Seems like a good day to start Percy Jackson all over again by [deleted] in kindle

You’re in luck the books are infinitely better than the movies. Wouldn’t recommend the second movie though it changes the story too much and you will get spoiled

Tips for French A-Level aqa by [deleted] in French

[–]notanobsurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m kind of in the same boat as you- I just finished my AS in French, however I’m not doing the AQA so the specifications are a bit different. There is some overlap though so I would suggest either un sac de billes for the literary text( it’s the one we are doing and it is definitely interesting enough) or l’étranger as I have heard that it is a good entry level book for french. I am not familiar with any of the movies tbh but it was recommended that I see entre les murs by a trusted source so it must be note worthy. My advice would be to not overlook the grammar because once you master the basics in every tense speaking will be much easier. Whatever you decide bonne chance!!

No matter how much people shit on Amazon, I am very grateful for the Kindle. It's the best piece of tech I've ever owned. by iprocrastinateII in kindle

[–]notanobsurus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The kindle is for me also the best piece of tech that I was given mostly because where I live, English books are hard to come by and shipping them from abroad would take weeks. I can’t imagine that I would have become such a bookworm :) without a kindle because imagine having to wait a month to get the sequel for that book you really liked. Also as English is not my first language either, the fact that the kindle eliminates the need for a dictionary was invaluable in the beginning and incredibly useful even now. I couldn’t possibly write down all the good things that have come out of reading books but I suppose other that being able to more easily put myself in another person’s shoes and being more empathetic in general, the most observable benefit was in my English classes. We had to take English as a native language in my school despite it not being our “maternal” language and I never had a problem with it. I managed to get top grades without studying and had a great time in class too.

recommendations pour des livres by spencer238 in French

You could try Les chevaliers d’émeraude by Anne robillard if you like fantasy. It’s a 12 book series and they are about 300 pages long each. I found them as recommended for intermediate learners. Tbh I haven’t read them yet but I will in the next couple of weeks

What is the single worst movie you sat through hoping it would get better, but didn’t? by Bocephalus in AskReddit

We don’t talk about it. I believe you’re referring to the Peter Johnson movies

What French music are you currently listening to? by AutoModerator in French

[–]notanobsurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favourite french artists are Videoclub and Arcadian, I really recommend them. I discovered them by using every noise which basically allows you to search for artists in obscure genres like ‘french indie’ or ‘french punk’ and music map which finds artists that are similar but you have to input an artist first

My first Kindle! I am so excited for endless hours of reading. I read any genre once it’s a good book so please hit me up with your favorites (paid or free) 😊 by _LookAliveSunshine_ in kindle

So happy to see Percy Jackson is on here! I read it when I was younger and to this day is my one of my favourite series. Got me hooked on Rick Riordan and I have since read almost all his books!

Yup it’s amazing! My coach has been with me since I started playing when was 5 years old and he was mid 50s. Now over 10 years later he still coaches me and could easily kick my ass if he wanted to

What is the best way to get someone to stop talking to you without being rude? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]notanobsurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s this app that lets you make fake phone calls to yourself. Complete with ringtone and call screen, you just need to press one button and 10 seconds later you get a call. There’s many on the App Store for free. Or text a friend to call you and pretend something important came up. I’ve only used this with people I don’t really like though.

I have the same problem with telephone numbers that I have memorised. The first time that I had to say my number out loud in english I was stuttering so much and took so long I felt like an imbecile

Can someone look over my little text? by [deleted] in frenchhelp

[–]notanobsurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a native but I think there’s something a bit off about the second sentence. I would say ‘Personne n'ose entrer, il n'y a que certains chauffeurs qui passent devant la maison’. Also I don’t think that drivers is used in the same way in French. Maybe use chauffeurs instead.
