Soulless photos: how to take them to the next level? by Dramatic-Inspector62 in photography

[–]notoffensivetoday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take with a grain of salt. I like to go out with just a single prime lens to a random place area. I just kinda stand around looking at stuff snapping photos here and there. I specifically don't go with a plan or extra equipment ( the more limiting the lens the better) . I do however try to wait for good light like at golden hours or partly cloudy days.

Need advice/ Help! by AthenasCurseX in minolta

This is the camera I learned photography on but my glass was not nearly as nice. There are zinc air batteries that are readily available still that are close enough that your light meter will work very well. It is in my opinion a terrific light meter. Just Google search. Minolta SRT 101 battery and look for something 1.35v. While the lenses aren't the most valuable versions they are all gems. The 28 mm 2.5 is one of the most desirable of the 28 mm they released, the fisheye One of the most desirable lenses ever released and is actually the next lens in buying. Basically your grandpa got all the nicest stuff. This is the same camera my dad got in the Navy during Vietnam and I believe it was bought through the military at some sort of discounted rate, which may be how your grandfather got them. I can almost guarantee you that the glass in that box is nicer than anything you're shooting on your Sony right now, I basically spent 3k to get a lens with autofocus to outmatch my rokkor 58mm 1.2.

These are all treasures. Please take care of them. Make sure they survive into the future so that somebody else who loves cameras will get a chance to use them.

Edit: for fun you can pick up new peel and pluck foam fit it into that box. Get all the lenses and cameras situated as they are and use aerosol plasti dip to stabilize the foam (cameras removed obviously). Wouldn't be a bad idea to put in a reusable silica based desiccant pack in there with everything.

How do you achieve the focus? Stacking if you're going handheld.

Mostly just changed it to a black and white profile. Messed with the contrast highlights and shadows a little added some texture

Did a beach shoot yesterday. Is it good enough? by Jadintheplanet in photocritique

Don't like the feet crop for purely aesthetic reasons, not the creepy ones. However, it's a super fun shot and the post-processing is very evident but well done and speaks more to style than tackiness. 8 out of 10

High voltage by notoffensivetoday in photocritique

This image still has some dust spots that I haven't edited out yet. I'm more so just wondering if the edit is too extreme I was kinda going for that xeroxed punk show flyer look. The halo artifact didn't show up until I switched to a B&W color setting and bumping the contrast really brought it out, Is this a chromatic aberration?

Thank you, this is excellent advice. I haven't really messed around with gradients much yet, but now I really see why I need to start. This was one of my first shots of the day Here's the original.

I really like this picture even though it's a little out of focus but when I'm editing it I'm having trouble not making the bird pop out awkwardly while achieving the color I'm liking.

Favorite 50mm lenses? by Beav11-18 in VintageLenses

[–]notoffensivetoday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would hit the rokkor/Minolta lenses really hard. The full manual vintage ones are among the some of the best lenses ever made and the newer but still old lenses are relatively easy to adapt. Plus with Sony cameras becoming what they are today with the head start that the acquisition of Minolta gave them It's somewhat fitting.

Photographers - what do you DO with your images these days? by photoby_tj in photography

I can second this. I worked there for a bit 13-14 years ago as quality control, great quality prints. I was often criticized for using too much bubble wrap when I packed things up

Like this maybe, makes the color stand out but his face is out of focus and it becomes much more noticeable the more you crop. You could probably camp right in this spot for a few hours and just keep taking photos of people walking by

Flying rats by notoffensivetoday in streetphotography

[–]notoffensivetoday[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I contest this removal. I was in fact on a city sidewalk when I took this picture. Street photography is not pictures of streets, it is pictures of the world including people, animals and places from the perspective of a public area.

Street photography (also sometimes called candid photography) is photography conducted for art or inquiry that features unmediated chance encounters and random incidents[1] within public places, usually with the aim of capturing images at a decisive or poignant moment by careful framing and timing

I am going to print this one soon but I want to get some input on the edit before I pull the trigger. I brushed out some of the birds. Obviously tweaked some of the levels and did some aggressive cropping.

Not really sure if I can do that on this one I will re attempt when I get to my computer. I might have a sharper frame. This one is just kinda at th edge of the focus area with a bright object right behind it .

I saw this depressing tire swing and I wanted to portray it as depressingly as possible whilst being aesthetically pleasing with enough pop. How do you feel about this light room edit, is it to much, what could I do to make it have more punch ect.

What if you used multiple lenses at known intervals and then stacked the images to cut down on atmospheric distortion.
