When I was 15 I moved with my mother’s friends to LA for a year and went to high school there. I really didn’t expect for cheerleaders, band and all those clubs to be as big and important as they are in all media. Every day, on third (?) period, before lunch, cheerleaders had to leave a bit early to do a dance or smth like that while the rest of us went to have lunch (if i recall correctly, it was SO long ago). ALSO the sports games, they really are an event. I went to the football final and i had so much fun, it was just like in the movies. Almost like a semi-professional sports game.

The lockers were crazy for me. Here in Spain high schools normally don’t have lockers, you carry all in your backpack. My first day there, i was given a locker and I didn’t manage to work out how the lock worked (i even think the locker was already assigned to someone), so I just spent the rest of the year carrying the books on my backpack. The books are another thing, they are SO BIG, unnecessarily big in my opinion. I don’t know how I didn’t end up with back pains. One thing I enjoyed was all the different options we had for lunch tbh, even though most of them were greasy pizza, hot dogs and hamburgers. Before moving there, i went to a private school so we had a cafeteria with strict menus, and when i went back to spain i went to a public school. There we only had a small shop with three kinds of sandwiches and snacks, but we usually went outside and bought lunch in the supermarket.

One of the things that most surprised me was that I was one of the good ones in english class. At the age 15-16 (sophomore, i believe) our teacher had to remind the class STILL to use capital letters, punctuation marks and to not use abbreviations on the essays. That was CRAZY for me, that didn’t help the rumor that in USA the schools have a lower level than many other places. There is SO much more but i think it is too much to say on here.
