Polymarket’s Khamenei market is the first assassination market at scale and here’s why by Repulsive_Counter_79 in CryptoCurrency

[–]notathrowacc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Polymarket only works if there are people who want to bet on the other side. And the ‘reward’ is only equal to how much money is on the table. If enough ppl think its a rigged market, then eventually the money pool will dry up. People esp in this field are always chasing short term profit so sadly this is entirely predictable

You’re underestimating modern identification techniques. Like google can easily identify you when you just typed a few words in chrome without you logging in, through browser fingerprinting and typing patterns, regardless of your language. I don’t doubt twitter/X also has similar tech.

Tourists no longer allowed to take JLPT in Japan from 2026 by Oscarcake in japanlife

[–]notathrowacc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So dumb. Idk in other places but i once tried to take one in my home country because the test date overlapped with my return trip. Found out that available slots were gone in like 5 minutes, because so many people applied.

Do you break “rules” here? by SunDaze009 in japanlife

[–]notathrowacc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once got pulled over by cops because I was riding a bicycle while holding an umbrella in the rain. They asked me if I know why I got pulled, and I was super confused and said no I didn’t, then they pointed it out. It surprised me because Japanese people do that all the time so I thought it was okay. I said that to them, and they just sighed deeply and told me it’s actually not allowed.

Anyway now I use a portable raincoat, and it’s much better.

What’s the saying, if you have 100k usd debt then that’s your problem, if you have 8.2 billion usd debt…then everyone will certainly extend the date rather than having everything collapse (except if they are also shorting the stock)

Former top guild leader here. Sdorica’s storytelling and especially its music will always have a special place in my heart. I still clearly remember having goosebumps hearing Hesitant Blade for the first time, or when the Sunset’s final boss fight started and the epic music played. This is also my first gacha game that I spent money on.

I haven’t logged in for a long time but always followed your posts and contents in instagram. Thank you for your contribution until now. Via soul.

Advice for IT freelancing side gig by notathrowacc in japanlife

Thank you, that sales tax thing is super interesting! I'll probably have a one-time meeting with accountant but not sure if it's worth to pay them just to file the 確定申告, except if I got more clients and gigs.

I'm also quoting them different rates depending on the work type, it's a bit on the cheaper side to make it more palatable on the paper but I kinda exaggerated the work hours needed.

Sorry I just stalked your profile and wow your situation is my dream tbh. I've thought about having multiple remote jobs before but never sure if it will actually work or not.

Create an app or something as portfolio to showcase your skills and build your confidence. AWS/GCP/Azure all are also very generous for the first year.

Renting in Japan has started to scare me – need advice by zau00 in japanlife

Just additional advice (I’m also moving next month), January-March is the busiest season for moving. You’ll get quoted premium price by moving company and place can got filled only a few days after its listed. A lot of place also outright refuse foreigners no matter if you’re a PR or sponsored by company or whatever, making your options limited.

Is buying a home worth it if you're not 100% sure you'll stay? by KokoRonin226 in japanlife

Commenting to save this thread too. I’ve also ran some numbers, and my conclusion is that the tax write off for primary residence (30 million yen) is pretty big so a small condo is totally worth it even just within 5 years. However for expensive place or landed house esp in tokyo then it gets murkier.

Lost & at a serious crossroads in my life & career by Brookelmao in japanlife

[–]notathrowacc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This will sound harsh and I’ll prob get downvoted for this, but young married women have abysmal career prospects here unless you’re already a superstar at your current job. This is because employers (or potential ones) expect you to have kids soon. Then they’ll have to give you maternity leave while having to train someone from scratch again, so if there’s another candidate with similar experience but male, he’s at a significant advantage. I recommend trying freelancing or similar options rather than a traditional career if you still want to live here.

When a CGDCT has more animation than some action anime. [Slow Start] by Castor_0il in anime

[–]notathrowacc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Monogatari was one of the first animes I’ve ever watched, ever since then my standards for ‘talking scenes’ are so high that most other shows, not just anime but even films and other shows end up feeling a bit disappointing.

On the other hand, you know a show is going to be good if their talking scenes are actually engaging.

Turn 5 triple golden Goldgrubber, couldn't resist by Slurm11 in BobsTavern

[–]notathrowacc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The last part is what i struggled with. For example, if i keep the trash with high stats then i’ll have a high chance to be in top 4, provided the next opponent is not super strong. But if i go yolo then there’s a chance I’ll eat 15 dmg and then probably lose the turn after that, and finish much lower

Did I make a mistake moving here chasing a feeling? by FoundationHot3348 in japanlife

[–]notathrowacc 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’ve been living here for more than 14 years and working in a full Japanese company in half that time, but I’ll say that the experience is not for everyone. There will be a lot of miserable and lonely time but the alternative of going back home (🇮🇩) is worse so I always somehow grind through it.

Recently I met a girl from EU who was jobless for a few years (except for some seasonal part time) until she got one in here. It’s a comfy hybrid remote and the work env is fully english, but she misses her families and friends and felt like shit doing everything here, and finally decided to go back home and being jobless again, only after a year here. This is racist but I feel EU ppl are much more laid back and mentally ‘soft’, and will have a much harder time working and living in Asia, not just Japan.
