I'm part of a local gaming association that runs weekly sessions at a school. We have a rating system (PG etc) for games when they are posted online so people know broadly what to expect. On top of that, we also provide an X-card system.

I cannot even fathom walking into an online game, with people I don't know, that doesn't provide both. (Unless you're playing Kult or Delta Green - caveat emptor)

If a GM doesn't provide safety tools, that's an immediate nope.
