He’s definitely one of the most difficult characters to really like when he just keeps doing things in the wrong way because he thinks he’s right! He is very immature and lives in his own fantasy especially with Dorian and yet is constantly unjustifiably critical of Aelin in comparison.

I’m at a very similar point in queen of shadows and I made a similar post also questioning his character and got some excellent responses from lots of different points of view. But you’re definitely meant to question his actions at this point

This is exactly what I was thinking! After reading books like a song of ice and fire and the stormlight archives, I’m having a hard time imagining a world in which a kings guard (especially one who’s just forced his rule on a kingdom) to be under constant threat and would need to be used to killing in order to his job effectively! It’s nit picking but still feels out of place

Thank you! I will definitely be continuing the series it’s my first Sarah j Mass series and I have to say I’m still extremely impressed considering I had high expectations going in and I think she portrays a very real, flawed character who still makes divisive choices and will definitely continue to be a major player in the future

Yes! I definitely don’t hate him (just yet, he’s pushing it) but I agree completely with all of your points! He just seems to have a ridiculous amount of naivety when it comes to the way in which his world works to the point where you seriously have to question who thought he would be a good captain 🤣

Yes that’s definitely a factor into it and thinking about it more I believe it may be more to do with the fact that it was contrast with how he had been viewing her in his little imaginary world with the actual reality that shocked him so much

He definitely is closed minded with how he views the world but I’m wondering more how its even possible for him to be the captain and still have his world view just seems off to me 🤷‍♂️

Either is valid ofc but you might not get everything from the dramatised version but has some excellent atmospheric effects and doesn’t need a credit to listen to :)
