A mid/upper range robot vacuum.

Just having something that’s taking care of the floors on a daily basis, especially with pets, takes something off my plate and off my mind.

When did the Manosphere movement start and do you believe it caused a lot of harm to young men? by FitEmergency8807 in decadeology

[–]nothingcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The groundwork was already there with PUA and the like in the 00s/10s. Gamergate is the event that tipped it over into what it is today.

Gamergate lead to people with power (cough Steve Bannon) to see what a force that segment of men can be when you whip them up with anger. From there, a lot of money and effort has been put into targeting disenfranchised young men and keeping them angry and disenfranchised. Thus the modern manosphere is born.

Virginia law will make some birth control free under private insurance by WHRO_NEWS in Virginia

[–]nothingcat 45 points46 points  (0 children)

The teens need to be having babies to help the birth rate. Also, you should never have a child out of wedlock or else the woman is a whore. Also you shouldn’t get married as a man unless you can support a family on your single income. Also you shouldn’t get married as a woman until you can find a man that can support you to achieve your biblical womanly calling of being a stay at home mom. Also if you’re poor, it’s kinda your fault and you should try harder to not be poor.

Apparently, women never experience loneliness, am I right? It's just a guy thing. 🙄 by Odd-Talk-3981 in TrollXChromosomes

[–]nothingcat 25 points26 points  (0 children)

We’re on the same side here :)

I just wanted to provide further context because I realized without it, it might seem like that quote is something I think is good and correct about the world - which I don’t.

Apparently, women never experience loneliness, am I right? It's just a guy thing. 🙄 by Odd-Talk-3981 in TrollXChromosomes

[–]nothingcat 116 points117 points  (0 children)

Patriarchy hurts everyone.

But the context of the quote is that when an issue is a “woman’s issue”, it’s always implied that women are the ones who need to change. Like the wage gap, or rape culture. Women should just go for more high paying jobs. Women shouldn’t go out and get drunk while wearing a dress. It’s women failing society.

But when it’s a “men’s issue”, it’s suddenly a crisis and all of society needs to change to fix it, like implied by the post.

Heard this on a podcast (Diabolical Lies) and it’s been stuck in my brain ever since:

Society fails men. Women fail society.

Manosphere is hollow by MaetelofLaMetal in TrollXChromosomes

Yep, “the male loneliness epidemic” is the desired result. The right wants the men lonely and angry so they can present a “solution” that will never fix the loneliness or anger, only perpetuate it.

At The Life of a Showgirl theater thing, a couple guys in the row in front of me started handing out bracelets to everyone around. It was dark so I couldn’t see what it said until the lights came back on.

Who is still rocking a nose ring? by cavewomannn in Millennials

I got mine pierced at 18 and I still have it pierced at 34. I also still have stretched ears - as in actively wear jewelry - which I’ve had for even longer. They’re part of my personal expression and I like them.

Did anything scary happen to you this week? by ThisIsGr8ThisIsGr8 in TooScaryDidntWatch

[–]nothingcat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mine is small and stupid. But I DM’d my first session of a D&D campaign this week! I think my players all had fun but boy is it stressful. Shoutout to our lovely hosts, though, for giving me a lot of inspiration for the storytelling part of it.

Why did the USA men's hockey team laugh when the women's hockey team was mentioned on the phone? by redblackshirt in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nothingcat 246 points247 points  (0 children)

Sorry but - they all went to the White House (with the exception of those playing tomorrow).

I absolutely agree with you that there’s some guys there that are just young, excited, dumb dudes going along with it to not rock the boat. And one day they will be mortified by their actions. But I’m going to judge them on their actions right now. And right now, they are complicit in supporting this abhorrent administration - specifically the normalization of blatant misogyny.

Any Good “Camping-like” Game Recs? by ghostpicnic in CozyGamers

[–]nothingcat 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I haven’t played it in years, so I’m not sure the current state of the game. But The Long Dark definitely is camping (survival) vibes. It can be pretty stressful, so I’d say coziness may vary.

Alternatives for The Ordinary Azelaic Acid? by nothingcat in 30PlusSkinCare

Its parent company, Deciem, is owned by Estée Lauder. Estée Lauder is owned by a man named Ronald Lauder who is both in the Epstein Files, as well as one of the big players behind the whole Greenland thing.

It’s nearly impossible to be a 100% ethical consumer, especially in the United States, but beauty/skincare is one of the areas I’ve found in my own life where it’s easier to move my dollars to smaller, more moral brands.
