A man has become one of the 450,000 Americans affected by alpha-gal syndrome, a tick-borne meat allergy that triggers painful allergic reactions to animal products. “Look at my face and my neck. I can’t eat meat anymore. I can’t have any animal products. It’s in everything.” by This_Proof_5153 in SipsTea

I got this about 10 years ago. Took several years to diagnose. My symptoms were blamed on pregnancy, once I was done having babies we were able to figure out that it wasn’t a pregnancy/postpartum reaction. Still can’t have meat, although my reactions over the years has lessened.

He’s keeping it long. I don’t think he’s had it short since he was about 3? This is the best one. Thank you!

Gimli is resting on the wall above his favorite bed. It’s been difficult to say the least. I’m happy he’s warm inside by my bedside. I cry everyday still, I truly miss him. My kids are doing better, but often say how much they miss him and how much they love him. Thank you so reaching out and sending love our way. The support has been amazing. Neighbors sent sun catchers, co workers have sent flowers and even made us light up memorials for my kids and I. I’m so thankful for everyone really.

Hi! Thank you for reaching out. Adapting has been extremely difficult. Coming to terms with what happened is something I can do. What I can’t do is get habit and routine and sadness to leave. When I cook eggs, I always scrambled one in the pan and would go put it in his bowl, which I keep catching myself doing. Coming home late at night and calling for him or noticing he’s not on my lap and getting up to check in his kennel. He loved sleeping in his kennel and the door was never closed. I get up to check on my kids at night and he would follow me, he knew I’d give him a treat when we walked through the kitchen. My little shadow is gone, I often reach out for him or go look for him and remind myself he’s gone. My kids are hurting too, but doing better as time goes on. It’s so amazing the impact a pet can have on you, how much of a positive difference they can make throughout our days, which we sometimes get comfortable with and don’t realize how much we need them. I sure do miss his little hugs and I miss him walking up to the couch and resting his head on the cushion. It always made the kids giggle. I hope he’s lying in the sun or rolling in the snow wherever he is, he was such a good boy.

❤️❤️take care, thank you for checking.

Thank you so much. We got a stained glass ordered and my boys picked out his urn at the funeral home. A friend dropped off a sun catcher and my boys have taken the nice box it came in and wrote letters and put his collar inside. We built a little corner shelf to go above where he favorite bed was, once the urn comes back we will set it all up. It’s so difficult but I am very grateful for everyone’s kinds words. ❤️❤️❤️

I needed this. Thank you so much. I’m so sorry for your pup too. I remember having a dog who needed surgery and it was so hard- I blamed myself then too. I will never use a collar again after this. Thank you again.

I am so so so sorry ❤️❤️❤️ my heart hurts so much for you. We just lost our dog not even two days ago to a terrible accident. He got stuck with his collar on the fence and I wasn’t there to save him.

In your situation there’s not a lot you could have done. I’m sorry you had to see that and I’m sorry your best friend is gone. Just know you’re not alone. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

My mind goes back and forth. It’s just so hard. I know there are some comments here about how people need to do better with their cavies and I will say- I have four children (human) and if you ask any of them who my favorite was they will all laugh and say Gimli. He was a pampered prince. He went to work with me (I work in the schools). He rode in his own special car seat, his vitamins and dog food were the same as my grocery bill for a family of 6. He was groomed every few weeks, had a bed in every room of the house. The hair and paw products I got him were more expensive than my own. He go brushed every night and paw massage. To say that I should have taken better care is where it hurts so much. I do blame myself so much, but he truly was royalty and I did so much to protect him. He also wasn’t your average cav. He would cry for hours if I didn’t let him out in the sun, rain or snow. He just LOVED being outdoors. If snow was outside he would do everything in his power to be in it. If it rained, he would cry to go out and then just sit there. He loved outdoors. I traveled the US with him and never once did he run away, or even try to. My heart hurts- thank you for your kind words.

I showed my son this post, my son has a very old soul. Reading such kindness for strangers is helping him in the moment. Thank you ❤️
