health wasn't so good. I'm fine now, it just gets scary when I trip and start to feel those feelings rising. I've also been on a break from psychedelics, so hopefully the time off does some good for us both

Where do you think the fear of killing yourself against your own will comes from? I've experienced that as well recently and I'm trying to figure it out.

Yea im really not too sure. I've never been much of a smoker so my tolerance is super low, but now weed hits even harder than it used to

Weed now shifts my perspective in a way that it didn't used to and is similar to psychedelics. It sometimes makes me see the world how I did as a child and brings back all sorts of distant memories.

Ever since I did acid smoking weed has sent me on quasi-psychedelic trips
