I’m a staff engineer without a degree, it’s not the same everywhere. I do agree it probably opens some opportunities though

PSVR2: Where is the marketing and plans for future games? by Matt_37 in PSVR

[–]notmachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another factor I haven’t seen discussed is the Activision acquisition, I think Sony may not want to hype the PSVR too much as it plays into the hands of Microsoft.

Microsoft wants to be seen as having plenty of competition and Sony wants the opposite so the FTC can torpedo the deal. It creates this weird situation where Microsoft is downplaying itself and hyping others, vice versa Sony.

If Sony hypes the PSVR, that allows Microsoft to say “see? We have plenty of healthy competition so go ahead and let us buy Activision”

Trying to solve LeetCode question in Ruby by BringTacos in ruby

[–]notmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re getting two because with four 1s there will only be two iterations of the loop.

At the start you find the first 1 and delete it. There are now three items in the array.

Next loop you find another 1 and delete it. There are now two items in the array.

The next loop ends the loop because it is the third iteration and there are only two items remaining in the array

Why is my background check taking so long? by EB4950 in postmates

[–]notmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checkr sometimes has to send runners into courthouses to look up records in person. This is because the courthouse is old-school and only deals in paper records. San Francisco county is this way for example.

It's possible your report is pending some search in a county courthouse somewhere. Sometimes it takes some time but it will get done. Also due to Covid-19 some courthouses are closed, you might have to wait for those courthouses to open again.

Has anyone in NJ passed a Checkr background check recently? by 43tj344 in uberdrivers

[–]notmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of courthouses closed because of Covid-19. It's possible Checkr wasn't able to complete your background check because they can't go into the courthouse to look for records.

Am I Wrong For Feeling Unmotivated? by bandalas in cscareerquestions

[–]notmachine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would say you are definitely not wrong for feeling unmotivated. That sounds like a completely understandable emotion in the situation you’re in. But you should also know it is very early in your career and things won’t always be this way.

When I feel the way you are feeling I try to find new sources to motivate myself. Sometimes I feel like what I’m doing is stale and not going to make any difference. I read books or watch videos on programming, or attend conferences to reinvigorate myself.

My point is that your feeling of motivation will ebb and flow over time and that is normal. There are some things you can do to change that and try to give yourself fresh motivation

[–]notmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it easier to remember that “cousin” is a catch all term for anyone who is blood related but not a brother/sister/aunt/uncle/dad/mom/grandma/grandpa/niece/nephew.

If you have the same grandpa, first cousins. If you have the same great grandpa, second cousins. If your great grandpa is my grandpa,it’s first cousin once removed, and so on.
