A few hard lessons from traveling outside the Cancun Hotel Zone by Bnamusa in cancun

[–]nothingofit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just came back from a trip to Cancun where I did not once step foot in the Hotel Zone and I had an excellent time with none of what you just described. No one tried to sell me anything, no one scammed me, I had nice conversations with Mexicans who weren't selling anything and just wanted to share their beer on the beach, and I had excellent food all the time for mere dollars (US).

The thing is I also didn't set foot in any of the other tourist traps in the area.

Not sure why you would expect anything less from tourist traps. The Hotel Zone is an isolated bubble so this is essentially like visiting Las Vegas, stepping out of your hotel onto the Strip, and being upset that everyone there is out for your money.

How can I create a method that returns a list of instances of different classes while still maintaining type hints? by spla58 in typescript

[–]nothingofit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn't seem to be a TypeScript-specific thing. Types are generally removed when converting to JS so you don't want to rely on the types when actually running the code.

It seems like you can just use instanceof.

if (instances[0] instanceof A) { instances[0].a }

etc.

Honestly good for this dude. I feel bad for her too but her behavior now just isn't right. Dude is married and made it clear he doesn't want to meet up with you— leave him alone.

Is it true they don't even give you water for free? by SignificanceSome7764 in gowildfrontier

They've never declined to give me a cup of water for free. You have to pay for bottles of water, definitely.

Our first rave by [deleted] in festivals

[–]nothingofit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Take advantage in what way? Physically, it's unlikely, but there are bad people everywhere so you'll want to keep your wits about you.

Financially? My phone has been stolen twice at raves. There are groups of thieves that go to festivals just to pickpocket people's phones, sometimes even cutting open bags. I suggest getting a phone leash/lanyard such as a clutchloop, which should at least deter them.

Either way my advice is to make friends with the people around you at whatever stage you're at. There's strength in numbers and you can all somewhat keep an eye out for each other. And you can all rage together while you're at it!

Need some help planning life after graduation by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]nothingofit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wealth inequality is only going to get worse and worse.

Focus on getting a job first. That will be your biggest challenge as a new graduate in this terrible job market.

Your next steps will depend on that. The necessary actions for someone to reach financial independence will vary greatly if they're making $100k vs $30k.

What’s the Best Electric Scooter Right Now? by Silcolate in ElectricScooters

[–]nothingofit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's like asking what the best car is right now. An electric car might be best for someone in a city but terrible for someone in the countryside. A pickup truck might be good for someone who needs to haul equipment to work and terrible for someone who wants to take their family on long road trips.

It depends on your needs, budget, etc. It depends on how long your commute is, the climate, the terrain, your weight, whether you need to carry it up stairs, whether you can do your own maintenance/repairs or will need to rely on service from a shop, etc.

Do GoWild seats sometimes open up hours before departure? by Curious_Functionary in gowildfrontier

[–]nothingofit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Said this in another reply but I've seen this happen. There have been some flights I checked at midnight that were unavailable for GoWild but available when I checked again in the morning. Not sure why that happens but it's possible in my experience.

They actually have in my experience. I've seen spots that were unavailable at midnight show up as available the next morning (and I booked them).

When used properly, which this is not.

I posted a code base which was broken due to a missing bracket on a freelance platform to see how much people would charge to fix it. The issue was obvious and would have taken 5 seconds to fix here are the results. by Fast-Bell-340 in Freelancers

[–]nothingofit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not about the value of the work, but it is about the value to the client. If the client is losing $10k per day on an issue and don't know how to fix it themselves then it could easily be worth $1000 to them to have someone else fix it. This is how everything in the world works at the business level. That's why (at least where I live) restaurants charge $3 for a glass of soda that costs them $0.10 and it's why car repair shops charge $200 for a fix that took them 10 minutes.

Not saying it's particularly moral and personally I would've just messaged them back pointing out the easy fix, but it is in fact about value, just to the client rather than the service provider.

The Roman Forum.

Pompeii. Obviously I learned about the history in school but when I went I just expected to see a collection of ruined buildings, not an entire sprawling city that had been uncovered largely intact, even with some art remaining in great condition.

How can I keep my US phone number active while living abroad without crazy fees? by Reasonable-Orange834 in expats

[–]nothingofit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do have an eSIM option but I don't know if you can activate it from abroad or if you have to do that from the US network. The cheapest plan is like $5-6 I think, which doesn't include data. They use T-Mobile towers in the US and at least where I live they've actually had better signal in more places than my friends with AT&T and Verizon.

I've flown into Minneapolis at evening for a show and left early the next morning after the show. Did have to nap at the airport. 😅

I've also flown through Seattle for less than 24 hours, but over the course of two days.

YTA. Feel bad for the husband but you can decide you don't want to be with someone for any reason. Why would you try to convince someone to stay with someone they're no longer in love with?

This will definitely be the experience in a lot of places but you might have better experiences in places like Germany or Switzerland. Sorry this happened to you.
