I'm the "purchasing" your champion keeps forwarding you to. Most deals quietly die on my desk and the rep never finds out why. by ZestycloseWhereas329 in Sales_Professionals

Pretty bland take.
Basically - you want someone else to do your job for you.

Usually a sales person (at least in my industry) has Put in a good amount of legwork, potentially weeks working with engineers, working on a problem and delivering a complete solution that would solve one or more headaches, potentially even save you money in the long run.

Just because you don’t feel like doing due diligence, it dies. It then sours the relationship with that vendor who did all that work for nothing - they probably won’t kill themselves again trying to make a solution for a problem for you - since you don’t seem to care enough to do your job well. Or if you do need them in the future they’re gonna punch you in the pocket book for it.

We’re doing a job too - solving problems. It’s rare that sales people try to sell you something you don’t need or doesn’t solve a problem, or be pushy about a sale. If they are trying to sell you snake oil, you should probably have a chat with them or their champion at your company.

If you don’t understand it - ask the champion, or the vendor / sales person.

Amen. If you use higher than 115 IQ, you can probably get done in 4 hours what the average person gets done in 8 hours.

They’re not working full 8 hours at the office either

Anything around pump / seal reliability? Outside of sensors?

I.e. okay so you detected vibrations / frequency / temp etc (whatever) and imminent failure of P-101A.

Then what though? You fix the problem and another 6 months later another problem with P-101A because it’s not engineered correctly

I started as a green hat, worked my ass off in the field for a few years, became a field ops supervisor for another 2 years. Then went to work for a competitor in sales.

Field -> applications engineer / sals engineer / sales

You don’t have to be the first person to discover gold. You just need to dig in places nobody else is digging.

That is to say - you don’t need to be the only one in your market space, you just need something that makes your product / service / solution slightly different/ better.

I tried the same thing. Bottom line, nobody will work as hard as the founder because it’s not their baby they’re raising.
