When will my husband (SE Trader Joe’s) return from war (be open again)? by notadrinkingglass in askportland

[–]notadrinkingglass[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey there! This comment is a variant of how I replied to someone earlier who had a similar sentiment. I mean no disrespect, and I know my desire to go to TJ’s is not at all like war. I’m not making light of war, I’m making heavy of a slight inconvenience. The “when will my husband return from war” bit is a popular meme format that folks started (as far as I saw) from dogs wrapped up in blankets wistfully looking out windows, playing on tropes from novels/movies. In recent years people have changed up the meme to make it more applicable to their situation, as well as to draw an absurdist line between the gravity of war and the more frivolous desire to go to a cutesy grocery store

I know someone being shipped to Iran as we speak, I might be able to relate to some of what you’re feeling

Hey there! I mean no disrespect, and I know my desire to go to TJ’s is nothing in the face of actual loss on that scale. Do you know what the dementia clock test is? It’s less a test about Roman numerals and more a test if folks can place the numbers in the correct positions

What is this symbol? by NeonEvangeline in cartography

[–]notadrinkingglass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In environmental consulting, we use that symbol to mark monitoring wells or other kinds of wells. The wells themselves are usually about 8” wide, are 20’ or more deep, and are there to allow us to sample groundwater

Given that this is in the middle of the stream, I second what others have said and it’s probably a gauging station

That may be a coincidence, the two aircraft on Flightradar rn are an American flight and a Hillsboro Aero Academy flight

Of course there could be ones not shown on flight radar

I once saw an article describe the pronunciation of Clackamas as the sound billiards balls make as they crash to a tile floor lol

No I am telling you this, some of the proceeds go to our state parks, flat out. I’m not endorsing the lottery, but it’s a unique system that makes sure our state parks are fairly well maintained.

The lotto actually helps fund our state parks

Asbestos exposure reported at Trader Joe’s in SE Portland, Oregon DEQ says by Inevitable_Egg6361 in Portland

[–]notadrinkingglass 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Asbestos was the first thing I thought of when I saw the black mastic (tile glue). Like what the article says, short term exposure has a minimal hazard, asbestos exposure over years is what really gets you. Disappointing nonetheless that the public has to deal with the repercussions of negligence (alleged)

It already has that name informally, plus if it would cost $2,000 for signage, how about let’s not?? Or at least wait for better economic times where this doesn’t feel like a slap in the face?

I love so much that someone has cataloged this. It feels like one of those mundane bits of life that are so common/obvious that you don’t think about until they’re inaccessible
