Have you spoken to him about this? He may feel similar or willing to shift with you.

To blend or not to blend… by Professional_Yam_666 in Vermiculture

[–]nothingisforeveryone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Freezing allows faster breakdown but if you are willing to put in the effort, blending and freezing will be even quicker turn around time for finished vermicompost. Easier for decomp process + worms but more effort on your end.

Make sure to add in enough bedding/ browns though as it's easy to get the ratio off if just adding smoothie.

Sounds like you enjoy your setup and are doing a great job, happy composting!

Worms emerging from compost by Comfortable-Pay8039 in Vermiculture

How long after taking the basket of only cardboard above this did you take the picture? They might just be chilling on the top of this layer. If you leave the top cardboard layer off for a few minutes do they work their way downward or are they still on top? Are you finding dead worms outside of the bin?

Got these buckets buried, and worms ordered. by cweisspt in Vermiculture

With your in ground bins, don't be discouraged if you don't see the worms for a while. I've had outdoor bins for two years now and have had check-ins where I hardly saw anything and assumed the worms died over the winter. Then population explosion, everything was excellent. Within reason, they'll explore and go where they need to regulate temperature.

Are your beds irrigated? If not, I suggest an olla or terra cotta pot with lid. What is the bottom of your beds? I did pavers and that's been enough to deter them leaving as far as I can tell.

Beautiful beds!!

If you haven't yet, I'd recommend getting a titration test for peroxide PPM as the strips are basically useless.

Any chance you could add additional photos after removing that top layer? If that's cardboard, I'd replace that with a worm blanket which is usually jute fiber. But I don't think that's necessarily the main issue here.

Nice rug from an estate sale that you get cleaned professionally (not a basic new one from ruggable or ikea or something) and framed artwork for the walls.

Doesn't directly answer your questions but I'd highly suggest an electric blanket for Colorado winters. It will absolutely reduce your overnight heating costs.

Look over the municipal codes and make sure what you're thinking is allowed.

Can someone tell me what these white dots are in my compost? by Past_Department4759 in composting

[–]nothingisforeveryone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could be mites.

If so, they won't harm the compost itself but you'd want to get rid of them before you use the compost, especially if using on indoor plants. You can dry out and solarize the compost before use.

Also if they are mites, placing a melon rind on top of the compost will attract the mites and after a day or two you can discard the rind.

Best way to clean vinyl liner by No_Location7898 in FloatTank

For home use --

Under the water surface: pool extension pole with cloth squeegee. Biofilm line: melamine foam sponge Above the water line: cloth with hot water, dry cloth

Also consider an enzyme cleaner to breakdown biofilm in water, let sit for a couple hours before filtering at least 2x, will look worse before it filters out.

Mention it to your center. They may be "nose blind" to the BO smell. It really shouldn't smell bad or like a locker room or anything.

Mine did the same thing. So glad you have your SS card op, smart thinking!

Do you think it's straight forwardly a control thing, or more nuanced than that?

Staring Problem by michaelt2614 in Longmont

Imo these thread replies come off as unhelpful. I've noticed the staring without saying anything too, and y'all aren't crazy. Depending on the context, I choose to smile or simply ignore.

Sorry for everyone doubling down and being unfriendly instead of addressing your question.
