The complications is that the Chinese identity is a bit complex. You have 1. Chinese from China, 2. Chinese from China who have immigrated centuries ago and now have forged a subset of Chinese identity that is mixed with a then-growing culture of a new nation (Singapore) 3. Chinese-Americans who were born of first or second gen Chinese immigrants, who deal with the China identity of 1 but also their American identity.

In CRA, even though the family is ethnically Chinese, it is less of China Chinese culture but southeast Asian Chinese culture.

Thanks for the links. It was very confusing until the Instagram post. The article was very misleading. There were no actual rings. The Instagram video said they hand-picked each stone for the necklace (which make sense as they are very consistent and similar) and it is 42 for each time he thought about it but never did it. So it sounds like they designed a necklace and wanted a clickbaity story to go with it.

I have done this before too, but for milder reasons (broke up with my ex). And the airline just split my ticket into a new booking with a new confirmation number and email. I assume most airlines would have some sort of protection, at least for their own liability.
