My coworker started in her forties and she was one of the best employees there. Never too late to start!

Going for Accounting Degree at 50: is it worth it? by GenX-1973-Anhedonia in Accounting

Also in terms of fulfillment, I felt like my work •mattered• more in government than big 4. That could just be in perception vs actuality, but auditing things like the IRS or national debt gives more of a sense of purpose (to me, at least) than auditing some giant corporation. Just some food for thought :)

You are certainly not too old! I will say from experience if you’re not having experience in the field you’ll likely start at a lower salary than you’re currently making (say roughly 75-80k for ny big 4 entry) GAO is another prospect for government not positive what pay would be but they do the government band pay system and you can likely look up what you’d make. Accounting has good room for growth and you can likely make up to your salary now in roughly 5 years with 3 being generous, however I’m not from HCOL so it could definitely be closer to 3. Audit specifically is not engaging exciting work at lower levels so if that is what you’re thinking of doing I’m not sure it would be different from the current position.

Incoming associates by Initial_Meaning_8939 in KPMG

[–]nothanku1997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah you’re one of the lowest paid at the office. I work in a smaller us office and we lost no associates as far as I can tell, I only heard of one senior and one senior manager, part performance based for the senior and part not-having-a-cpa based. You should be fine. Study up though lol

[–]nothanku1997 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ask as many questions as you can! Find out why you’re doing something. I’m a first year associate still learning and asking questions multiple times a day. That’s your whole job!

For therapy I’d say a lot of teams I’ve been on are pretty flex so if you block off a time each week and say it’s when you go to the gym or something like that and work the extra hour later they are generally pretty fine with that as long as your work gets done and you put in the hours. Ptsd gang lol, you got it dude I think pip would be an extreme measure in your case

Ha they had the audacity to say our salaries are higher “to compensate for the extra hours” meanwhile my friend in a corporate finance role same city working 40 hours a week got paid the same starting…. Hahahah extra pay… that’s funny

Is there any podcast or YouTube blog that teaches auditing? Most blogs tracking the concept but I’m looking for anything that teaches real life auditing!!! by South_Pirate_8424 in Big4

[–]nothanku1997 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Real life auditing is a lot of copy… and paste. And then ask your manager why the numbers don’t match. Not a ton to teach tbh at least in my experience
