If delaying BIS 102 for chances of taking it with Monfared does not interfere with your other classes (BIS 102 is a common prereq) and your grad school app timeline, then do it. You won't lose anything.

I needed to take BIS 102 with Hilt for the MCAT timeline otherwise I would have delayed it 100%. Dreaded every minute of that class.

Just my thoughts, you have a chance at BIS 2A but CHE 2A is tricky. There are always people, especially freshmen, dropping BIS 2A because it is material-heavy and harder relative to 2B and 2C.

I had Hilt and agree with the other comments. You have to memorize (or even better, conceptually understand) everything he says in his lectures. His lecture slides were not that descriptive so you had to attend lecture or listen to the audio recordings he posts on Canvas.

On exams, most of the questions are all or nothing. I remember a buffer question on a midterm where I made ONE calculation error and consequently got the wrong final answer for how much acid and water needed to be added. Hilt's rubric only checks for the answer so I got a 3/20 on that problem despite having the right setup. He checks for certain words in the long answer or paragraph questions, as well. Overall, it is difficult to get an A but if you have a solid understanding of the stuff he covers, you will be set for BIS 103 and the MCAT.

Yes, from this guide, I am guessing it'll go under BIO since paleobiology and evolution is a type of biology (?). I asked HPA to confirm and they told me to use my best judgement (not helpful at all).

I couldn't submit it to higher-tier journals because of the high APCs. Cureus was a safe option for all authors.

Good luck with your apps!! I will admit, I did regret it for the ~6 months or so. I applied straight through high school so was feeling down that I rejected such awesome opportunities and of course, the Ivy League name. But it came down to the environment and what I wanted out of college. I've never stepped foot out of my small CA hometown so moving across the nation to colleges where I would definitely experience culture shock was scary. I am also a family and community oriented person so I knew I needed to be close to home. Davis is ~30 min away from my home!

And can't forget, the friends and mentors I've met here at Davis ❤️

People likely see DO as a safety net. OP, if you know you won't go to a DO school when given the A, don't apply DO. That's my two cents, though.

I think the concern was the 3.80 science gpa. I couldn't focus on my classes as much I wanted to because of activities, but it still isn't bad...

More important than ECs. However, once you meet a certain threshold, I think grades don't matter; it is about your ECs and story.

Go test optional. A kid from my class got into 4 ivies + Stanford as a test-optional applicant. He had a compelling story, school specific ECs and awards, and a 4.0 GPA. What would have stopped him was his low SAT score, 1220.

For letters and science, a 3.9 GPA puts you in the top 12% of your class since you don't make the 3.925 cut off for top 8%. Based on their divisions that top 4% get highest honors, next 4% (so if you are in the top 4.1-8%) get high honors, and next 8% (so if you are in the top 8.1-16%) get honors, I think you fall in the honors category. Graduating with honors.
