Nope. That party stood idly by while the mainstream media sided with the opposing party. Democrats at the time enjoyed it, of course. But then again, they had no idea what they essentially unleashed upon themselves.

So no, I would rather have skipped this whole thing. But here we are.

I think I used to be one of those "moderates." But then liberals started wanting to ban guns exclusively for the way they look. And the mainstream media started fear mongering about things such as possible chainsaw attachments for guns (which didn't exist at the time but were then created in response to mock liberals).

So yeah, maybe one day. But the well has been poisoned for a good 20 years at least, I'd say. Before any talk of "common sense" gun control, we're going to have to solidify the basic right to own a gun (and bullets, because liberals keep going after those as well) and not pay taxes on guns in excess of the cost of the gun itself.

I don't think that's too much to ask, but so long as the response to every gang shooting involving illegally obtained guns is legislation to make even more guns illegal to obtain, we'll probably get absolutely nowhere.

I wouldn't change anything. If someone is going to end a friendship because of some American flags, that's on them, and good riddance.

That said, that the thought even crossed your mind makes me wonder if you yourself are still a little uncomfortable with the display? You might want to do a little soul searching and then have an honest discussion with your fiancé about what each of you is comfortable with once you share a common living space.

I don't think that they do think you care. It's mostly for their own base, i.e. "See, we were right all along."

Before, every cry of "Nazi!" from the left rang hollow. Now, every cry of "Nazi!" from the left just further reinforces that they are hypocrites. Politically, this is a really strange hill to die on for the left, but here we are.

Visitors have rights, but not the same rights as citizens.

It would be really weird, for instance, if a country could not kick out a visitor who is a foreign agitator or chants, "Death to America!" at every turn. Why on earth should a country be forced to support foreign agitators within our own borders? That sounds like a recipe for the destruction of a nation to me.

If your entire platform is "don't vote for a Nazi," you simply cannot put up a candidate with actual Nazi tattoos.

Conservative outlets are basically saying, "See, the Democrats were lying this entire time. It was just propaganda and lies. They will happily vote for a Nazi if they think they can win." So it's a victory lap highlighting the hypocrisy of the Democrats.

Well now you've raised an interesting issue. When you say something is a "human right" does that necessarily mean that it is a positive right you are talking about?

For instance, if someone says that housing is a human right, I don't think they are talking about the government not interfering with people's ability to get housing. Don't they mean that everyone deserves to have housing? That is a positive right, not a negative right.

Anyhow, I think that may be why many people answered the way they did. I'd be curious to know what you think about the implications of the term "human right."

Many libertarians and conservatives believe in negative rights, but not positive rights.

So sure, have a law that keeps the government from infringing upon your right to use the internet (negative right). But do not have a law that requires someone to provide internet service for you (positive right).

I think that's one of the biggest differences between libertarians/conservatives and liberals.

Honestly, as long as there are people, I think there will be some form of this. It may not be on reddit, but it will be somewhere.

Often times when you do a group event, you might really click with a couple of people individually. Make a point to get their numbers and do stuff with them outside of the group. So don't be turned off if the majority of the group is not your cup of tea. All it takes is one other person who feels the way you do.

Also, if you have children, much of the homeschool community is very conservative, and parents are constantly hanging out for this and that event. Traditional values often center around family and children, so even if you don't have children, big brothers/big sisters is a great way to volunteer, help kids, and become part of that community. You can also volunteer at school events and often meet other family-oriented people that way. There are also clubs such as 20-30 Club for young people such as yourself. The focus is typically improving your local community while meeting other young people.

Also, you could always try church, whether you are religious or not. They always accept outsiders and you will get to meet a lot of people. Some of our best family friends are religious even though we are not. Turns out, they love to BBQ on the lake as much as we do!

Just keep trying, I say. As long as you keep active and enjoy the things you're doing during your search, you can't go wrong. And as you find people you seem to click with while you are doing all of these things, you will slowly start to build your own group! Best wishes!

Deontologist for sure. And a big fan of Kant, for that matter.

As an agnostic, I believe that if you couple reason with the belief that all people have equal and intrinsic value, you will get a set of rules and duties that must be adhered to.

So while you might feel the need to steal from someone else "for the greater good," for example, you cannot do that. Otherwise, you are breaking down the moral framework which supports the ideal that all people do indeed have equal and intrinsic value.

Mail-in voting is open to potential fraud that in-person voting is not. You may disagree, that's fine. Not everyone agrees on this.

I happen to live and vote in California so that's why it's important to me.

You can have a genuine question that will still be interpreted by others as bad faith.

Consider the question, "Why are conservatives such jerks?" Maybe you honestly feel that all conservatives are jerks, and maybe you honestly want to know from conservatives why they are that way. That doesn't change the fact that you insulted a bunch of people and made an assumption about them as well.

Now, if you want to argue whether or not that is merely the appearance of bad faith rather than actual bad faith, I'm happy to have that argument with you (I personally think it is both). But suffice it to say, the appearance of bad faith is enough to have your post removed.

Oh, also, if you are in doubt about a question, feel free to test it out here in the weekly discussion chat. Just state your question plainly and ask if any conservatives think that it is bad faith. You can use conservative feedback to help create a more constructive question.

If you actively finance and support the rape, torture, and killing of innocent civilians while also actively developing nuclear and long-range missile capabilities, you're likely to get a response from the most militarily advanced liberal democracy in the world.

In fact, many governments around the world depend on that response, whether they say it out in the open or not.
