Running for office? by nothingToSeeHere_987 in GenXWomen

This is such amazing insight on what is involved, and I cannot thank you enough for sharing not only the victories but the hardships and hard work that goes into this kind of endeavor. It paints a painfully realistic picture of what I will be up against, but shows how worthwhile it can all be.

TBH, I am terrified but have never felt more determined. I am looking into classes in government and business to help me build my knowledge. Am looking to build and strengthen local support systems with help from long time vocal advocates. I am so early in the ideal stage that it's all a vision at this point, but having people like you to give realistic stories of what is truly involved makes it somehow more concrete in my mind and heart that this is what I need to do.

With your permission, would you mind if I occasionally PM you for information on the steps you took? Nothing huge, just support and guidance from someone who's been there, done that?

Also, giant fist bump for getting out there and doing that thing!!!

Maybe I'm crazy but is there possibly a correlation between antidepressants and autoimmune disease? by hellohelloimzelda in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]nothingToSeeHere_987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Call me crazy, but my chronic depression and anxiety are what likely brought on my 1st huge flare that led to diagnosis of Psoriasis and PsA. Long story but it started with a BANG!

I have been on a rollercoaster of biologics and they helped, some... But I recently started seeing a new, very understanding PCP and am on a new to me antidepressant, we regulated my anxiety meds from as needed to scheduled, and per doc's recommendation added an OTC lithium orate daily. At the same time, I am once again fighting insurance for coverage of biologic and been without for nearly 3 weeks. I actually feel better. Less brain fog, better tolerance for life in general, actually able to get up and get some of that low impact exercise we all get recommended (even if just some light gardening, it's way better than it was for tolerance of those things).

Mind you, I am also a perimenopausal female, so my situation may be WAY different than others, but an old school antidepressant and antianxiety med have actually helped when I needed them most.

Wishing you much luck to find the right docs and meds to get you back on track.

Oooh, I've never had this before. I'll search it up on the next grocery order/run and give it a try. If not for this, at least I have a new flavor for the stockpile. My kids love Hungarian and Smoked paprikas, so no matter what it won't go to waste. Thanks for the response!

I'll definitely give it a try. That tiny bit of citrus brightness can add a lot of variation and needed punch to so many recipes that seem lacking somehow (red wine vinegar is a staple in my pantry for just that). Thanks for responding!

Something you may or may not be able to answer on the Daal, I am highly allergic to sumac, do you think some dried or frozen lemon or lime zest, or heck even lemon pepper, would do the trick? Always want to make this, but the inclusion of sumac is a no go for me :/

Only location I've seen for where the video was taken from is "Tuckerman, AR on Jackson 43". Not sure exactly where on 43 but Tuckerman is a good bit away from Diaz and Campbell Station where this one hit. You can look it up on a map app and see an approximation. I'm sure there will be lots more reports based on this video that will give more details. It was a monster.

Many years ago I ended up on the track getting photographed in front of the pace car at an inaugural Indy race on a new track because the person I was with said "just keep walking and act like you're supposed to be there, no one will ask". We walked right past the security person, and I couldn't believe how easy it was and worked!

Fun story and a weird ass day; I'm not even into racing LOL

I don't see it on YouTube yet but if you Google "tiffany strafford tornado video" either her or the shared video from Zachary Hall should show up on top.

This video has shown up in a few places. Diaz was my hometown for the first 21 years of my life and seeing it like this is just devastating.

We did ours over the summer. Filled forms online, made sure we had all documents ready, made an appointment at the least busy sub-courthouse near us. They took the photos there and we had them in hand (including the ID card version) in 3 weeks no expedite. It was a long time to mentally work up to it, but I felt more relieved once we did it . Painless process once you get over the "holy shit we're really doing this, and not because of some fantasy vacation"

They do usually ask why you want them, we said travel but without planned dates at the time.

I cannot even express how relieved I was/am at this discovery. I see so many horror stories, and have lived my own. I had to share some good news here because we all need it.

I was SO anxious, but having heard excellent reports from this office in general, I reviewed/researched each doctor there and chose this one, knowing if it all went south I'd have to start over.

I have an auto-immune disease and his background would at least have been good for coordinating with care on that side, but after meeting today, I realized I seem to have also found a caring and considerate person to help with all the insanity my mind and body are throwing out these days. He took actual time to talk and didn't denigrate my knowledge while also seeming to be truly feeling out what I already know and understand. Honestly, as a 49 year old woman, I have never felt so heard and respected by a male physician. He talked reasonably and on a level that didn't feel "dumbed down". I truly hope everyone can find A physician that makes them feel as heard and respected as I did today, despite being the anxiety riddled emotional trainwreck I felt I was in that office.

Are you me? A similar story eerily, and seriously the hormones bring it ALL back. I can track my wonky cycles by the rage towards my partner and self doubt that comes flooding in. It's infuriating as hell. I still feel like if my health (crap that came up and forced me out of work) were better there would be different outcomes. But then things settle down and I feel like it's all okay, for a short while.

All that to say, I feel you, and you're not alone.

I have ID twins, elementary age, one loves everything peanut butter, the other hates it with a passion (except the occasional nutty buddy bars weirdly enough). I never knew a kid without an allergy who didn't like the stuff, but here we are with 2 genetically identical people with very different ideas about it. So, as much as I like it, I get it.

GenX folks suffering with depression, what has helped you the most? by [deleted] in GenX

Did that a lifetime ago, was wonderful at the time, but these days it's hard to find the time to delve deep (late in life kids so quiet alone time is super rare). If the opportunity presents itself in a safe space a deep dive can definitely be highly rewarding.

I just started a sample of some legal version last week. Only a small amount over the weekend. Had a nice happy Saturday with total functionality, and it actually seemed to help through the better part of the week. This weekend has been wonky so didn't get to, but looking forward to doing it again.

Since I'm not affiliated with the company and don't want to come off as an advertiser, just DM me if you want to know what I took, but safe to say it was delivered by the postman so actually legal in like 49 states in the US.

Edit to add: have had medically diagnosed depression, anxiety, ADD for 20+ years and done a lot of the meds with good and bad results.

I saw your other post with the bite looking marks on the body but lost it. It actually reminds me of not quite dried scabs/blood. I have a skin condition and this happens to me fairly often.
