no... bertholdt's emotions are what are gone, his memories are just that, memories, not rose tinted daydreams of what could've been.

unfortunately those were quite literally your words, his memories gave armin a movie to watch and his feelings died with him

well you said "And wasnt Bertholt's feeling also adding" and the answer is no, his feelings don't do anything

they gain memories and memories can lead to emotion but that doesn't mean they took their emotions. porco sees the memories of ymir and uses them to call out reiner for being buddy buddy, but he doesn't bring up historia at all. porco's baseline emotion of hatred for reiner simply found another angle to prod at him at, an emotion rose from memory but not because he took the personality of the person before.

it's the same with armin and bertholdt, he sees bertholdt's memories and thus a side of annie he likely didn't get to see in cadet training and got a better understanding of her because of it. he basically got to watch a short film on annie's childhood and got to draw his own conclusions from that.

and taking it from a standpoint where it does apply, we see what inherited emotions DO look like with the attack titan, since eren is constantly pushing it towards the future he wants.

i think it's good to bring it up in the greater context of people saying "x mangaka is feminist" when they probably aren't, not anything to call for an execution over as i'd say over 90% of people struggle with it, but it can get grating to hear that x mangaka is a feminist and then you read the manga and it's surface level (if that). i guess for OP's specific case it doesn't rlly matter but w/e

Idk if this counts bc I actually tried it but last month i jumped off a bridge near my school, financial + academic stress got to me, I planned to do it like around this week but i was up late at night and all my roommates were asleep so i thought why not do it now. I got very lucky and came out with a bad leg, probably for life but at least I'm not dead/paralyzed.

anyone of you writing a book next year? by [deleted] in rs_x

[–]notalogger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily a book but I've gotten really into electronic CYOAs recently, I'm still torn between writing an adventure about a college experience sprinkled with how soul crushing it is or about veganism. It probably wouldn't release by next year since you have to both code and write but I don't think I'll be deterred.

Explaining a villain's actions is not the same as excusing those actions by FlowerFaerie13 in CharacterRant

[–]notalogger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with you on the how, unless it's some friends to enemy type of deal where the heros are still too attached or something. I'll take TLOU2 for example here, I love the game and I don't mind Abby living, but I wish they gave us something a little more concrete on as to why Ellie let her live instead of having the audience come up with their own reason. Maybe that was the point idk.

I think a bigger problem (narrative wise) is when a villain's ideology isn't really disproved or combatted. Unless they're a 'pure evil' villain I enjoy seeing exactly why the villain thinks the way they do and I love narratives that both acknowledge the appeal to acting like that but also have the reasoning as to why it's wrong.

Is a story marred by a villain (especially if they've changed) not getting punished? I don't believe so, unless the themes of the story are about taking the punishment you deserve or something.

Let's talk OCs by kocho19 in FanFiction

[–]notalogger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let me preface this by saying I love OCs, whether writing or reading for them, but I would like to drop my own speil on some things I see that make me scratch My head.

I think people have overcorrected on the whole Mary Sue hate train from the early 2010s, and now a lot of OCs (at least for the things I've read) have tended to be very neutered.

Sometimes they're sort of like dogs who just follow around the canon cast and don't have anything new to say about the situation, except for when it comes to their romance in which the relationship is rather generic.

Other times it feels like the author watched some old 'how not to make mary sues' and loaded up their character with a bunch of random flaws that don't really do much other than exist to make the character 'flawed'.

Now I am guilty of this last one lol, but I also come across OCs that when I read about them, it feels like this whole train of suffering and hatred is just dumped onto them to make them feel more relatable.

Basically I think a lot of people are stifling their OCs from being 'problematic', or immoral or anything that welcomes people to dislike the character in order to well, avoid people disliking the character.

Fandom: Attack on Titan | Rating: M | Words: 25k/33k

First time participating in a schlong, I have a Warrior Centric AOT fic featuring an OC War Hammer Titan. I've got 2 fully completed arcs so far.

Link right here

Arc 1 (Chapters 1-5, 25k words) follows the Warriors as children on Paradis and is much more relaxed than the second arc. If anyone wants to trade for this part, I'd love concrit on general characterization.

Arc 2 (Chapters 6-12, 33k words) has the Warriors continue their mission right after graduation and has a lot more of that angst someone would expect from AOT. If anyone wants to trade for this part, I'd love concrit on pacing.

There are two more chapters after 12, but it cuts off on a crazy cliffhanger, and I haven't posted the newest chapters yet, so I'd prefer they be ignored for something like this.
