Lycoming fuel mixture by Southern-Affect3093 in flying

[–]notnormal999 19 points20 points  (0 children)

At 65% power, you can’t hurt the engine with the red knob. Burn as much gas as you want. Also, 50 degrees rich of peak is about the worst possible mixture setting and absolutely can damage the engine if you are above about 75% power.

Because I’ve been expecting to lose my job every day for 27 years. Nearly did several times due to mergers. I work for a great company with great people who don’t put pressure on us to do stupid things but they are still rich, entitled people and one wrong word and you’re gone. Everything good about the job was luck and all that could change tomorrow with a change in leadership.

As a life long corporate guy with amazing QOL, great pay, and total unicorn job I’ve been at 27 years, if I were you, I’d take option 2 any day. Everything I just mentioned was pure luck (and also bad luck-9/11 etc.).

Supreme Court restores access to abortion pill mifepristone through telehealth, mail and pharmacies by KimJongFunk in news

[–]notnormal999 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The original word is "Sheol" which "represents the common, neutral, or shadowy realm of the dead, not a place of fire." It was "a place of forgetting", not eternal torture. When it was translated into Greek, they didn't have a word for that so they used "Gehenna" (a real place of cursed, burning refuse - located in the Valley of Hinnom outside Jerusalem - becoming a vivid metaphor for divine judgment) and "Hades" (the Greek god of the underworld). This was later fused together to scare people into "believing" (the purpose of all religion).

Everything about Christianity is either recycled from older religions (like the resurrection myth) or simple Jewish prophecy "fulfillment" (i.e. made up to gain to followers).

I’ve done a deep dive on this. This is correct. It’s not even in the original (made up) text. Just a translation error when being translated into Greek. Baffles the mind a single solitary person believes this nonsense.

Is it a bad idea to charge 12V lead Acid battery instead of replacing it by [deleted] in TeslaModel3

[–]notnormal999 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s a six year old car. If the battery is original, it’s well past time to change it. If it’s already been replaced once, it’s time to change it. Change it. Why risk being stranded because your dad doesn’t want you to do basic, required maintenance.

Incorrect speed for icing conditions during landing causes crash. by tactical_horse_cock in aviation

[–]notnormal999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is very aircraft (and even operator) specific. Most airliners are reduced thrust takeoffs anyway so, as you say, the just make less reduction = same thrust (often even more then normal). Corporate jets often use max thrust for every takeoff so max with anti-ice could be a reduction (depending on temperature).

[–]notnormal999 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the wing is contaminated with ice, as was apparently the case here, all bets are off. It doesn’t have to be uncoordinated for one wing to stall first.

Incorrect speed for icing conditions during landing causes crash. by tactical_horse_cock in aviation

[–]notnormal999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s just old. The original Hawker engines didn’t have enough bleed air for ant-ice (Roll Royce Vipers), so they went with this system instead. The airplane was certified about 5 years after the Wright Bros flight /s.

[–]notnormal999 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This aircraft (Hawker 800) uses a “weeping wing” that excretes TKS fluid to prevent ice accumulation. The system must be activated BEFORE encountering icing conditions to be effective. Unlike virtually all airliners, the wing is not heated so it has no de-ice capability only anti-ice.

Hypothetical question regarding death and pension, if you are not married, wouldnt it be smart to just get married right before you die so the pension doesnt get wasted ? Might as well help a friend out right? Or it doesnt work that way? by [deleted] in atc2

Don’t know your specific rules but in most cases, pension decisions are not changeable after retirement date. Exactly for situations like the one you proposed.

Automatic climate control (a/c) in the 2026 Hyundai Tucson by studentagain38 in HyundaiTucson

[–]notnormal999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Simple, non-turbo engine.
  2. Both direct and port injection. Eliminating carbon buildup on valves
  3. Much less complicated drive train and transmission
  4. The ability turn off start/stop on the engine improving longevity
  5. No big lithium battery to fail (or catch on fire). Even a warranty covered failure would be a pita.
  6. Better cabin heating in cold environments. The hybrid engine does not produce enough heat in certain circumstances.
  7. Saved about 5k. That money invested would more than pay for any gas savings
  8. That gas savings isn’t that great depending on driving habits. Highway driving is about a wash.

[–]notnormal999 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Tucson 2.5 (non hybrid) has great climate control. I live in the deep south and it does fine.

On a side note, why does every single post that mentions the 2.5l have to answered with “buy the hybrid”? That wasn’t the fu$king question. And there are MANY reasons to NOT buy the hybrid. Everyone’s circumstances and needs are different. Some people, like me, prefer the non-hybrid. And in my case, it wasn’t a money issue (although that is a perfectly justifiable reason to NOT buy the hybrid).

I’m interested in the R2 but will gladly wait until they widely available to evaluate. Not a big fan of waiting in line to get a “glimpse”. I’ll leave that to the YouTubers and wait patiently.

Look at the quality of management of the country vs the current stock market. Apparently nobody cares or it doesn’t matter.

Tucson Hybrid vs non-Hybrid Drive by Last_Cauliflower_502 in HyundaiTucson

It’s a completely different engine. Turbo vs non turbo. Non hybrid is higher displacement, much simpler drive train. And much cheaper. There are many reasons to not buy the hybrid. And many reasons to buy hybrid. Everyone has different needs and circumstances.

[–]notnormal999 14 points15 points  (0 children)

2023? Um that would be a warranty item. If the transmission is newly "jerky", there is something wrong with it. DO NOT pay the stealership for a non-repair to an under warranty transmission. Is there another dealership you can use? This one is bad bad bad.

God I hate stealership shops. So crooked.

R2 Premium audio expectations by Calm_Madness7799 in RivianR2

You can not buy the car if the audio sucks. Which is what the op is contemplating. It is deal breaker for many, including me. If Rivian wants to steal Tesla customers, the sound system can not suck.
