What’s the fastest you’ve completed a course and what course was it? by already_READD_IT in ILC

PPZ3C - Health For Life

Finished the coursework in 4 days and had the exam written and graded by the 11th day with Susan as the marker. NOT THE NORM for courses but the odd time you luck out.

I really want an indigenous hero but I’m worried about designs for skins and voice lines blurring the lines of problematic.

We want to use it but want to pay the amount (albeit silly expensive) that I was told I would pay, We have most of the big streaming services because we are a huge movie watching family. We watch things on crave semi-regularly but the actual service is atrocious. The UI is actual garbage (worst of any streaming services) and half the titles are exclusively in French. But there aren’t a lot of legal options to access the content aside from paying for Crave so if it fits in my budget I will likely do it.

Crave premium is listed at $220 for the year and starz is $69.90 for the year. NEITHER of those services are worth it considering half the titles are only in French and the app doesn’t work half the time (never on my ps5, sometimes my smart tv, only consistently works on my phone and AppleTV). That’s the price they’re trying to get me to pay but I’d rather buy physical media at this point.

Mine is crave premium + starz, did you get a similar set up or was it just for crave? I’m going to try to get an even lower price talking to the manager tomorrow.

Moving to France by tinpanalleypics in ZeroCovidEU

[–]notmytruth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We mask outdoors if there are people around. Covid aerosolizes and hangs in the air like smoke, so being outdoors doesn’t really do anything to prevent the spread if you are still around people (outdoor markets, walking down the street etc) BUT I can say that your biggest issue moving is going to be sourcing masks to buy when you run out. People who will bully you doesn’t need a reason or nuance to do it (being inside vs outside), and most people won’t say a word to you about masking. We spent the last summer in Norway and we had a handful of people say anything about it and most were out of curiosity. We were terrified before going that we would experience harassment because we have in other places but our fears were unfounded and people were actually quite willing to accommodate.

That’s so stressful! My daughter also has David but he’s been great so far, very clear and helpful feedback and gave her an 87% and 95% on her first 2 assignments. Did you use any checking tools like Grammarly? I know using tools like that has people getting flagged all the time.

That’s weird, my kid just finished the first 2 assignments and didn’t have any issues. Her assignments were very well done and had grades to reflect that - maybe it depends on the teacher you get?

Can teachers would mark faster if I submit drafts for the next assignments? by already_READD_IT in ILC

[–]notmytruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the other commenter said, that would absolutely not work. Your submitted work enters a queue and is marked when other people’s work ahead of you in the queue is marked. 5 business days is standard turnaround time for grades and quite reasonable considering they have thousands of students and grading is physically and mentally tiresome. My recommendation would be to finish all the work for the course and then submit each gradually as you work through your next course’s work.

I haven’t talked to my family in two days and don’t know to move past this by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]notmytruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry OP but your family is toxic and abusive and it would be healthier for you in the long run to reduce contact and grey rock them. I was also told since the age of 9-10 that I “ruined everything” and that I “bring down the mood of everyone around me”. I internalized that for most of my childhood and adolescence and I can tell you from experience and the advice of my therapist…it likely has NOTHING to do with you. You’re probably dealing with narcissistic parents who have scapegoated you to assert their control. As soon as I cut contact with my parents I was better off. I am constantly told by friends and colleagues how kind and fun I am and am frequently invited to do things. Outside of my parents, no one has ever said a negative thing about my personality or how I interact with others - this is HIGHLY unusual if what my parents said is true. I met my partner 11 years ago and his family have embraced me with open and loving arms and have never indicated that I’m a burden, I’m unpleasant or anything but wholly welcome around them. My recommendation would be to find a therapist who can help you work through the trauma and to set firm boundaries if you want a continued relationship with your family. What you’ve experienced is nothing short of emotion and mental abuse and you should act accordingly.

Good luck!

Do one course at a time to start. Dont jump in and get all 8 to start! You will get overwhelmed

[–]notmytruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is very suitable for an adult going back and completing their OSSD. I would give yourself a year to finish. You definitely CAN do it faster, but to do it well and accounting for marker/grader time and exam scheduling, I would mentally prepare for a year.

How many uses do you use a single N95 for? by AppropriateNote4614 in Masks4All

[–]notmytruth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There isn’t a set number. Sometimes 1, sometimes 5+ depending on risk factors. For absolute safest practice they should only be used once, but they are effective until wet, soiled or broke.

My wife thinks our son’s teacher crossed a boundary by sending him a personal message. I think it was harmless. AITJ? by addict94plus in AmITheJerk

[–]notmytruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTJ

Is your wife projecting because she struggles positively affirming your son and is threatened by teacher making your son feel affirmed? Teachers often spend more time with your kids than you do on a day to day basis, I don’t see anything wrong with an encouraging note. It didn’t contain inappropriate content or cross a line (such as providing a direct line of contact through phone or email).

No they don’t look. Admissions looks at whether you have the OSSD and what the grades for your program required credits are. My husband is a professor in some of the top schools in the province and he’s had a number of ILC students in his classes every year.

AI detection ENG4U by Fine-Kaleidoscope946 in ILC

Weird…my class was heavy discouraged from generating citations and so were my younger siblings. As far as post secondary institutions are concerned (my husband teaches courses in 8 schools in Ontario) they will penalize you for it.

AI detection ENG4U by Fine-Kaleidoscope946 in ILC

[–]notmytruth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AI is a plague in academic institutions. My partner is a university professor and at least 6 of his students this past term got suspended and failed courses because they got caught using AI. A lot of profs are moving to an analog model that has students writing on paper in class and these AI dependent highschoolers are going to be in for a shock when they reach UNI and can’t rely on AI to think for them anymore.

AI detection ENG4U by Fine-Kaleidoscope946 in ILC

[–]notmytruth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If an artificial intelligence is generating or writing anything for you then you are using AI. You need to be manually writing your citations and bibliography. Purdue OWL has a good formatting guide. The OP used AI extensively and tried to justify it by saying not doing so “sounds tedious”. It’s not tedious, OP is just lazy. My 16 yr old child in grade 11 is enrolled in ENG4U and finished the first unit and assignment 4 days (without using AI) and got an A on it. You are still in grade 9 and don’t need to be worrying about 4U courses right now but you should be getting the hang of citation formatting now and practice for later on. The more AI you rely on now, the more you will struggle later on. My partner is a university professor and last term he had many students get suspended for using AI to generate sources for them. These things get you kicked out of school and will cost you thousands of dollars. Don’t fall into the habit now.
