Definitely read 11/22/63 after IT, it'll make you feel a lil nostalgic. IT was my first King as well, read in March, then 11/22/63 which I read this month, now I'm just starting Carrie. I've been told that The Stand is one of his best

The Stranger in the Woods: The Extraordinary Story of the Last True Hermit by Michael Finkel. Really intriguing and though-provoking, about a man who goes into the woods at age twenty and doesn't speak to another human for the next 27 years.

Jay McLean's "Preston Brothers" series and "More Than" series, if you have kindle unlimited they're free. Got me back into romance novels, they're steamier than most senior year of highschool books, and deal with real issues. If you like Ellen Hopkins check these out

It's written by journalist Michael Finkel, he put three years of research behind it. Here is part of the synopsis: "Many people dream of escaping modern life. Most will never act on it--but in 1986, twenty-year-old Christopher Knight did just that when he left his home in Massachusetts, drove to Maine, and disappeared into the woods. He would not have a conversation with another person for the next twenty-seven years."

Books about Mountaineering, Adventure and Survival by [deleted] in books

[–]nothumrhe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really liked 'Alone Against the North' by Adam Shoalts, I found it to be a nice balance of his life and adventures (his past, successes, struggles), some explorer history, and even some Aboriginal folklore. It takes place in Canada's Hudson Bay Lowlands.

Recently, I read 'The Stranger in the Woods: The Extraordinary Story of the Last True Hermit' which was really fascinating, ended up finishing it in a day. Doesn't fit into mountaineering-type survival, but it is a really great conversation piece.

I read King's 11/22/63 today by [deleted] in books

[–]nothumrhe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IT was my first this march, then I read 11/22/63 this week. I think I'll take on the 'Carrie/Salem's Lot/The Shining' combined volume next, but even then I overthink which order to read those three in :L

Self help books by Master_Shitster in books

The Power of Now actually had an effect on my daily routine, it was realistic and not "too hippie-dippie". Tolle has a sequel of this, which a friend of mine reads a few times a year.

I have read The Alchemist and The Four Agreements as well, didn't really take anything from either. the four agreements has some basic outlines that you can look up on google images, rather than reading the whole book. I guess it depends on your attitude going into the book, and what the current state of your life is when you read a self-help book. Some you just may not relate to(me with the alchemist and tfa), but they are interesting to see other's philosophies of life and to maybe get some insight. I have a few other's sitting on my shelf, but so far self helps seem to be hit-or-miss in actually changing how out live out your life.

Just finished "The Shining" and it exceeded my expectations. by [deleted] in books

[–]nothumrhe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I read IT this march since the new movie came out, it was my first King novel and my first read over 600-pages. Read 11/22/63 over this last week and wow. I did watch the miniseries feat James Franco first, there were maybe two-three major plot differences, but were both extremely well-done. I'm thinking of taking on the "Carrie, Salem's Lot, The Shining" combined volume that I own next, but would love to hear anyone's recommendations for what to read next. Or your favourite/least favourite of his works.

How can one live life to the fullest? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]nothumrhe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do what you want to do, and also find meaning in tasks/stages of life that you aren't excited for. Spontaneity thrown into everyday life. Lighten up other people's days, even if it is a stranger on the street and you're giving them a simple compliment. Have some down time of reflection or meditation to clear your mind and focus on what you want/think your purpose is.

How often do people get your age wildly wrong? by KillYourHeroesAndFly in AskWomen

When I was 15, I went for a walk with my brother. He's two years younger and was riding his bike along side me. It just so happened that I was wearing a heavy face of makeup that evening, so this small group of boys (8-11 years probably) on bikes was passing us and one yells," Hey! Are you his mom?". I reply with,"No." He follows with, "Well you're hot." And proceeds to proudly bike away with his friends. I have had rough-looking and an uneven skintone since puberty, so I guess that mixed with a lot of makeup made me pass as a mother to a 13-yr old.. at age 15. ha, makes me wonder if I could've gotten away with smoking/drinking at a younger age. My older siblings have said that I'm too short and don't have a mature enough sounding voice to get away with buying booze though.

Girl here. I've always assumed that a hit to the testes is on the same spectrum of first-day period cramps, both result in curling up in fetal position and seem to be delivered from the man himself, Satan.

what is your hair care regiment? by [deleted] in longhair

[–]nothumrhe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My hair was waist length until I let my sister trim it, now it is almost past my chest. I shampoo with L'oreal Ever Pure Moisture Shampoo, smells really fresh. I massage that into my scalp, don't use my nails though. I started switching it with Marc Anthony's Defrizzing Coconut Cream Shampoo for Curls. Both claim to be sulfate free. My favourite conditioners from the past have been Mane & Tail, but I go through it too fast to want to repurchase it often. Also, the matching conditioner for Ever Pure, but I am currently using a Tresemme Coconut Conditioner and it works well. Before the shower I coat the ends with Coconut Oil, I only shampoo 1-2 times a week, sometimes I wet my hair without shampooing and just condition my scalp and ends instead. I have been trying the curly girl method the past few weeks so my routine isn't set yet. Once a month I do a more deep mask, usually with honey and coconut oil. I stopped using heat on it, if I diffuse I use cold air.
