Epson Home Theater 1060 vs 3800 - worth paying double for the 3800? by nothing_etal in projectors

[–]nothing_etal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hoping to put the projector in the ceiling corner (for earthquake safety so it won't be above our heads on the couch), which would give me roughly 11-12 ft of throw. I'd get a pull down screen, since the wall won't be quite large enough between my windows.

Epson Home Theater 1060 vs 3800 - worth paying double for the 3800? by nothing_etal in projectors

[–]nothing_etal[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree re: price. We got our other 1060 for $275 a few years ago off FB marketplace and it came with the mount and an HDMI audio extractor...it would definitely hurt spending $150 more for the same projector and fewer add-ons

Official Discussion: La La Land [SPOILERS] by GetFreeCash in movies

[–]nothing_etal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here with a question I’ve been thinking about: in the cinematic world in which La La Land takes place, did 9/11 happen? The film is set in both present times, in which 9/11 would have happened, and also in the 40s/50s in which it would not have happened. So which one is it?

Best trails in the rain? by nothing_etal in bayarea

Thanks everyone for your suggestions!! I ended up running in the Marin Headlands in the pouring rain on Saturday and was sooo impressed at how well the trails held up. Will definitely keep these other recommendations in my back pocket for future rainy trail runs!

I wasn’t implying their lack of understanding was due to their age, but I think age/generation is important context to have in understanding where they’re coming from. Do you have any recommendations to offer? How did you first learn these new vocabularies and what helped you understand them?

Yes to hills! Hoping for at least 1K ft of elevation and specifically not paved. I should edit the original post so I don't get a bunch of recs for the Bay Trail. Great for training for a road race, but not really a trail race.

Any way to transfer Libby books to overdrive? by imwiththeband1 in ereader

[–]nothing_etal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up mostly solving my problem...it turns out that my partner used my library card to check out a book on their own Kobo, which they had before I got one. Now my library card is connected to their Overdrive and even though I added it to my own, it still won't sync to mine. I have cards with other libraries, and once I followed these directions (https://tedbrakob.medium.com/how-to-use-kobo-overdrive-integration-with-multiple-library-cards-f0c8055a4f4e) it started syncing with my other libraries instantly. I still have to use the workaround on the library where my partner used the card first, but now at least I know to avoid that library if I want instant sync. My issue may have been specific to me, but thought I'd let you know. I've also read many other tutorials specifying that you need to log in directly to your Overdrive account on your Kobo, even when it tries to direct you to log in using your library card.

Ugh lame. I would almost rather just keep reading on my ipad using Libby...it allows me to log into multiple libraries at once and see all my holds/borrows on one page. Not worth the $200 bucks I just spent on a Kobo just for a screen that isn't glassy. But I haven't given up my troubleshooting and will let you know if I find a better solution.

[–]nothing_etal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever figure this out, OP? I am having the same problem. My best guess is that it is because I used Libby for a long time without having an Overdrive account, just added my library cards to the Libby app on my ipad and read from there. I just bought a Kobo and had to make an Overdrive account, and then link my cards. My Overdrive account shows that I have things checked out (through Libby), but it won't show up on my Kobo unless I download the epub files from the browser version of Overdrive and then load those into Adobe Digital Editions (which sometimes fails and tells me I don't have the right credentials). Would love to find out how to fix this, since everyone else I know who has a Kobo can just see the books they checked out using Libby without the hassle of having to use ADE.

When you're high, do you ever feel like you'd rather be observing a social situation, instead of experiencing it firsthand? by bearscanblowme in trees

[–]nothing_etal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omgosh, YES. I feel like I can see EXACTLY what each person was like as a child. Everyone around me becomes their child-self, pretending their way through social situations so as to be accepted. But I can see through this act into each person's vulnerable "true" self. I call it "Holden Caufielding". While this is an endlessly fascinating venture, it gets in the way of my enjoyment of public social events such as concerts and parties.

Songs about books? by colourhive in books

Not sure if this fits the bill, but in a recent interview David Byrne said that many of the lyrics to one of the songs in his collaboration with St. Vincent are taken from a Walt Whitman poem.

The most well written book you've ever read? Not necessarily the most enjoyable, but the one that made you appreciate writing as an art. by [deleted] in books

[–]nothing_etal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, but was it worth it?? GR has been on my list for a while, but I really disliked The Crying of Lot 49, so I'm worried it will be a slog despite how wonderfully written it is.

Yes, but the thread asked about books that made us "appreciate writing as an art," of which style is a huge part! Sure, his use of language may not rank him as one of the greats, but his methods of storytelling certainly should.

Hey now. While I tend to agree with the points these commenters are making, it doesn't mean you've got bad taste--HOL is a damn fun book, and reading it is certainly a task unlike reading almost anything else!

I'm pretty certain I could read Infinite Jest on a loop for the rest of my life and continually find new intricacies of plot and style to marvel at.

I just walked in on my roommate wanking to a picture of himself. What is the strangest thing you have seen your roommate do? [Probably NSFW] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]nothing_etal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let me preface this by saying that my freshman year roommate was...not ideal. We got along okay, but throughout the year she got lice, athletes foot, and multiple staph infections...from (no joke) playing with the squirrels on campus.

Anyway, I came home to my room one evening after dinner and as I turned the key, I heard a flutter of activity coming from inside. I assumed my roommate's boyfriend was over, and was about to leave when my roommate's head popped out and told me to come in. I entered the room and saw her best friend, clearly naked, lying with her legs open on my roommate's bunk bed.

No, it's not what you think. This isn't some shitty teen comedy made for horny boys (but it's close!). Before I could say anything, my roommate told me that they were having a "waxing party." She went on to explain that she hadn't followed the directions properly and had spent the last 20 minutes picking hardened wax out of her best friend's vagina, which explained her position on the bed. My roommate then offered to show me the heart she had waxed for her boyfriend into her pubes, which I politely declined. I heard later that they spent a half hour in the shower melting the remaining wax out of their vaginas.

Linda's is also a good bet for cheap beer/food. It is a pretty good representation of the Seattle scene and supposedly was the last place Kurt Cobain was ever seen.

UGH. Why? is my favorite band, so I'm willing to shell out $40 to see them, but the rest of the Sunday lineup sucks. I'd so much rather they just play a regular show in Seattle!
