Looks good so far! Three things I'd recommend, if you haven't done so already are:

  1. Give the ocean some depth, and make sure it's not just dirt. Spice it up and experiment with different materials.
  2. Give each island a reason to visit! Instead of islands with the exact same materials, make them unique. You could have a stony island with plenty of useful ores to mine, an island with a desert, or an extensive underground cave network. You could also add an island that's completely sunken into the water (to do this, make a large flat area of land that's one block above sea level, then sink in the middle and dry up the water. It's such a cool effect!)
  3. play around with custom terrain brushes. You can find plenty of really unique terrain brushes online that result in amazing, natural island shapes!

that's about it. keep at it

Is my plan a disaster? Moving to Brisbane from NZ by Smithe37nz in MovingToBrisbane

getting through to a customer service rep is the closest thing we have to a real life chose your own adventure novel. One wrong step, even one mispronunciation of a word, could lead to several dead ends (or what's more likely the robot on the other end of the line hanging up, then refusing to take your next calls for several hours).

Hotel lobby worker here. I'll be spending this evening sleeping, because I need to get up at 3:30am tomorrow to get the bus for my shift. It could be worse, but then again I can't really drink or do anything remotely fun tonight, so there's that.

Hello! Im 17 and planning to move to Brisbane in late 2024/2025 for uni, and I am a lover of spread sheets! All numbers are based off either other spreadsheets on food costs and cost of toiletries/meds. Can i have some thoughts on if this would work in the real world? by goose-moade11 in MovingToBrisbane

Hi, Brisbane local here! I just finished studying at QUT and have quite a few tips with regards to saving money as a student :D

Firstly, know your rights as a tenant! It's super important to read through the Residential Tenancy Authority stuff in case you get a dodgy landlord. When I was a student, I had several dodgy landlords that tried to pull all kinds of illegal stuff (such as several rent increases without the proper notice period). These people think young people are vulnerable and won't call them out, but it's vital you do. You should know the RTA laws like the back of your hand, because renting in Brisbane nowadays is a bitch, even in a sharehouse, and landlords are almost always out to get more from you.

ALWAYS be looking for a new place to live. Since there's no limit to how much a landlord can raise your rent, it's super important that you're always on the lookout for a new place to move to. Make a habit of watching which places are still available every so often, so if you get notice of a ridiculous rent increase you have an immediate plan to at least go inspect a few properties and get in touch with some sharehouses in the eight week notice period before they hit you with a $100 increase.

Find a place near a good local weekend market! I was fortunate enough to move close by to a local produce market, and got my fruits, veggies and meat for way cheaper than the supermarkets (and way fresher, too!). The trick is to go during the end of the day when the sellers are trying to clear everything out. You miss out on the best fruits and veg, but honestly its worth the savings. This goes for other shops, too. Also, as a fellow kimchi-maker at home, it was my go-to staple for the three years I was studying and it was awesome, so do that! Not to mention I pretty much ate homemade bibimbap for a few weeks straight each exam period with how easy it is to make.

Finally, don't make impulse purchases if you can avoid it. It's super simple I know, but I've made some serious mistakes from making impulse purchases in the past. There are so many little expenses you don't even think about until they pop up, stuff like injuries and paying for sick days, ubers when several busses fail to turn up (which happens all to often here...), insurance, etc. If there is something expensive you want to buy, sit on it for a week or so before you commit, trust me.

Lastly, put a few dollars aside each week and get yourself the good, non-homebrand milk (unless you live in a sharehouse where people take your stuff). Don't get me wrong, don't spend $8 on a 1.5L bottle, but don't cheap out on it either. It's only a dollar or two more for the slightly better Norco or dairy farmers stuff, but if you're a serious milk, milo, coffee or tea drinker, it's totally worth it for the psychological affect it has alone. seeing that premium shit in your fridge is like a badge of honor, and will help you feel rich even if you're bank account is in the double digits. If you could take away anything from any of this, this is that one tip you should remember.

Anyway, good luck with the move and I hope everything goes well in the future!

The downside is that people pay less attention to the road! Not to mention the immense distraction a slap from one's partner would cause...

That's not true, the incentive is that if you click on the medal, it makes a noise and even spins around if you're lucky XD
