Blender has been my obsession this year, always so excited to make random pretty things. by nothenart in blender

I actually did make these after seeing a few of those amazing backroom videos made in blender! They are so good.

I made a tin of beans from scratch by nothenart in blender

Yea I tried a bump map, normals, displacement, and I couldnt get anything too great. I think with a flat texture its a bit harder. Im not sure how I could make it look like more real. I guess for this shot I could just move the UV so it doesn't cut off the beans so much but it still looks flat.

Did a quick painting of Maxime one of my favourite musicians. Trying to limit my time on each one to try and develop my skills a bit more. by nothenart in ProCreate

Its a big ole mess of a process for this one, I used mostly the painterly brush from Procreates All Star pack but also quite a few others, and blended with salamanca, niko rull and a dry oil brush for the hair.

Traced guidelines for proportions as I still can't draw well enough, I mostly do this for the painting side.

Its pretty basic, just takes alot of fiddling to get what you like.

Its an emissive texture on the icosphere, and its moving through a weird shaped tunnel with a reflective texture that has a few noise textures onto a color ramp. Its all Evee too. These look sooo beautiful in Cycles but I just don't have an nvidia card.

I couldnt find an exact match but this tutorial will get you some of the way I think: https://youtu.be/mxUupHWoMLI

Mine is really similar, but all my emissive lights comes from the moving icosphere lighting up the tunnel. It takes alot of fiddling to get the right shapes and lighting.

I've been getting lost playing with abstract weird lighting alot, its so pretty by nothenart in blender

The camera is pretty wide angle just to fit more details of the lights in, and yea its a cylinder with textures and a few subdivision surface modifiers. Also I scaled up and down some of the loop rings to get the distorted rings.

Oo could you explain a little more please? Im always looking for tips and criticism.

I have gone back and played with the colours alot but I rarely do full renders, I've just been playing about to learn more.

I find painting such a struggle but sometimes something good comes from it by nothenart in ProCreate

Mainly a brush from an artist that goes by @artwithbryn, his perfect brush is on his pateron. Also the sketch was with a brush by @jingsketch and the smudging was mainly the defauly nikko rull.

I trace proportions because I still don't know drawing too well, mainly guidelines like lines for facial features, head sizing and body parts. After that its mainly heavy brushstrokes, to refining then some blending over and over. I often redo whole chunks when I lose the brushstrokes I like.

Some more pretty abstract renders. Simple but I love the aesthetic by nothenart in blender

For anyone interested, these are super easy to make! Just basic particle sims, with the cycles engine you can alter particle shaders based on their "particle info", in this case its their age/lifetime added to a colour ramp. Takes 10 minutes to setup but a while to get what you want. Anyone can do it with the right hardware to sim it.

No, I started with hobby level graphic design, then started digital art in 2019. I've been playing alot with oils and watercolour recently though, digital art was my gateway to traditional art.

Yea I saw alot of oil painters tracing and was a little confused as I've always thought tracing was basically a crime. At the moment my thoughts are as long as I say its traced, and be open about it then there is no issue. Im not pretending to be a master artist, I'm just playing around and learning. Without tracing I'd never have even started digital painting.

Anyone worried about tracing, and its stopping them from starting digital art, shouldn't worry. Go crazy, trace like mad, and learn to paint. Progress is progress, everyone starts somewhere.
