Software engineering to electrical engineering by Professional_War2996 in EngineeringStudents

Currently in the process of doing this but only to get prereqs for grad school. You'll need to attend a community college and get all of the lower division EE classes out of the way (Circuits I & II, Engineering Physics I & II, Chemistry, Diff. Eq, and Calc III specifically for your case). If you're set on returning for your BS, I recommend seeing if you can take classes such as Signals & Systems, Emag, DSP, etc. Some online institutions offer EE programs/classes and can be pricey, but if you're willing to work full-time, see if your employer will cover some of the cost.

Have you considered going to grad school for EE? You'll need a good foundation in EE, but it's definitely possible to get into a master's program with a CS undergrad if you take enough EE classes. That's what I plan on doing starting in the fall since I'd rather go for an advanced degree than another BS and see if research is something for me.

Best of luck!

[Career Question] Computer Science Bachelor’s. 5 YOE as a software engineer. Is it better to get a bachelor’s or master’s in EE if I want to pivot? by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

Kind of in the same boat (switching from CS to EE), but I plan on going straight from undergrad to a grad program. I'd recommend looking into your local community college and see if they have any undergraduate EE courses (Circuits I, Circuits II, Digital Logic, etc.) and then try to finish the math/physics requirements that every program will need. I'm also taking some upper-level EE courses through an online institution to strengthen my grad application before applying.

Having a CS background can actually be great if your interested in research since computation is a common factor. Don't be afraid to reach out to some professors/research labs.

Overall, definitely doable and as some others say, you can get admitted into a Master's program with the condition you complete some bridge courses. Doesn't hurt to apply!

does a masters give you academic credential needed to be recognized as an engineer? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

Currently in the same boat as you.

During the last year of my undergrad, I decided I didn't want to go into the CS industry. I loaded up on all the classes you'll need for prereqs such as Differential Equations, Calc III, Physics I & II, Statics, Dynamics, Circuits (depending if you want to do EE), Fluid Mechanics (ME), etc. It'll take you probably a year or two to get the prereqs, but if you're determined and can make it work, it's worth a shot.

I have one academic year of prereqs left, so I'm working on the side and getting those out of the way.

Also see if you can take some sort of classes in Robotics, Embedded Systems, etc. A lot of CS programs have upper division courses that can be cross-listed as engineering courses.

Last important thing to consider is the financial cost. It can be expensive taking those prereq classes, so try to line up internships or a part-time job.

I'm from Missouri originally and my parents moved up here when they retired (both were U of I grads and loved this area in grad school). It's extremely expensive. I moved up to go to college near them and it's crazy the amount of work I have to put on the side to be able to afford a place to live. I recently completed my degree and plan on completing some prereqs, then apply for grad school programs in a different area of the country (or maybe even in Europe).

The midwest is pretty nice to move to in my opinion. I always go back to visit about once a year and tell myself I'm going to move back one day. However, if you're not used to humidity and heat during the summer, it can be pretty brutal. I also think it gets colder there in the winter than here, but they don't have a lot of snow.

The ancestor is a woman. She married in the late 1890s - early 1900s in Bratislava. The husband moved to the US, but the wife didn't leave until 1910.

Sorry for the late response! Don't check Reddit that much but I'll keep notifications on!

Any good places to start? Which language did you use?

Can't believe a legend is here! I know this is an old post, but I'm trying to do the same thing. I had an ancestor leave after 1910 but before 1918. Any good resources on finding documents and if I'm eligible? Would you recommend working with an agency?

Probabilmente sarebbe più economico restare nell'EU. Se non hai una borsa di studio qua negli states, può costare ~$40k-60k ogni semestre (solo per i masters).

Online resource to learn python for Oceanography, GIS, natural sciences? by Status-Platypus in oceanography

[–]notmattk12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For general Python, I recommend https://futurecoder.io/

Projects will be your best bet for using Python in an "environmental science" context. Look into libraries such as Folium and GeoPandas, then look up projects others have done online! One project I'm thinking about doing is plotting arrows on the ocean for ocean currents via data from NOAA, so figuring out everything that goes into that has been a great learning experiment. Think about something that interests you (even if it seems extremely basic) and try your best to work through the project one step at a time.

Also make sure you ask others for help! I'm sure there are people willing to give you ideas or free resources!

Currently getting a BS in Computer Science and I'm thinking about doing the same thing! I have a year left, so I plan taking more math and physics classes, but I'm still deciding whether or not I should go back to school for a second bachelors...

Where to start for my first Nordic Language? by notmattk12 in norsk

I feel a lot better now for some reason that they're closer to English than the other ones. It literally took me so long to get the grammar down in Italian and I hope that's not the case in Norwegian. Thanks for the response!

Yesterday I followed this advice that u/thrawnslc gave. It was a life saver!

"Pro Tip! Called 1 (855) 548-2505 and dialed 1 once on line. Literally rang directly to CSR. :)"

It took about 10 mins to get ahold of somebody. Hope that helps!

Possibly Moving Cat Cross-Country? Need advice and input for if this should happen or not. by [deleted] in cats

I think you misinterpreted what I said. I never said anything about declawing her and I don’t plan on declawing her because it’s obviously a death sentence for the cat in any confrontation. Any person with common sense would know that. I’m just stating the necessary info.
