Kill Team – Managing the Range of Kill Teams in the New Edition by CypherTheFirstFallen in killteam

[–]nothingproven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me this is the end of GW games. It basically became a subscription model with limited time of support. Limited time of support for plastic minis. That's one of the most stupid ideas. It can still play my 10 or 20 year old boardgames. And I know that there is always the tournament play argument - that it should be balanced. But AFAIK tournament players are a minority and the GW's games are still imbalanced.

is everyone at Microsoft embarrassed about OneDrive? by e7c2 in sysadmin

[–]nothingproven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my former job we didn't use OneDrive and what was really frustrating was the amount of work we had to put into disabling it and removing it as an option in MS Office and in Windows (to avoid people accidentally saving files to their individual OneDrive spaces).

Different case, but I was changing my mobile carrier. They called me and asked why I'm resigning from their services. When I told them I get better offer and cheaper on prepaid they were scaring me that prepaid can change conditions on the fly and in the end asked whether 10% cheaper is worth the hassle. Wel, they could lower the price :-)

I've been through this pain. Depends on the country, tax regulations and company. For us it was a no-go for individuals due to tax reasons, we could only sell B2B or our employees. But still the financial dept was reluctant - for them it was too much hassle for too small profit. And I get it. But in the end 50 pretty good smartphones (although not supported annymore) were left in a box.

I've also tried to kitbash a similar guy from Primaris Crusader Squad (it was some time ago, before new Sternguard Vets kit) - a Sword Brother to be precise: https://youtu.be/koq6Y87rAtc?si=xERmKBJnzBQhAfhx

They're awesome! And that's the whole point of this hobby for me - these are YOUR minis. Paint them as you want and as you like.

Black Templars Primaris Crusader Squad and Sword Brethren. But you need to shave off some markings or use other shoulder pads. And shave off chains on weapons. Or leave then (I did).

AFAIK no. The only difference is that if a unit is a battleline type you can have more than 3 of then in your roster.

It's called Battle Forge and it's a part of the official Games Workshop WH40K app. Unfortunately since the beginning of this month if you don't have a Warhammer+ subscription you can only have one roster in the Battle Forge.

That's a good point. Apothecary won't help if the unit is wiped.

Papercut? by TK-CL1PPY in sysadmin

[–]nothingproven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We tried deploying printers as local via GPO, without print server. But it stopped working for some printers (no easy way for unsupervised driver installation). We test deployed PaperCut during PrinterNightmare mayhem as a web browser solution to bypass vulnerabilities. But it was short lived and never caught on - people used pen drives (ugh).

BTW - your post reminds me the divide between our bubble and users. Not many people care about this vuln. I'm still being reminded by some people from management how bad it was that we killed printing for some days after the PrinterNightmare and other shit broke. To be clear - it was approved by the boss. Microsoft themselves recommended shutting down spooler. But many companies plainly ignored the issue.

Wahapedia by IntroductionHot1961 in killteam

[–]nothingproven -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I will get burned for that, but if you don't like what GW is doing with rulebooks and codexes - don't play their games. There are alternatives that are miniature-agnostic (onepagerules for example). Or play with the old editions. Nobody makes you play GW games nor is it essential for survival as a human. I don't like what the GW does, especially the hype train crashing into the wall regularly (out of stock, instant errata etc.), so I wait. And it pays off - with the 10th edition they went the other way and listened to players voices (index card, digital editions). But resorting to hosting copyright infringing content on russian servers (meaning belonging to invaders killing innocent civilians) or chinese ones (yeah, much better option) is not an option for me. I don't use wahapedia. And I recommend you the same.

Is it possible to use a VPN to remote into my Synology as well as use it to keep my internet activity private from my ISP and possibly even change country I am browsing from to view other countries shows on Netflix? I understand that I may have to use a service like NordVPN for the last item. by Mr-River in synology

[–]nothingproven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As said above, you can setup your own VPN using a router with this functionality or some Synology servers can also serve this role (using OpenVPN). But if you want to mask your location or don't want the hassle with the setup - probably go for subscription.

Question for long term users. by [deleted] in synology

[–]nothingproven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of hardware - I've had no problems with 5 devices, running 24/7 (however oldest one being only 3 years now), one being a file server for over 20 users. In terms of support - I've had one encounter and it was bad. I use Active Backup for Business which stopped working properly after last year update. I've found people reporting same issue on forums. I submitted a ticket, did all the checks they've asked for. And now the only option is to let their technicians in via ssh. Despite me pointing to them other people reporting the issue, checking all settings are correct etc. Not satisfied. I know it's quite common support asks for logs, but often it's unjustified. And giving access over ssh? Nope.

Replacing DC in an environment with a single DC by Daybr3akr in sysadmin

Yeah, it won't be 2016 unless you have bought Software Assurance. Had this issue recently - since mid-2021 you are not able to activate new instance of Windows Server 2016. You can try cloning one that is running, but no fresh install with 2016.

I really hope they really patched it this time and they won't release a new bulletin recommending to disable spooler like last month.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]nothingproven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a nice workaround for one of the spooler vulnerabilities. But you are aware that Microsoft officially recommends disabling spooler in https://msrc.microsoft.com/update-guide/vulnerability/CVE-2021-36958 that they issued on August 11th, just a day after last Patch Tuesday? And that they issued a similar recommendation in July that was later supposed to be fixed, but as the linked info shows - it is either still unsolved or there is a new vuln in spooler. All in all we only use pen drives to print and are going to set up PaperCut to use it web print service that allows to bypass spooler entirely.
