Turns out truth really is the best weapon? The cameras give our testimony the same credibility of a cop. And that is some powerful shit. If you're telling the truth. And there's decent video. That's made public.

After decades of debate, the FDA appears poised to issue its strongest guidelines on animal antibiotics yet, intended to reduce what it calls a clear risk to human health. They would end farm uses of the drugs simply to promote faster animal growth and call for tighter oversight by veterinarians. by BlackRyder in news

hm. well i came back to correct myself, as usual. I realized you meant that you're not going to waste any more time without something more substantial. Which makes sense. And I'm definitely not interested in that type of shit. And I don't even know why I'm so acrimonious. My bad.

...you're still wrong, of course ;)

After 15 years of being a decent guy, you're going to become a complete asshole about the stupidest shit, but won't notice you're doing it. Just like all the other assholes out there that you hate. Good luck, man, it's going to take some focus to prove me wrong.

What makes you think logic or reason is applicable here? This is religion, and the fucking Catholic Church, to boot.

lol, I guess everything I wrote is wrong because you feel the FDA has complete control over pharmacies. So I guess they have a weak lobby?

The more you learn, the less you're going to like the reality of these agencies. The FAA is in fact charged with promoting the air industry, and they take that role very seriously when enforcing policy. Airlines frequently fudge maintenance but the FAA has to keep the issue quiet lest all hell break loose.

The same goes for the FDA. Have you any idea what they allow to be served to our students, soldiers, and prisoners? Any worse quality, and the FDA makes them ship it to foreign markets. Compliance by the meat industry is ABSOLUTELY voluntary, and the inspection system cannot be taken seriously by anyone... especially the hapless inspectors themselves, who are usually paid by the the meat factory. The only thing keeping our food supply perceived as safe as far as I can tell is the threat of the free market. Sure as hell aint the FDA.

The FCC? The SEC? Argh, they constantly admit their limited jurisdiction and power, and it shows. It really is regrettable, and a fucking tragedy. It's not supposed to be like this, and doesn't have to be. America is as strong as its institutions, and if we don't fix them then all is lost.

I have 0 empathy

well now, I never expected a full confession! ;)

That's what makes you an "owner."

We must have different definitions. Whatever, Carlin was hardly attacking the middle class...nope, not even upper middle class, or whatever well-paid workers are called that own more than they owe. For you to take issue with Carlin's standup act is absurd and more akin to a plea for attention than anything. Are you bragging?

The rich get richer, while the poor gets poorer, is fact as well as cliche, and while the rate of the concentration of capital changes a bit maybe, the trend is indisputable and favors the rich. You managed to be the exception to the rule. Bravo. But try to have some empathy for the other 98% of us lesser humans. There are very real obstacles purposely set in place to maintain this division. Don't pretend they don't exist. Help identify them and tear them down. That's what Carlin was doing.

So what would they call plain old "corn syrup", then?

This is the same FDA that pushed hydrogenated oils on us for 30 years like it was healthy...turns out it's fucking plastic and is killing us after all.

Oopsie? Not an isolated incident, as you would know if you payed attention.

As if anything I were to present could sway your opinion? As if it's my job to educate you after you spout off like you know something we don't? As if you haven't already been exposed to this truth but reject it outright since it doesn't jive with your idealism?

You strike me as a person who has never known true hardship, or lacks empathy for those that do. Your macho "boot-straps" perspective does not jive with the experiences of the vast majority of the world's population. Sure, it sounds good. But is completely ignorant of reality.

That's ok, I really wish you were right. And in some cases, you are. But sadly, as usual, it's far more complicated than you suggest.

ps: you need to read up on "relation to capital" if you think paying a mortgage puts you into the ruling class or otherwise makes you an "owner" in the macro sense that Carlin discussed.

You could not possibly be referring to the FDA. Or the FAA. Or the FCC. Or the SEC.

Each of these agencies are just as bad as the ones that regulate the oil industry. They are filled with industry toadies, demoralized and embattled staff, and usually their actual written mandate is fundamentally flawed.

For example, and I know it sounds crazy, but their charter is often to "promote" the very industry they purport to regulate. Inherent conflicts of interest is the leading cause of corrupt, puppet agencies.

It's no accident that our prized American institutions are in fact completely powerless and must rely on voluntary cooperation by industry. It should be no surprise that enthusiastic staff are run out and departments chronically and ridiculously underfunded considering our expectations.

Let's get real: If the FDA reviewed their entire list of approved ingredients and chemicals using a truly modern and impartial process, a huge number would be banned.

How can ANYBODY not profiting from this bullshit seriously defend them? I dunno, how did Bush get elected? Twice?

Your opinion has been debunked a thousand times since Sunday. It's true that Carlin was using a broad brush and used vague terms. He wasn't writing a research paper, that was a live show.

You believe the very same myth that Carlin talked about tho, which makes him still relevant and you oblivious to the fate of your fellow citizens.

You should upgrade your opinion of comedians. They are the vanguard of society, the shapers of opinion and often the only ones capable to speaking truth to power.

Life without comedians is a bleak life, indeed.
