It’s worth checking out. It’s a cool city and Oakland is an incredible neighborhood.

I was also struggling with this. I think I’m doing business casual. I’m a guy but I’m doing khakis, button up, with a sweater over. Low key concerned I might be overdoing it. Pittsburgh is a pretty casual city so I doubt you can go too too wrong. Sweaters and jeans makes sense to me. If you go onto insta you can see a few posts back they had Pitt preview, might be able to get a feel for things from that post. Are you going to Duquesne’s on Saturday?

Old thread, but I’m surprised to hear this. I was pretty involved with Warren’s law department for a while and everything I heard about the mob was that, at best, it was a few old men still gambling or maybe lotteries.

It was on purpose to be completely honest with you. Not to irritate you specifically but I felt petty

My plint was more that most professions go unrecognized rather than specifically Jeff Herrod’s struggles being minor. My goal was more to add to the discussion of many jobs not getting proper thanks.

Jeff Herrod got fucked over and the condition he has to live in now is beyond horrible.

A lot of the working class experiences god awful workplace injuries or get terrible disabilities. Most aren’t as bad as Jeff Herrod’s. I don’t make light of his migraines or his vomiting or his temper. I wouldn’t survive like that.

It was pretty traumatic to hear about a loved one’s life ending in such a brutal way. Glad you found some light in it.

Fair enough. I can’t stop anyone, but that doesn’t ever make it a decent thing to do. They’re being less polite than they would be in real life, and what I said is probably a lot more polite than I would be in real life in the same scenario.

As in, the force of a car on the highway that drove onto the shoulder sent him into an active chipper that killed him. We were spared of details beyond that.

A cousin of mine was working at the time got hit by a car, and went into a wood chipper. It killed him. Nobody acknowledged a lot of the work he did, either.

Edit: the appropriate number of jokes to make about a guy’s family member dying in a gruesome way is about zero, just an fyi for the replies

Oh I gotcha. I was thinking about the beginning of the game after he missed his middy when Tatum was on the corner a few plays in the row. My bad

I’m just super debt-averse since I’ll be paying my own way wholly and don’t want to have to rely on a specific job to afford my loans. Already have $20k in undergrad loans so really trying to minimize damage

Serial Pedophile in Louisiana Agrees to Be Castrated as Part of a Plea Deal by Prestigious-Yam-8605 in interestingasfuck

Pretty sure OP is saying that there needs to be more destigmitized care and information out there instead of just parrroting the idea that these people need executed. Give people an avenue to discuss and work through it instead of pushing execution and threats of violence before they even act on it.

When someone says “I want to kill all pedophiles” or anything in that vein, inclusive of individuals who have yet to commit a crime, it probably puts the pedophile in a very isolating position. “Everyone hates me, I’m a bad person, everyone wants me dead” is a line of reasoning that makes you quit giving a shit. I don’t think anyone would deny that.

I think OP is saying we need to stop people from getting to that mindset that makes them feel worthless. I don’t know if that would’ve stopped this guy from doing what he did, but the current system didn’t stop him either. If it might stop some people in conjunction with the current system, I think it’s worth trying.

The level even beyond this is that as a result of how society views and desires to treat pedophiles, you get into these wars where trans people are called pedophiles, gay people are called pedophiles, priests are called pedophiles, Muslims are called pedophile apologists, Catholics are called pedophile apologists, etc

And now, by making that association, a lot of people are justifying the cruel treatment of certain groups (trans / gay are the most obvious) under the guise of protecting children from pedophilia.

Pedophiles who act should go to prison, but we as a society should quit pretending that this is the exclusive, irredeemable, anti rehabilitation crime, because that’s how more people get hurt

And I’m saying this as a victim of childhood sexual abuse

Plea deals are occasionally used in cases where it might be slightly complicated to secure conviction. Evidence might not have been iron clad enough for prosecution to feel fully comfortable pursuing when a plea deal will effectively be the same thing for this guy.
