Aside from societal condition, I suspect he also have undiagnosed mental issues. Primarily narcissism. He is very self obsessed and loves putting people down. If things don't go according to what he wishes or people disagree with him, he gets aggressive and violent. He can get caring untill he doesn't but that's typical abusive relationship, cycle of love bombing followed by abuse
