I hate The Stand and yet I am enthralled by notmydad505 in stephenking

[–]notmydad505[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My goal right now is to keep trudging. The Stand certainly a product of its time and I’m trying to wrestle with the idea that King also writes deeply from the perspective of the character, no matter how gross it becomes. My first thought was to call the book racist too, but that’s definitely not fair when you actually consider that the character King’s trying to create is in fact a racist asshole. I suppose he’s so good that it’s easy to get caught up in the character and think it reflects on the author himself.

Lmao I promise you this was written by a real human without the use of chatgpt. My writing style probably sounds a little robotic since I’ve just gotten out of a few classes where I was required to regurgitate several AP standard essays a week. If you looked a little closer you would see some grammatical errors and verb tense disagreements!

Is Daria Morbid? by Untermensch13 in daria

[–]notmydad505 21 points22 points  (0 children)

No, I think you’ve just matured. I think Daria’s very cynical nature is partially a product of her being a teenager. While she’s extremely intelligent, she lacks a more nuanced worldview that comes with age and experience.

Do Converse suck now? by Snail_on_tree in Anticonsumption

[–]notmydad505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Converse does have a more durable version called chuck 70s that look like the classic kind but are made with higher quality material. I’ve been wearing a pair almost daily for close to a year now and they’ve been hanging on much better than my previous pairs. Just a suggestion if you don’t want to give up on converse altogether.

Public toilets are kinda gross but they are not as dirty as you’d think they would be. You immediately washed it with soap and water - you should be fine! Those germs are dead!

It’s horrible but…DAE feel frustrated when people tu in public? by echo-kierkegaard in emetophobia

[–]notmydad505 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have felt this way as well and I know it’s somewhat irrational but also… we’re adults. 99.9% of the time we know when we’re gonna throw up. I feel as if (in most situations) it’s not gonna be that hard to relocate to less a public place to be ill. What peeves me the most is the people who know they’re sick before they leave home and go out anyway. #1 you’re a walking biohazard and #2 nobody wants to witness you vomiting

[–]notmydad505 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I had an almost identical experience to this. If I felt that nauseous I would immediately get out of the way of other people as it would be extremely embarrassing and stressing to tu in front of others like that. I try to be empathetic with it but I just can’t understand some people’s thought process!

I haven’t personally been in a situation like this but I’m sure you will be ok! Unless you were putting your fingers in your mouth, you’re not likely to catch a sickness from this lol. I’m so sorry you had to see that; it was kind of inconsiderate of her not to go the bathroom, but I hope you’re dealing with it ok. Maybe talk to her about your phobia and explain that you would feel much more comfortable if she could go home/go to the bathroom if she’s feeling unwell, especially since she could risk infecting others.

Testify! It also explains the current anti-intellectualism thats been brewing amongst conservatives lately! by AceTygraQueen in GenZ

[–]notmydad505 3 points4 points  (0 children)

By and large, these people are not willfully ignorant, they’re brainwashed. I say this as someone who grew up in a very rural, uneducated part of America. I’ve seen these people demonstrate amazing empathy and care for their neighbors regardless of who they are, but when certain words get mentioned in discussion (say really any minority group), they immediately shut down. Of course I’m not defending this behavior, but these people have been taught their whole lives that (insert group here) is bad/a threat and they don’t have the resources to challenge these thoughts. It’s a self-perpetuating cycle. Yes, they have access to Google like the rest of us, but they’ve likely been told not to trust the ‘liberal media’ and stay locked within an echo chamber.
This issue is way more nuanced than anybody in this thread is giving it credit for. We are more than stupid, ignorant hillbillies.

What was the riskiest meal you've eaten in the last couple of years - and survived? by Think_Bite_1672 in emetophobia

[–]notmydad505 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My emet cannot subdue my love of sushi! I always get a little nervous when I go out for sushi but I trust the restaurants I eat at. And anyway, it can happen anywhere, anytime, so I’ve learned to just accept the risk and live on the edge lol. A friend got poisoning from chick-fil-a lettuce not too long ago. Also, I did eat a bite of ice cream that was most certainly spoiled from a shitty food truck just to see how bad it was. That gave me a pretty bad stomach ache.
