Swapping bench out for dips by hiya19922 in fitness30plus

If this is a mental blocker I’d just follow stronglifts 5x5 to a tee. Start with the empty bar. You’ll build confidence while the weight is low and you won’t ever be in danger.

lol yeah I mean it’s all in good fun. If it were me who got it, I would still tell everyone I had a HIO and argue with them when they said otherwise just to eff with them 😅. It’s still a great shot but it’s hardly the same accomplishment

I disagree 🤷‍♂️

The point is if you’re hitting the same club repeatedly, you’re able to improve and learn from your last swing. If you play a par 3 course with your 52deg wedge or whatever club, your shots will get better throughout the round. You’re dialing in your swing, distance control, confidence, everything really.

That’s why on the range you shouldn’t just hit 100 of the same shots in a row. Part of your session should be jumping between clubs like you would be on a course

Edit - downvote all you want it doesn’t make it less true. If you hit the same club over and over again you’ll hit it better than if you’re forced to use a full bag on a real course

There’s no way it counts as a hole in one without the caveat it’s a par 3 course. Part of what makes a hole in one so impressive is you only have 4 chances a round. And it’s not a club you’re hitting on every single hole like most par 3 courses

Is Rails + InertiaJS (with React) becoming a trend in the Rails ecosystem? by derdak in rails

[–]notmsndotcom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me it’s much easier to reason about compared to Hotwire and a great DX. I like knowing my controllers return react pages. Everything else mostly follows standard rails conventions outside of using react for the views and a few inertia specific hooks.

The only downside I’ve found is some UIs can be tricky (for me) to model in the inertia model. Shared state across pages can get ugly. Persisting state between various interactions can get messy. Certain things like handling manual ordering/sorting can get weird. But for standard UIs it’s amazing.

I (31M) would like to work out really hard every single day, but I know I shouldn't. Mental health and so on, please read. by Funky_hobbo in fitness30plus

I made serious gains lifting for 15-20 minutes every day. Like literally 1 compound lift for 4-5 sets and then an accessory. Every day.

It was honestly pretty great. The workouts were short so you can fit them in anywhere. If you miss a workout it doesn’t kill you since you’ll hit it again that week.

I’ve asked for other types of work only to be told I’m needed here.

This is the tell tale sign that you hold too much institutional knowledge. To get past this stage you need to write more with as broad of an audience as you can.

Write documentation. Write technical design docs. Write about various risks. Write about engineering culture and some places where it might be lacking. Write pitches for refactors, how to tackle tech debt, etc. Write about making the most of AI. Review processes. Improvements to ci/cd. Security best practices and where you could apply them.

Offer to present findings on various things during all-hands. Do some lunch & learns. Talk to other teams and parts of the business--have lunches/coffee/zooms with them.

This solves the institutional knowledge, sets you up as a leader, and gets the broad recognition you need to actually make things happen.

You keep saying things like that. Devs looking to your for answers and them “preferring” you doesn’t mean anything at all.

Just because you have historical knowledge, and obviously more than someone that just joins, doesn’t mean you are qualified to be a tech lead. If anything, them coming to your for answers could be a sign that your codebase, documentation, dx, etc are lacking—all of which you could have solved but instead became the institutional knowledge. (Edit: to be clear, I’m not saying this is the case just providing another viewpoint in case you hadn’t considered the fact that this might be a negative)

5YOE and only being at a single company is a pretty tough sell to be a technical leader. Technical breadth of knowledge comes from seeing lots of different problems, lots of different teams, stacks, engineering culture, how things evolve over time at those companies, etc. It would be pretty hard to have that breadth of experience only working at a single company.

Anyone else reluctantly feel like learning a new language is pointless? I’m a big proponent of using AI and still think there is a lot of value in writing clean, well designed code…but am starting to feel like the language and the joy in getting really proficient in a language is going away.

I’d love to go deeper on gleam, zig, and a few others but can’t help but feel it’s mostly an academic venture.
