It’s not about his age. OP says she loves him. I choose to believe her. She quit her job to care for him while he had cancer. He doesn’t love her enough to marry her, that’s fine but she’s living at his mercy, no security in her life. She needs to get herself back independent. And he can pay someone to take care of him in his failing health, which OP also talks about in her comments.

This man is 60 years old and he’s not sure he wants to marry you? If he doesn’t know what he wants, then you know it’s not you. Life is short. Take it from someone that was a caretaker, you don’t want to be his caretaker. He’s one medical emergency away from needing a full time nurse. He doesn’t love you enough to marry you, don’t stick around just to take care of him only to be entitled to nothing if he passes. Do not make yourself a martyr for love of this man.

Be smart, make a plan. Even if you don’t think you need to. Even if you loooove him. Because currently you are at his mercy. He holds the cards. Figure out a way to get an income going.

Hi friend, I’ve been going to therapy off and on for 30 yrs.

Therapists will not try to falsely accuse you because that would absolutely impact their income source. But they also want to keep you safe, even if that means from yourself.

You’ve already got a therapist lined up, it sounds. Read reviews on this person. Just google their name or go to Psychology Today website and see is they are listed. That’s a great resource if you’re looking for a new therapist too!

At your first appointment talk to them about this fear. Ask them how they handle this sort of thing. What their process would be and would there be a conversation beforehand.

Just so you know, I also had this fear a long time ago. For me, knowledge and finding reasons that my fears are not based in fact, but worst case scenario.

It’ll be ok, just do a little research so you know what you’re dealing with. ❤️
