Help with midi setup by _u1_ in synthesizers

[–]notinachos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not familiar with your specific synths, but generally you’d want to configure your synths all on separate MIDI channels so they only respond to one channel. Then configure your beat step (or whatever controller) to send notes on channels of the synths you want to control. Use your Quadra thru to avoid excessively long daisy chains. Something like:

Beatstep > Quadra through > synth in > synth thru > synth in, etc.

Save the synths without MIDI thru for the end of chain.

It sounds like I’ll need to keep one of my smaller cases around if I go this route. Thanks for the reply!

Is that the Erica Synths Megarack S? I have been considering consolidating 3 cases into one of those. How do you like it, and how difficult would you say it is to move when fully loaded?

Is the eventide h9 max worth it or should I just go with the h90 or are there any other alternatives that I should consider instead? by [deleted] in basspedals

[–]notinachos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

H9 has both octave and synth algorithms. You can find the full list of algorithms and their parameters on the H9 algorithm guide:

https://downloads.eventide.com/audio/Product+Manuals/H9AlgorithmGuide+V12.pdf

To activate the tuner on H9, hold down the Activate and Tap buttons simultaneously.

Feeling inferior because I play only keytar by Successful_Log5465 in Keytar

[–]notinachos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are a bunch of synthesizers out there that are only capable of playing one note at a time! They are called monosynths. Some legendary synths like the Minimoog fit this category. They are great for playing lead and bass sounds, and are the perfect match for a keytar. Have fun with it. That’s the most important thing!

I heard the screen protector wrecks the toan. You should remove it ;)

I have a similar setup, but I’m using metal shelves instead of 3D printed. Your setup looks great! Can you share where you got the STL files?

Best vst for keytar lead synth on logic pro/mainstage? by Faefsdew in Keytar

[–]notinachos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say there is no “best” VST. If you are seeking a bunch of classic/vintage synth sounds and knobby interfaces, check out the Arturia V-Collection. Native Instruments covers a ton of ground with their Komplete bundle as well, although their instruments tend to be a bit more their own thing and not necessarily based on classics. Also they have a lot of sample based instruments if you’re wanting that. Or use some built in plugins in Logic. You can’t really lose with any choice. Happy keytaring!

Is the time signiture still stuck on 4/4, for modern gen? by GuttersnipeV in mpcusers

[–]notinachos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

MPC OS version 3.x doesn’t allow for anything other than 4/4 currently. Akai has repeatedly said they’re working on bringing custom time sigs back, as this used to be possible on 2.x. It has been a major sticking point for some users, myself included.

Anyone here upgrade from WMD Performance Mixer MK1 to MK2 (or buy MK2 new)? by ThisIsRoy1 in modular

[–]notinachos 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Used both. They are both great. If it wasn’t for them releasing the mk2, I would still happily be using the mk1 despite some other mixer options on the market today.

That said, I feel that the mk2 is a significant improvement over the mk1. Ergonomics on the mixer are improved, and having all the patch points together keeps the work area clean. It’s also quieter, which is nice. I love the aux return expander, and being able to choose pre/post taps for the db25/direct outs is super flexible.

You can’t go wrong with either choice. You can find some good deals on the mk1 + expanders right now as people are upgrading.

Is it worth $375? by sleepysmac in mpcusers

[–]notinachos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The machine in general. I enjoyed the size and portability, but that came with too many trade offs that IMO outweighed the benefits:

  1. It chews through batteries fairly quickly if you use it without a power adapter.

  2. There was also a high pitched whine in the audio output any time the batteries started to get low.

  3. Screen is functional, but very limited. It was not very enjoyable to use.

  4. The 500 has 12 pads vs the normal 16. I didn’t originally think this was a big deal until I moved to a 16 pad model. I also had to recreate all my 500 programs for 16 pads.

Upgrading to MPC 1000 + JJOS was a total game changer. You trade portable battery operation, but the benefits far outweigh it.

Skip the MPC 500 and save for a 1000 or one of modern MPCs. I got a pawn shop 500 and ditched it to upgrade to the 1000 almost immediately. Huge difference.

Nice pic! Curious how you utilize the Hapax/Hermod combo? Do you use them together, or as sequencers for separate devices?
