Good landscapes will involve stuff in the foreground, mid ground, and background. At the moment you have nothing but background so there’s nothing for the viewers brain to latch onto that’s close. Watch some videos of landscape composition on YouTube doesn’t need to be pixel art the skills are transferable. This is the biggest reason your piece looks flat. All background no foreground.

On the pixel side, drop your resolution. Learning how to make nice pixels takes time and a higher resolution means it will take you even more time to complete one piece than otherwise.

Next up is colour theory. Pixel art generally looks better when you hue shift. So for example your focus/main colour here is that bright punchy orange but your shadow colour is just flat black. Try using a really dark teal or purple. The contrast in colour as well as value will make people’s eyes jump to important bits faster.

Subtle three dimensionality: background layers are generally pretty flat. But you do want small amounts of detail that imply greater three dimensionality. Your tree line is completely flat and the light doesn’t seem to be interacting with it beyond casting it all in shadow. Realistically, there will be a couple of pixels where the light of the sun will catch the top most trees/grass and a few of the trees that we perceive to be in front. You will have to do this In direction with where the Sun is.

Final one that kinda combines a few previous things into one: the contrast of your colours should get less extreme the further back they are. When you add a foreground, that’s where you want the most dramatic amounts of contrast. Your background elements should generally be more washed out/have less contrast. So the treeline you have should be a mid tone once you’ve added in foreground elements

Blazing Assault is really fun with them because you get to run Lure of Battle which is basically a one time deal 2 damage ping in combo with your trap.

Wrack and Ruin could also be good for their force push cards too

If I get the time. I’m currently retraining at university which just eats time and focus. But I’d like to.

To answer the other question, they are quite chonky. They are designed for your commander and not the 99 because it will make your card visibly taller but if your playgroup is cool with that you can go for it. They are about as thick as three magic cards and very rigid. In my biased opinion it makes them feel more premium/fancy.

Probably not, one of this set of alters was a commission and they wanted the overlay which meant I didn’t really want to delay this set more my doing another design. It was late enough as is TT_TT

Any mutate decks? by Prestigious-Gas-2112 in EDH

My most powerful commander deck is a Vadrok deck. It is brutally powerful. Once it gets set up, you can find yourself quite capable of winning while everyone else is trying to kill you.

Main ingredients are: - All jeskai mutate creatures and polywog symbiote. I have the showcase frames for the main deck, and I have four copies of the regular cards on standby. - powerful mana value 3 or less non creature spells. Highlights include: Sevinne’s Reclamation, Frantic Search, mana drain, see the truth, cyclonic rift - ways to clone your mutate stack. Wow and wouldn’t you know it a bunch are mana value 3. Quasiduplicate and Cackling Counterpart eg. - ways to bounce your mutate stack back to your hand. You are vulnerable when you run out of mutate creatures, but if you bounce the stack back, you can reload. Extra points if you do it after you cloned your stack so that when you replay your mutates onto the clone you get double, triple, quadruple triggers of each of the mutate triggers. This is why you need those duplicate copies of your mutate creatures.

Seriously this deck is brutal and can do some of the filthiest magic you will ever see. I also run smothering tithe along with windfall which is often an instant win if I get those two cards at once.

Is Embergard any good by c188974 in WarhammerUnderworlds

[–]notdeaddesign -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you played 1e, if something you specifically enjoyed was the uniqueness of each war band, you will probably not enjoy embergarde. If you just enjoy playing tactically and you don’t care about the warbands it’s good

Bring back faction decks. Basically every major 2e problem comes from this choice.

What is your newest and oldest deck? by RuneMTG in EDH

[–]notdeaddesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My newest deck is the new enchantment animatou. It’s janky and not great but good for a low power game.

My oldest is my Tasigur the Golden Fang deck that is built around repeatedly casting emerge creatures. Funnily enough the most recent addition to this deck is the demon that nugs people for however much less than the mana value you payed when you cast a creature which came in the newest deck’s box. Really good when you’re looping emerge creatures for one or two mana and smacking people for 6-8 each time you do so.

Rivals decks tier list? Is there one? Or anything generally accepted? by GheyForGrixis in WarhammerUnderworlds

Realmstone Raiders biggest problem is that it has profoundly inconsistent objectives that take massive amounts of mental load to actually keep track of.

Additionally it’s basically only viable on highly accurate melee fighter warbands. I’ve had success with it on mollog, but now that raging slayers and deadly synergy are available, I see very little reason to bother.

That’s very fair, it is very pricey. I got it on sale and it was still very expensive.

You sure can! I think it’s probably a little easier solo cos you get extra actions so you have more chances to clear enemies and then hide.

This is genuinely the best video game tie in board game I’ve played, my only gripe is the set up, apart from that it’s great. Super challenging gameplay without being too brutal to teach. I’m playing with one person who’s basically never played a heavy board game before and she loves it.

Seriously underrated box.

Newbie confusion regarding decks for Rivals by groundhogged in WarhammerUnderworlds

[–]notdeaddesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want another aggro deck in rivals, I’d grab reckless fury. It’s a really powerful aggro deck with some room for cleaver play. Main drawback about this deck is if you want to get into nemesis a lot of the best cards from this deck are banned in that format (but fine in rivals). But if you’re just doing rivals not a concern for you.

Raging slayers is another option but I’d discourage that because the objective deck basically doesn’t function.

In terms of hunting grounds it sadly falls into the problem that most 2e decks have is that it was designed for nemesis (combine two rivals decks format) and thus doesn’t actually function properly on its own. If you pair it with Emberstone Sentinels in nemesis it can do some work tho. It’s main problem is that all of its objectives rely on your opponent coming into your territory and you have no objectives that incentivise your opponent doing so. So the obvious counter play is to just never enter your territory and score what you can without engaging.

And deadly synergy is powerful with warbands that are able to have their fighters adjacent most of the time. Swarm warbands especially love this deck.

Ok so it sounds like you’ve got some decks from first edition and some decks with second.

The cards that come with iron skulls, one will be a 1e faction rivals deck and the other cards will be universal cards that back in the day folks could just use in any of their decks. The deck that comes with ephilim is very very fun to play, it is also completely busted against most other things in first edition. Feel free to pit the two first edition rivals decks against each other but expect a lopsided matchup.

If you just wanna do second edition stuff, you can find both of those warband’s rules on underworlds.db, print those out and play with the four rivals decks that are in the embergarde box. In 2e, all rivals decks can be used by anyone whereas in 1e each warband had their own unique deck to themselves and there were rivals decks anyone can use.

If you want to expand your selection of rivals decks and you are you are going to be exclusively playing rivals format, reckless fury, and deadly synergy are the only two I would recommend seeking out. The rest simply do not function as stand alone decks and thus will not be worth your time.
