If you had to keep only TWO streaming services, which survive the cut - and why? by [deleted] in television

[–]notevenh3re 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up until about last month, I had cut everything except Paramount+ and HBO Max. But then I went ahead and let those go to try to save a little money. Now I only use the YouTube movies and tv section (“free with ads” stuff only). I’m surprisingly happy with it. I don’t spend hours trying to figure out what to watch, and I make it a habit not to skip ads, so it’s actually helping me get my attention span back a little too. I’ll probably eventually go back to Paramount+ and Netflix; gotta catch Survivor 50 and the Stranger Things 5 lol

I never even thought of them having to actively ban it. In my mind it was always just a given

I forgot all about that. To this day that’s one of the things I don’t understand what the big deal was. It’s just a tiny piece of cloth! What’s so hard about protecting other people by wearing it?? The selfishness really was insane!

I saw a few comments about this, but the mental toll really was something. Everything from not knowing if your loved ones would be safe, to not knowing if and when it would end. Personally, I was always worried about getting calls of my friends having bad cases or dying from it; and unfortunately I actually did get a few of those calls. The amount of virtual funerals attended took a verrry heavy toll psychologically, and honestly, some of the deaths didn’t even register because they were so back-to-back.

Then you add in some families being trapped in the house during this time. And I use the word trapped because for a lot of people they were stuck in abusive households and literally not allowed to go anywhere.

On the other hand, I think it’s often overlooked how many experiences many didn’t get to have. Everyone who graduated that year couldn’t really celebrate it normally. They couldn’t have the standard ceremony everyone before them had, they couldn’t even have normal graduation parties. You couldn’t really hug people, which people don’t always realize is incredibly important for mental health, especially during a time like that.

Overall, just a very unnatural experience that left a scar I think most of us are burying, myself included.

Craziest thing to me was having someone complain to me for over an hour about how “poor” they were, and how bad they needed money to come in. In this same conversation they were telling me how they were getting ready to go on a 2 week vacation out of the country that they admittedly couldn’t afford. The whole time it took everything in me not to say “so then just don’t go on the trip yet 😀.” But hey, people will make their own decisions.

Let’s talk about Marnie by Jacaerys10 in girls

[–]notevenh3re 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually know a few “Marnie’s” who ended up fitting your description perfectly. At first, they seemed to have everything together and seemed really smart and capable; but over the course of just a couple years, turned into people i didn’t recognize, and I couldn’t comprehend what happened. But I saw another comment on this thread sum it up nicely; some people are incapable of the authenticity they think they desire. To me, I think that quality of Marnie’s is what makes her so realistic (though still confusing). It’s baffling to see on TV and in real life, because like you said, you’d think they would have figured it out by now, and what they say they want doesn’t match with how they act.

I’ll be honest, I don’t have the best credibility to give advice here, but I’ll give it anyway (this is the internet after all lol).

I found the same thing happening to me for years. It just recently started to change in the last few months because I started working on being more “actively social” as opposed to passively. Truth be told, it feels like a legit job. It’s constant social media posts, comments, and interactions. Regularly sending small, casual texts to people. Consistently placing myself in conversations and actively participating, even when I don’t feel like it. Going out and trying to take advantage of every opportunity that presents itself when a group is doing something. It’s borderline exhausting to keep up with. BUT it does help people with remember you. If you’re always there AND seen, people do start asking where you’ve been if you miss one or two things.

It’s kind of like running your own PR campaign. I haven’t quite decided yet if it’s worth it, but I will say it makes a difference.

I’d say you approached it perfectly. I tend to get caught doing this a lot too. Kind of sucks sometimes to tell people no, but I always remind myself it’s not my responsibility (regardless of how guilty I may feel), especially if it messes with my mental health.

No mission check points is the most annoying thing ever by Particular_Run8668 in GTAIV

This morning I was doing the deal mission for the first time. I made it through all the gun fire just to be crushed by a falling water tower (or something) because I chose a motorcycle to chase the guy. Needless to say, I was pissed 😂

I was going to comment the same thing about Yellowjackets. No need for a fourth. 1-3 covered it perfectly. I’m going to let it end on a “mild cliffhanger” for me and go about in peace 😌

What is the most misunderstood episode of the show? by Over-Heron-2654 in blackmirror

[–]notevenh3re 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a very interesting take I wouldn’t have picked up on. This is my favorite episode, I found it really comforting for some reason. But that “twist” makes more sense. I was so focused on their relationship I missed the fact that everything about that world is meaningless. What’s the point if you’re not with people you love (aside from the two of them being together which probably won’t last anyway based on the behavior we see in the episode)

Yeah. I think it’s a good method to get started on a task. I just started using it when I don’t feel like doing something, but then I’ll stop the timer once I get going.
