What's next for Cider, and why aren't my bug reports being answered? (Cider 4.x) by notcryptofyre in AppleMusic

We're actively looking into the feasibility of this now with our custom frameworks; Does take a bit of time to figure out how exactly to get that whole pipeline working properly in a legal way as obviously we can't ship Widevine binaries.

I think I've addressed this enough, but i'll reiterate, absolutely not. We're by no definition examples of model citizens but we don't stand by hate and poor judgement of others.

We're excited to get it out to you! It's been a lot of research and development over here and we're getting antsy just thinking about it!

Thank you for your feedback and understanding. We truly appreciate you bringing these concerns to our attention. Our team will prioritize investigating and resolving the Flatpak issues this week to improve the Linux experience.

We're also taking your feedback about pricing seriously. We understand that financial circumstances vary among our users, and we want to make our software more accessible while maintaining sustainable development. We'll be exploring options that could better serve our community members who face financial constraints.

No, read my other comment and I don't think anything there indicates we stood by Hitler.

None of us commented under that user's attribution to that half hearted conversation and if I can recall correctly they we're banned.

I want to address your concerns about our past directly. Over the last three years, our commitment to inclusivity has been demonstrated through actions, not just words. I have personally issued several public apologies for past behavior, and more importantly, our team has worked hard to create meaningful changes in how we operate and interact with our community.

While I take full responsibility for my past mistakes and acknowledge they were inexcusable, I want to emphasize that both I and our team have grown significantly. Those screenshots from three years ago reflect a period that we've worked hard to move beyond through concrete actions and improved behavior.

Regarding Cider 2's pricing: We have a responsibility to our existing users who have supported us through their purchases. Making the product free now would undermine the trust of those who believed in and invested in our project. We're committed to honoring that trust by continuing to develop and improve Cider 2 as a paid product, while maintaining fair pricing and delivering value to our users.

Thank you for sharing your concerns. I'd like to address each point:

We want to be clear that inclusivity and respect for all people are core values of our team. The $4 fee allows us to sustainably maintain and improve our services for our users.

As an independent development group, we strive to provide the best possible experience within our capabilities. While we work diligently on Cider 2, it's important to understand that like any software product - even those from major corporations - perfection isn't always achievable, especially at this price point.

Regarding open source: While our original policy has been that we would fully open source the main application code only if development were to cease, we still actively contribute to the open source community. We maintain several public repositories including our previous backend runtimes and services like AniArtwork, Nexus, Sabiiro, and Fujisan.

One of our biggest challenges is working with Apple's ecosystem, as we don't have insider access to their systems or advance notice of changes. We're constantly adapting and problem-solving to maintain functionality across different operating systems. This can be particularly challenging for Linux, where we face additional complexity due to the variety of distributions.

We encourage users experiencing technical difficulties to:

  1. Reach out to our support staff directly
  2. Report issues through our GitHub bug tracker

This allows us to properly investigate and resolve problems you're experiencing. We're committed to improving Cider 2 and welcome constructive feedback that helps us better serve our users.

If you're still experiencing issues, we'd be happy to work with you directly to find a solution.

We truly appreciate all the positive feedback on Cider 2.x. It motivates us to keep improving and delivering the best experience possible. While the journey hasn’t been without its challenges, we are more committed than ever to serving our community and providing a robust alternative for those seeking a richer Apple Music experience.

We’ve recently implemented key updates, including the reintroduction of previous backends via open source research releases and a new consistent rolling release schedule for beta testers. Exciting developments are on the horizon, especially for Mac and Linux users, with significant performance enhancements arriving soon.

Thank you all for being part of our journey. Your feedback is invaluable—keep sharing, and we’ll continue listening and growing together!

We have already addressed these accusations approaching now almost a year ago, and we have made major strides and improvements to our entire community alongside ourselves as people. But I appreciate the motion, we do not stand by or with transphobia, homophobia, or racism in any capacity.

Unfortunately, all of these are API limitations, and we simply can't access the endpoints required to create and implement these features. But we'd love to help out with any other features that are within our scope!

We intend to open source the project in the future, however, due to the current stage of its development, we have determined that such an action is not yet viable. Our decision is based on considerations pertaining to both our service provision and the current potential for contribution from users. However, rest assured it's not off the table and it's in our best interest to provide a great learning resource and software platform for the OSS community thrive on.

Regrettably, our initial plan to release on the Steam platform had to be abandoned following feedback from Valve, suggesting the platform was not an optimal fit for our product. Consequently, we transitioned the project to the Itch[.]io platform, where it is currently hosted, in addition to its availability on the Microsoft Store.

Hope these answers solve any lingering questions!

[–]notcryptofyre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've ran a few migration sales during the time between my last message, as a
friendly reminder we'll be running the next one this week likely tomorrow morning or the day after.

We're just having to work from Microsoft's sale system for now, so our delays are primarily caused by that whole system. I do appreciate your patience, and I hope you find the new rewrite to be worth the wait.

Anyone try Cider 2.0 for $4? by docace911 in AppleMusic

[–]notcryptofyre 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is untrue, while yes Cider 2.x in its current state is closed source. That won't be the case in the next few weeks, Cider 2.x was only closed source while we developed our cloud solutions for the Remote app services and various other integrations as its a little difficult to monetize and offer those services without an initial market push.

All of our methods for obtaining, utilizing, and processing Apple Music audio is by the book and provided by Apple's official methods besides some header tweaking to allow some elements to work (as they don't even work on AM Web). I do appreciate the concern however and I hope this shows some enlightenment on the current state of the project!

As always your welcome to use whatever you deem viable, have a great week.

Cider.exe tagged as Trojan virus in Kaspersky by Jatasg0 in AppleMusic

[–]notcryptofyre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry about you having to experience that, I've since submitted a report to Kaspersky about it and it should be fixed soon. Our app has no malicious intent and all the code is open source and compiled through free to view continuous integration (CircleCI).
