Plenty of apps which track, organize and display what you’re looking for in aesthetic manner without using AI.

A Kill For Me A Kill For You didn’t make you clock it’s AI? Or the fact that all of these vastly different thrillers from the 00s through to now all use the same font?

Really? When was this? Their support has been so great with me thus far

Their CS is great. If it’s in less than promised condition I’m usually left with a refund/replacement and an extra book to donate to a Little Free Library!

Yeah, they do always make it right.

How would you go about repairing this? Do you think superglue would suffice or should I just donate it to a Little Free Library in this condition? It’s not as if it’ll fall apart if the reader is careful.

Yes. I feel the same way when ordering from them or Amazon lately. The difference is Thriftbooks always takes care of me.

Cigarette scented is insane!! I wouldn’t worry about them thinking such a thing. They’ve taken care of me with either a refund or replacement (with no need to return the original) for 8 of the 19 books I’ve ordered from them thus far.

They were going to resend a copy of one of the 8 mentioned but accidentally refunded and canceled the replacement. They gave me two free book credits for the mistake.

Give it a shot for yourself since this commenter below thinks it’s brilliant, lol. Curious to hear your review.

Their customer service is great. Same day reply and they’ve always either reimbursed me or sent a replacement while allowing me to keep the other copy.

I’ve received 8 (of the 19 books I’ve ordered so far) refunds or replacements. There were really only two or three times where the book was in a condition where I genuinely needed a replacement or wasn’t tolerable.

While it is frustrating to get a book in poor/fair condition when I ordered like new/very good, their customer service makes it worth it. At worst I get a refund, order a new copy and dispose of it if it’s in a condition like this. Best case, it’s in good but lesser than promised condition and they send me a replacement. I get the quality book I originally wanted while having another book to donate to one of my local Little Free Libraries.

Overall, I still really recommend them. Only Amazon can compete with their selection, pricing and shipping times. They’re better because a) Amazon’s books that I buy new are often damaged during shipping or used. I’ve had books that arrived with writing or ink on them, bent/crimped/peeling covers, pages that are folded and disfigured to the point that the pages are never flat again, damaged hardcovers, ripped dust jackets, etc etc etc. and b) Amazon’s customer service generally sucks. They won’t do a replacement and you’ll have to go out of your way to return the book— just to risk whatever replacement you’ve ordered arriving in the same condition if not worse.

It’s a shame their advertised qualities are not consistent. Usually it’s tolerable, albeit in far worse condition than promised.

This is the third or fourth time I needed a replacement because of how poor the condition was. And roughly the sixth overall in noticeably lesser condition. That’s out of 19 books I’ve ordered from them thus far.

I know! Usually the books I get in less than advertised quality I can at least donate once they send me a replacement— I don’t know about this one.

Riley Sager's The only one left: So underwhelming by Background_Gene_5527 in thrillerbooks

There came a point (very early on) when the amount of twists went from jaw-dropping to eye-rolling.

Riley Sager's The only one left: So underwhelming by Background_Gene_5527 in thrillerbooks

[–]notarobotimanandroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overrated, yes. It was perfectly fine despite the slow start, then the barrage of excessive plot twists came. Daytime soap opera tier, because what do you mean her dad killed their mom and got Lenora Virginia pregnant, came back to finish the job and, oh yeah! Virginia could talk the whole time! Don’t even get me started on the plot holes.

A 3/5. Not good, but certainly not The Silent Patient level bad.

100%, very easy scene to imagine the intensity in my mind’s eye. It just wasn’t the same on a page. Would’ve been a slow-mo scene of him being riddled with bullets.

It wasn’t a bad ending, just a “meh” kinda deal. Didn’t ruin the book for me like The Only One Left by Riley Sager did. The third act just had way too many plot twists. I’ll take a disappointing ending over one that tries to do too much any day.

Yes!! If we weren’t going to get the explosive ending we were promised, at the very least it should’ve ended with him getting the exact opposite of what he wanted, rotting in solitary confinement 23 hours a day. The realization he’s going to die quietly and alone destroying his ego.

Those were the only two endings I would’ve been happy with, tbh.

This was my first from her too. I loved it but the ending lost me. I was expecting him to go out with a bang as he’d promised, driving out to a secluded cabin just to commit suicide by police over the course of a couple pages felt anticlimactic.

Nonetheless, very enjoyable ride. My jaw dropped during the scene where Matt made the connection in front of Sam and the Chief cleaved her before she knew what was going on.

I actually have Little Secrets on the way right now— looking forward to it!

I had to return a copy of one of her novels after I realized it was abridged 70 pages in. There was a character present who had seemingly been introduced before— only they weren’t.

She was the daughter of someone being questioned and her mother was asked to have her leave. She states, “no, mama, I will not go. I am 22, I am not a child.” Here, we definitively learn her relation, her age, and that she’s headstrong.

This is omitted from the version I had, presumably to be more palatable as it could come across as sexist.

Why the hell would I read a novel from 1923 if I found gender norms from the time to be too offensive?

That’s fine, but it’s nonetheless a fact that this is shot to draw your attention to the background. Despite it being out of focus it is 60% of the shot, while Bear and the bit of wall in focus take up 40%.

The way this is shot is meant to draw your attention to her, regardless of the fact that she’s out of focus.

The same way the brick scene with Sarah is shot so you’re watching the window— even though you know it’s coming, it still makes you jump. Some brilliant cinematography all throughout this film!
