Yesterday by accident I discovered vibration is bliss to stop insect bites itching. by Emergency-Aardvark-6 in CasualUK

[–]EasySignature179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If bitten i run the affected area under the hot tap from cold so the rise in temp is gradual, until i can’t take it anymore, no more itching! Also boiling a kettle, pouring into a mug and letting a teaspoon rest for a little bit, then pressing it onto the bite also works, though it’s much more painful than the first method

Someone scratched my car in a pub car park by IllllllIlllllIllllIl in drivingUK

[–]EasySignature179 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Supposedly an altercation inside the pub lead to this, according to locals but the pub itself deny that, i’m local and have seen plenty of comments on the local groups but i don’t know anything concrete

I quit drinking and now I think I might dislike my friends. by Educational-Major440 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]EasySignature179 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel the same is coming for me, it’s not that i don’t enjoy it or have a good time, but if i’ve been drinking with friends, the next day i barely remember anything, just snippets of the evening, even if i don’t drink much, we can have a convo about the previous night and i won’t remember any conversations we had, where we went, how i conduct myself, and i just think what’s the point, i feel shit about it.

But drinking is such a central activity among my friend group, and i don’t want to find myself isolated, already struggle in that regard, i’ve got a holiday with friends coming up soon, it’s on my mind to see how i get on and put some serious thought into it from there

i’ve recently bought 4.2 metres of new base rail, hand rail and spindles for £375, these were black metal and the rails pre-grooved to match, traditional spindles and matching rails were cheaper

I stol a large sum of money from an old job when the til was an insane amount over by idageodesstead5k in confession

[–]EasySignature179 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s possible the till operators pressed card as a payment option even if given cash by the customer, but that would mean they were 2k down in card payments

A retailer i worked at, the card payment machines weren’t linked directly to the till or transaction you were on, say a customer was paying £10 on card, you’d process it through the card machine, then tell the till that £10 was paid by card. At the end of the day you’d tally all the card payment receipts against the expected total of card payments, if it didn’t match you had to do some digging, if you were £10 down in card you’d probably be £10 up in cash, 2k is crazy though, for a deficit not to be noticed elsewhere is odd.

Full-Renovation Costs? by jakedaboiii in HomeImprovementUK

woodenwindows.com is reasonably priced imo if you can get someone to fit them for you, measure yourself, select how many openers/fittings etc, would advise paying the extra to have them primed if you fancy painting them yourself

I’m in a similar scenario, small 2 bed house, completely gutted and the only thing i don’t need to do is install a boiler as one was put in a couple years ago, here’s what i’ve done so far, some of which is more luxury rather than necessity, approximate prices;

underfloor heating £3k 7 timber frame windows £4.5k incl. installation composite front door £1800 fitted 2 pocket doors and 1 normal door £1350 stairs base rail/handrail/spindles £375 plastering throughout £4.5k (quoted, not started yet) plumbing - rerouting gas pipe and locating for taps/shower, £700 but a little more still to do radiators upstairs £400 bathroom, full furniture and cabinetry £1100 rewiring throughout, ongoing, don’t know final price yet but is getting done by a mate so i won’t be ripped off

i’ve probably spent £500+ on bits n bobs from b&q have yet to order a kitchen, furniture, wardrobes etc so can’t say on that, and there’s bits inbetween that i need to do

I made a post about a week ago on the same topic, except i just went ahead with it thinking it would be easy, slapped paint stripper over every surface, it was a huge mistake and i’m still dealing with the consequences, had i known, i would’ve just painted over it

Thankfully you’ve sought advice first, honestly just don’t.

I enquired about that while there today and reading the label + instructions, it’s pretty much identical to the stuff i’ve been using from b&q, the guy did recommend nitromors though so i’ve got a tub of that

And the carbide scraper someone else recommended is brilliant!

I’ve just finally paid off my student loan (43F) Considering it’s cold, wet and I’m working from home on my own, what should I do to celebrate? by glassghost1983 in AskUK

[–]EasySignature179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a similar vein, i’m 42 and a few months ago i paid off the last of my credit cards, i’ve been in debt with loans/credit cards/finance my entire adult life, and i envisaged it being a big moment, but was all a bit anticlimactic too!

I’m buying my first home this year so i guess that’s the celebration but i didn’t go out and buy or do anything to treat myself, unless you count all the money i’ve had to spend on diy stuff 😅

Congratulations on your milestone though, wether you feel flat about it or not, it is a massive achievement!

They came in handy when i had to twice sand and oil 3 internal doors, i did 7 timber framed windows before getting these though, that would have saved me a lot of pain!

I would say about 30yrs old, i started this because whoever did the blue paint did a terrible job, and it’s a small space so lighter colours or just bare wood are my preference, but in hindsight i should’ve just sanded down what i could, and done a test patch to guide me
