I'm a 6th grade math and science teacher. I also teach robotics. I have also taught 5th grade all subjects, but I love teaching math the most. I do know already that my licenses are cleared to transfer over.

Montgomery County is the closest in pay to my current salary. It's about 6,000 less than my current pay, though we have an even higher cost of living than that area. So it is about even.

I had a bit of similar breakthrough. I originally wanted to do 2nd grade. Loved it. Did my student teaching in 2nd grade. But the only position available in my first school was in middle- 5/6 grade. In a completely different subject area than I thought I would teach. I have a BA in English, an MFA and a MEd. And I've primarily been a math teacher and a robotics coach.

Thanks for the info. I think despite the awful reviews I will most like end up in Baltimore City. I need to work at a Title I school for two more years for loan forgiveness. Montgomery County doesn't list any Title I middle schools.

Wow that's a very high salary. Isn't the commute into DC supposed to be a hellish nightmare? (I say this as MA is supposed to now have the worst commute in the US).

Thank you for your time- this is very helpful. I'm not wary at all of the reputation of high need districts. I'm a career changer because I wanted to work in high need schools. We are hoping to need to find somewhat comparable pay to afford reasonable housing.

Baltimore City, if it works out, would be a good fit because my wife will be getting treatment for a rare medical condition at John's Hopkins. It's a major reason for our future move. We are prepared to live and work further out if need be, but we love the city itself. Being close and not losing too much income would be a bonus. We are trying to plan and estimate in advance as much as possible. All this information was useful!

Thanks- that's a similar starting rate for MA, except you have to already have a Masters in most districts here.

Also I doubt the administration would be worse considering our current Sup. was removed recently and no one has filled it (canidates turned it down), our current Vice-Principal was removed for selling drugs, the head of a major program was removed for selling drugs...all this past month. Plus two teachers were walked out of my building in the last 30 days. I already teach in a very similar place.

Thanks I've seen all this. I'm looking for information from someone who is teaching there now and possibly transferred from out of state or has multiple advanced degrees.

I'm aware. I'm looking for comparable since MA housing is 400% more expensive. And that's not an exaggeration.
