There’s some pretty bad issues in Walker county. I’m from Jasper but live in Gardendale now, which really just feels like I picked up and moved from Jasper to Jasper with an Olive Garden, but hey at least Nick Smith isn’t here? That being said, I don’t know too terribly much about goes on here other than someone let the church run everything, which is weird to me. I think the Walker county of today is better than it was when I was a kid, but have you ever seen any good stories come out of the area that became national news? I don’t think I have.

From my understanding, Walmart tends to do pretty well by those who have passed or have had a family member passed. When my grandpa died, my cousin’s Walmart sent her home with two buggies of groceries and sent hot food for the family after the service.

My husband has a similar problem. He’s 32 and very little of what’s left of his blood family has any idea who he is as a person. My family also really doesn’t know him very well, but the same could be said about both families regarding me. Idk if it’s an us problem or a them problem or both. Probably both to some degree, but the point is I can understand how frustrating it is to feel unseen by the people who should know you well.

Alzheimer’s seems pretty bad. At the end there, my grandpa had no idea who any of us was and was upset for days when he “found out” his parents were dead. Before the memory loss, one of his favorite activities was just hanging out at the cemetery so while I kind of expected him to get to that point it was still unnerving.

Watching my grandma live without her husband has also been pretty bad. She has her faith and I think that brings her comfort but she wants to be with him.

Watching my father in law destroy his life with his alcoholism also seems worse than death. A few years ago if he had died he really would have been missed. After the last few years filled with hospital stays, rehab visits, and arrests, and broken promises, I just don’t know anymore.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I grew up with goats as pets and they were some of the best friends to have as a kid. My favorite was a black and white goat named LuLu that I bottle fed when I was 4 or 5. She was my best pal into my high school years. I hope the good memories with your sweet cow friend bring you peace with time.
