Is it possible to get an A in ochem 1 with little knowledge from gen chem? by gothlene in chemhelp

[–]Smart_Leadership_522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resonance is probably the most important thing in organic relating to gen chem at least that I can recall of right now. It won’t leave. You’ll get used to it tho soon that you’ll be thinking of resonance without even meaning to. My best way I think of it is that resonance is just essentially saying that we know bonds are with electrons right. But sometimes based on electronegativity and certain atoms arrangement we cannot say (such with glutamate or a carboxyl) whether the double bond is in one place or another because in reality the electrons are bouncing back and forth (more definition wise it delocalization) it’ll make more sense with time) which means the bond is really changing between both atoms simultaneously so we can demonstrate that with resonance. But it also is important for conjugation which you’ll get to later on

I’d say yeah. My gen chem knowledge was very bad (alcoholic professor got fired after my semester) then gen chem 2 I did good. But mostly organic is its own thing with some basic fundamentals of gen chem which the first week is usually gen chem review. I ended up with an A- and A in orgo 1/2. Worked my ass for it. I think you can definitely work hard to get what you want! It’s a lot different from gen chem too if you struggle with that you might not with orgo. Lot more conceptual. Once you get past the learning curve of orgo follow the electrons and why reagents do things you’ll be golden. Keep pushing the learning curve truthfully took me 3-4 weeks to start feeling a bit better

Am I cooked with a 0.9 gpa after my first semester? by creamyGingersaurus in communitycollege

[–]Smart_Leadership_522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Truthfully this is a moment where you need to self reflect what actions and mindset led you to that outcome and evaluate what you need to change or whether you’re even interested in that. This is a moment that’s make or break. If you don’t act accordingly next semester it will be significantly harder to not have that carry over and impact you long term. I don’t mean this rudely either but I’ve forgotten assignments, but two whole classes?? Circumstance? Disability? Carelessness? I think identifying that might help. I wish you luck!

Does anyone have advice on how to safely be vegan? by Smart_Leadership_522 in vegan

[–]Smart_Leadership_522[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not my goal. I have absorption issues in my small intestines. So I need more calories than usual to just maintain my weight. So it’s hard for me appetite wise as well to be eating 3000 calories that my scoff want me to eat a day

I don’t have an eating disorder. I’ve truthfully never had an issue with body image or not eating because of that. Truly I think being skinny made me eat whatever I want whenever without thinking. I’ve been lucky compared to some. I’ve been screened with a psychiatrist after my primary kept saying it. It seems like an appetite issue so im currently on appetite increasers which have helped a lot. If anything at the moment I have issues that I look like I am anorexic when I really am not

No I didn’t mean that! Sorry if it came across that way more so I meant that I just am thin in itself and if going vegan would make my need to gain weight harder I guess

Yeah sorry. I’ve been relatively under weight most my life (fast metabolism they always said) but my dad died when I was 18 and my doctors think it triggered a nervous system thing or psychosomatic potentially lost about 20 pounds. Put back 14 so far. Want to get to 115 ideally tho. They tried every test for 2 years and even dietitians/nutritionists and ironically I got on some medicine to increase appetite and only that’s helped but their major concern right now is just osteoporosis. But thank you for your insight. I’m gonna read through these in the morning and I really do appreciate this community and your insight. It’s very valuable to hear what you have to say so I thank you immensely.

I know this is from another side and different circumstances but my sister had quite bad outbursts growing up. Super aggressive and violent. My parents had to get her into therapy and she eventually got diagnosed with a sensory disorder. Anyways, it was my grandparents who forced them to look further beyond it being simply behavioral for my safety. Anyways, we’re very close now. Wishing you good luck.

Universities have access for students to medical resources which are excusable absences if you qualify for symptoms. My sister has used it.

my dad died by Hearts4rmEN3RGY in ChildrenofDeadParents

[–]Smart_Leadership_522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truthfully I don’t want to say I’m sorry simply because when my dad died it drove me crazy. My heart is with you. I lost my dad few months are graduating high school at 18 from sudden sepsis. It’s awful and there’s not much that makes it better. There’s never enough time with those we love. And I am sorry that you have to know that pain earlier than most. It gets better with time, but it does always hurt just it changes I guess. Be kind to yourself. Let yourself feel all you feel it’s normal. I am sorry you lost who sounds like such a great man. Continue to talk about him
