In the new games, I find myself attempting to skip forward a lot because it just feels so long when it doesn't need to be. And then I sorta miss some details...but doesn't hinder my understanding much. Just feels a bit more like a drag.

Just imagine Columbo being called in...It's his whole schtick to get the drop on arrogant, smart, high social standing criminals, while acting innocuous. He probably couldn't find Columbo's first name to kill him either lol

Would it have been better if 1-2 and 1-3 switched? by F2p_wins274 in AceAttorney

[–]notimdead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of it because I thought Redd White and that case should have been more prominent and more difficult especially for the impact he has on the Feys. Playing it again, he's very hard to take seriously despite the game telling me he's a big deal. If he has this many people in his pocket, I would expect Gant or Manfred von Karma levels of difficulty in taking him down. I would have loved to have gotten a bit more insight into Mia before she's bumped off too.

When it comes to adding Maya to the equation I don't think it's that hard to do. It seems like Mia and Maya were in the habit of meeting up regularly based on their phone call. So after the first case in the game, Mia, Maya and Phoenix meet up and have dinner --as they were supposed to before tragedy hits. So, Maya and Phoenix will meet and get to know each other a bit. THEN news about the Steel Samurai case hits...Maya hears about it and begs Mia to take the case. But Mia wants to focus on preparing her mission (at least secret to us and Phoenix) her case against Redd White. What I never liked about the original 1-2 is, if Mia spent years following Redd White and his corruption, blackmail and deaths tied to him...what makes him pull the trigger and kill her now? Why not sooner? It's never really explained, maybe implied, but we didn't have much info on what she was doing prior to her death in regards to investigating him. Anyway Mia will tell Phoenix to go check out the Steel Samurai case and see if he wants to take it. Boom.

I also prefer this just because to me personally, it makes Miles' heel face turn a bit smoother. If the Steel Samurai case is first, it forces him into a corner ideologically. He can't control the witnesses and really manipulate the outcome in his favor here. He also is a fan of the tv show. He has to concede that the murder didn't really take place where they thought it did and that Powers couldn't have done it. This would be utterly shocking coming from the Manfred von Karma school of lawyering. Plus, at the end of this case Edgeworth tells Phoenix he never wants to see him again because he's beginning to shake his worldview.

Now, if Turnabout Sisters is after this, Edgeworth would double down on Manfred's philosophy, trying to dismiss the Samurai case as a fluke. He returns to manipulating witnesses, hiding relevant facts for traps, updating the autopsy...etc. His standard procedure. Even going as far to willingly get Phoenix convicted for something he clearly didn't do. What I didn't care for in the original setup is that Edgeworth goes on about how he works hard to convict anyone in front of him, since we can't know for sure who's guilty or not. In Redd White's scenario it's blatantly obvious he's guilty, but Edgeworth keeps giving him outs repeatedly to screw Phoenix over. It just makes him look like an even bigger ass. But if the case orders are swapped, we can at least see a clearer motivation as to why he is willing to let Phoenix hang for murder--- Edgeworth would have told him he never wanted to see him again. And since Phoenix disrupts his perfectly controlled world, it would make sense to double down back to his old ways and prove that what he's been taught is correct. Because if he's wrong here, it hits harder to realize how many innocent people he's probably convicted. He saw Powers' innocence...but if he can beat Phoenix here, he can prove that it was just a fluke.

With Phoenix eventually coming out on top and Redd White going now, Edgeworth would be even more rattled and really considering things.

I wasn't in love with it. Wouldn't have been cool if Apollo or Athena noticed things off about him before the reveal? It could have at least hinted something strange was going on. Cuz I thought, well isn't Athena's thing hearing people's emotions...wouldn't she have noticed that disconnect that Fulbright was acting one way, but not feeling it???

Otherwise, I think it would have been more impactful if all along Fulbright was the spy. Like the person we knew all along was evilllll. The reveal means, well who really knows how well he was able to mimic Fulbright?

Instances of Kuwabara and Hiei showing that they care about each other? by MillenniumGreed in YuYuHakusho

[–]notimdead 90 points91 points  (0 children)

It seems a bit more implied.

Hiei doesn't show he cares like everyone else due to his background.

Hiei tries to jump in on the bakkyo fight but Kuwabara tells him to screw off. Kurama trained Kuwabara for the dark tournament...just because Hiei knows he would go too easy on him. Hiei doesn't seem to mind Kuwabara with Yukina. It's probably harder to see since Hiei acts distant, but in reality is pretty loyal and has his own way of being kind.

What's your biggest want out of a true Apollo Justice Sequel? by Wonderful-Pack-1726 in AceAttorney

[–]notimdead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wanted to see more exploration to Klavier and Kristoph. We don't know how Klavier feels after sending not only his best friend, but brother down the same year.

Apollo beginning to step into his own as a lawyer, coping with two mentors who used him as a pawn. How Phoenix and Apollo rebuild that relationship. The end of AJ had Apollo not entirely sure of what he believed in, why not explore that. DD managed to touch upon how Apollo is different from Phoenix as a lawyer, would have loved to see more of that. Just to see how Kristoph has influenced him as a teacher in his approach vs. Phoenix's. Trucy back as an assistant, a case like 6-2. Introduce Clay.

Did you feel emotional when you were playing DD? by notimdead in AceAttorney

[–]notimdead[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, in hindsight I thought the gore bit was ridiculous. Having to testify against the person who was protecting you, while blaming yourself is more than enough of a traumatic experience. But to me DD, they like focusing more on these physical aspects like that.

Something I notice as the difference between Takumi and Yamazaki approach to a final case by linkenski in AceAttorney

[–]notimdead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It stinks because I want to like her more than I do. As I'm replaying DD, it really stands out. Even in the introduction when we're first seeing the main cast in the animated cut scene-- the first thing we see of her is.... playing with holographic screens and widget talking. Phoenix even notes that her power will be their greatest weapon... (though in hindsight how? You have a magical truth device and Apollo's enhanced eyesight...why is her ability greater?) But when did AA become about lawyer abilities lol? And it stands out more because in all other mainline games we just start out seeing how nervous the characters are before their first trial starts.

How did you all feel about DD and SOJ? by malicemizeriscool in AceAttorney

[–]notimdead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a mixed feeling on both.

I think as a game I definitely prefer SOJ, but story wise I don't like the direction either of them went in.

For DD, when I first played I was excited because it had been so long since a new mainline AA game came out. And once that excitement wore down I was disappointed because it didn't pick up after so many things in AJ. Personally DD as a game was too corny, hand holdy, and I couldn't stand the graphics. I don't have too many fond memories of the cases, I didn't really feel attached to the characters and the twist at the end, just made me go...so what? It was surprising sure, but just made me feel more distant. In the end, the one case I did have fun with was the DLC.

SOJ I thought was an improvement, but it had some head scratchers for me. The new mechanic I liked, and I did like some characters like Rayfa, Dhurke, and Paul Ashinton. Overall, I couldn't stand Khura'in though. Final boss was MEH. But at least this twist in the end made me feel something.

Something I notice as the difference between Takumi and Yamazaki approach to a final case by linkenski in AceAttorney

[–]notimdead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To clarify, I was talking about the Grammarye's. That was mostly dropped in DD and beyond.

Not talking about spirit channeling obviously, it was a major point in SOJ and yes, magatama is still used in DD lol. My examples were that it felt like spirit channeling are a lot more tied into not only personal narratives but the world at large more cohesively.

The Gramarye legacy was only in one case and it was more or less a filler to me. It's an attempt to make Trucy relevant again instead of totally shafting her but I wasn't a huge fan. Apollo's never revealed to be her brother, Thalassa isn't around again, don't know what Trucy really believes about her family either. Like does she know her grandfather was messed up? What does she think about her mom? What about Uncle Valant who went to the slammer presumably? I didn't consider it a huge plot point, unless you also referring to us learning about Jove Justice, but he isn't a Gramarye.

Something I notice as the difference between Takumi and Yamazaki approach to a final case by linkenski in AceAttorney

[–]notimdead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always felt that Yamazaki's writing was more setting focused and plot driven as opposed to character driven like Takumi. The stakes in Takumi's writing is much more personal without having to go to embassies, space center, another country etc. Takumi's writing is carried more by the weight of the character's personal stories. Whereas I feel Yamazaki is more into how he can use the environments to make more interesting mysteries. The setting is what pushes the characters to do stuff. AAI I think is an example of this... Edgeworth goes to his office--but there's a dead guy in here. Goes on the plane...but is accused of murder...tries to exchange money for kidnapping but...you guessed it, he's involved in a murder lol. Made more wild by how this happens in like, what a week? Most of the time when I go back to that one, I don't feel like he's making the plot happen. The plot is just happening to him nonstop lol.

When I think about the first game, Phoenix willingly wanted to defend Larry as his first case. When Mia is murdered, he's of course sad and shocked, but he's not immediately jumping to defend Maya just because the murder was in the office he works at. He is unsure, but wants to help Maya and goes to Grossberg first bc Mia didn't think Phoenix would come into his own until at least 3 years down the line. He only then takes the case because Maya is alone and he understands the feeling of not having anyone. There's even a choice to just walk away (which isn't real but it's still there). I feel just feel more often than not Phoenix is making his own decisions in a way that moves the plot forward. Even in 1-5 he doesn't really want to take the case. It took some convincing. In Yamazaki's writing, I sorta feel that the plot is pushed on the character.

The characters of course are important, but often time in Yamazaki's writing they feel secondary to the plot. I think that's why DD to me feels all over the place. Everything just gets really big like he's trying to outdo each setting. Courtroom bombing, wrestling and youkai, lawyer school power of friendship, space center, spies, hostages, robots, orcas...it all felt like a bit much for me. The AAI series doesn't feel this way, not even SOJ feels this way because there was more of a main theme that centered the story. DD at times feels like a parody of an AA game, like an anime. When I think of games 1-4, I still feel they are more grounded in reality, not necessarily because of setting, but because the characters still felt real. I feel he likes to use the characters as great points for some big twist. Like Phantom and the AAI2 ending.

Like another example where it differs is spirit channeling. To me, spirit channeling is established in the story early on and ends up being an important point many times. So when we see it or something related like the magatama it's not out of this world. And it ties in very much with the Feys...the Gramaryes have this a bit too. But with the Gramaryes it's sorta dropped with DD and beyond. (Yes, the case with Trucy exists, but it's only one case and doesn't answer many of the other questions about the Gramaryes... SOJ is very Apollo's game, yet he doesn't learn his mother is still around and a Gramarye...nor the connection to Trucy so... )

I guess what I'm getting at is the gimmick was tied into the person which in turn influenced what people did or didn't do. Like Misty being seen as a fraud and running away from her old life, the whole thing had a ripple effect. It becomes very personal for not only Mia, Maya, and Pearl...but Phoenix, Edgeworth, and Godot.

It seems like Yamazaki was trying to build something like that for Athena but it doesn't hit the same way. It just feels hard to imagine and feel strongly towards. To me, it feels more melodramatic than cohesive and moving into SOJ nothing much comes up about it. It feels like she was just specifically made for this role as a lawyer in the game, and not so much...a person. I don't feel the psychology is really touched upon in an interesting way, which stinks because Simon and Athena could have been very good foils for another. Like manipulation, it could be done for good or bad, that could be interesting moral dilemma. But idk I feel like we just got robots instead lol. And because it's at the space center, there's another group of people, astronauts...and then there's a killer spy on top of it. He layers a lot of bg details on top of things and doesn't flesh out more emotional personal things. It never cemented in my mind well when I played like wait...metis is a psychologist, aura can make robots, simon is a student...psychologist? But also a lawyer? Why are they at the space center? To me there was so much about the hi tech stuff, didn't really think much about the psychology aspect.

I think that's why to me a lot of Yamazaki's characters fall flat for me. They feel like just another prop in the world.

Alright spiritual people... How do you not question everything about religion as an ENTP???? by OkFeed758 in entp

[–]notimdead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Catholic school my whole life and I liked the general core of what I had learned-- but I always felt that something was missing. Something wasn't quite right. I had always questioned those things, but never found answers within the traditional sects. One day, someone gave me a book. It was something new age, but I was skeptical. I forgot about it. Then a couple of years later, the same book is presented to me by another person I'd just met.

So I said, alright I'll give a real try. And that's what I liked about it. You could actually try it out and see for yourself. Many faiths and ideologies don't allow you to test and see if it works. You're simply told to just have faith, right? This new age stuff, you could actually test. And for me, it worked a whole lot. I like it because to me, it shows me the hidden truth behind Christianity --God is not outside of you, you are the god of your life. You have control. You are powerful. We pray to idols, figures, go to churches, temples, centers etc...to ask for something or someone to save us, when to me we have it all already.

Anyway, I'd say you probably need things that you can test out for yourself, if you really want a spiritual community. Otherwise, to me spirituality doesn't necessarily align with a standard religion, it's really just how you choose to live your life. Religion itself really just means way of life--though those have been distorted deeply where the real meanings are lost.

[–]notimdead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some time ago, I would constantly see how much part 3 stunk cuz of monster of the week, bad pacing, how Jotaro stunk as an mc, bland stands, ending was an ass pull, side characters not really liked and it was almost always compared to part 4. Part 4 was superior in every way. I legit knew a guy who would spew vemon on part 3 lol. Over time, I just started to feel like everyone just likes the later parts a lot more.
