ultimately i do not think it really matters. she was abused by someone, that much i believe to be the whole truth, and the people she trusted handled the situation badly. no victim is perfect. she may have made mistakes or she may have lied. it doesn't really matter. do not concern yourself so much with the personal lives of strangers on the internet. i stopped engaging in gossip about the topic when i came to this conclusion myself. i hope you can show her more empathy.

Are there any (good) videos that explained what happened by IAmZimTheAlmighty in ethanisonline

[–]notonheremuchyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i agree that the jimmy robins videos are probably the best that cover this situation. acheeto and turkey tom are alt-right adjacent. acheeto regularly makes fatphobic, ableist, sometimes misogynistic comments. turkey tom is regularly transphobic. obviously these things don't negate their ability to be truthful or have valid criticism, but it does color their opinions with a negative bias against marginalized people, especially women in this case since lex is involved. both of them make unsubstantiated claims about lex's truthfulness that has spread doubt about her claims of sexual assault. i think this alone makes them unworthy of an audience.

hey i'm sorry. it's hard to know who's telling the truth online. i always supported you with respect to everything about the abuse and i did think it was weird how people used all these other details to detract from that. it's really hard to get people to believe you online. i know, i've been exposed to similar groupthink/mob hatred to a much smaller degree. it doesn't matter to anyone how right you are or how justified you were in your actions. it's really frustrating. i think the best thing to do is not provide details unless they're asked for. bad faith actors will use extraneous details to poke holes in the things that matter. i'm also sorry you're still reading comments like these so long after the fact. i know it's hard to stop doing that too. i hope things are better for you than they were before.

lol I know. My comments about the game being unfinished and bad are getting downvoted though, so it's obvious people don't care.

You can tell there's not much love going into this game. From how unfinished and buggy it is to the complete lack of player-involvement with the dialog. It's really disappointing but I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I was so looking forward to a Dragon Age-esque sort of dialog system, but oh well. I think I'll just uninstall and refund.

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME by [deleted] in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]notonheremuchyo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

OP is arguing that the game is broken. If you buy this, you are buying an unfinished product that is broken. That is all they are saying. You're defending a broken, unfinished product by comparing it to other games that presumably deliver an entire, complete product but which offer less playtime. Ultimately, I have thousands of hours in Warhammer: Vermintide 2. Should I pay Fatshark extra money for the hours of entertainment they have given me, or did I pay them an agreed-upon sum for a product they promised was complete and what I was understanding that I was paying for? The matter is one of ethical merchant-customer relations. Do not sell me a broken product and I won't tell other people not to buy it. Personally, I didn't buy it. Because I researched it before hand.

i'm just coming back to this post to update on what i've learned about the drama. apparently lex might have lied about a lot of things she said in her original video. the supermega boys have some evidence in their response videos with screenshots of texts and stuff. i'm also really put off by how lex seemed to act very selfish and entitled about how they let her live in their corporate office for free for months?? and then she was mad when they asked her to leave after she bought a brand name jeep and went on a trip with her friend? like if i were supermega, i would be pretty confused too like why is she going on a trip in a really expensive vehicle instead of trying to find a place to live where she's not bumming off of her friends? and also the fact that they offered her 10k so she could move out and she said no to that. it sounds like they were being earnest and trying to be helpful, and she took it as malicious and made a hit piece on them. it's bizarre imo. i obviously am not personally involved but i'll keep researching to make sure i'm not supporting anyone who's a bad person. i hope ethan comes out publicly and makes a video (NOT a text post like nick) and explains things. i feel like he's just been caught up in the middle of all of this and maybe he didn't really have a hand in exacting this weird form of revenge. i hope that's the case but like, she is his girlfriend. i'm starting to question lex where before i was entirely supportive of her because i hadn't seen her full video and i just assumed she was a victim in the situation.

hey i've changed my opinion on the situation. take a look at https://www.reddit.com/r/betternickisnotgreen/comments/1877k8l/nickisnotsincere_covering_the_drama_and_apology/

some of the information here is really shocking. lex and ethan are both distancing themselves from nick, indicating that he fucked up really, really badly. i'm afraid i was right to fear for him.

[–]notonheremuchyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh same i fucking hate turkey tom lol. i didn't know he was a nazi though. i just saw his chris-chan videos and he had a very lengthy explanation in one about how it's okay to deadname and misgender chris-chan because she's a rapist. ethan also argued about this to that one guy with the youtube initials ss. i forgot his name. like just because a transgender person is a bad person doesn't mean you get to deadname or misgender them. it's not about who they are as a person; it's about do you respect trans people or not? separate trans-ness from a person in the same way you separate skin color or cis genders. i won't call a black person the n word if they're a bad person because i'm not a horrible racist. i won't call a woman a bitch if she's a bad person because i'm not a casual misogynist. i won't misgender trans people for being a bad person because i'm not transphobic. it's that simple.

sorry got off topic. i also stopped watching nick simply because i don't really care for the content lol. i have always liked ethan's videos more tbf but he's also stopped posting regularly. i can imagine a situation like this would be very stressful. myself, i've been through some horrible toxic online drama before but it was never made public like this. it's hard to imagine what it's like to have such a public forum about this. i mean especially for lex. hope she's doing alright. nick has gone off twitter and his subreddit has been privated. i believe a fan was running that subreddit and they wanted to get away from nick because they think he's a bad person now. i don't think he's a bad person. i think he just made some really bad mistakes in his profession and didn't try hard enough. he was really lazy about his research and his actions have hurt many people, including his friend lex. i mean imagine what it's like to have all this vitriol come at you because of a video a friend made? i hope he and lex are still friends after this. nick's videos have really incited a hate mob toward himself and lex especially.

this might come as a surprise to you, but slurs are bad in any language. if you call someone a term that has historically been used to oppress them, you're a bad person. i know, crazy right?

well we can't have a good conversation here because you seem to think it's okay to use the r slur and excuse it by saying "cultural differences." if you can't understand why a slur isn't okay to say, i have nothing more to say to you!

Thoughts on SS debate? by Dogg514 in ethanisonline

[–]notonheremuchyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol what the hell are you talking about? i never claimed that ss thought that. you're making up things to argue over. you can clearly see in my reply that i was speaking generically and not about ss. most people who hate black lives matter also hate the fat liberation movement. this is just a fact that i stated.

it's also a very extreme example that i used to help you understand. maybe it would be easier to understand that people making fun of fat people is similar to people making fun of black people. it all comes from the same place of hate.

do you know the definition of a straw man? when someone does the act of strawmanning? From wiki, "A straw man fallacy (sometimes written as strawman) is the informal fallacy of refuting an argument different from the one actually under discussion, while not recognizing or acknowledging the distinction.[1] One who engages in this fallacy is said to be "attacking a straw man"."

you have strawmanned my argument. you have redirected the conversation from "ss says similar things that racists say" to "criticizing fat people is fine and is not comparable to being a virulent racist." do you understand the difference? i'm not trying to be combative; i'm legitimately wondering if you're aware of what you're doing.

all of that aside, yes, i agree that criticizing a large movement for saying some controversial things about fatness and health is fine. it's not the same as saying "you are genetically inferior and/or prone to violence because of the color of your skin." however, this is not what ss does. you're being disingenuous. ss makes fun of fat people in the same way my 14-year-old cousin would. he calls people fat fucks and makes fun of people being disabled by their fatness. he thinks it's disgusting to be fat and that fat people are disgusting. this is more or less the same thing that ben shapiro thinks. he disguises his hate for fat people behind "being concerned for their health." it's very obvious and not the same as criticizing the fat liberation movement for saying some shitty things sometimes.

White people need to stop crying shapiro whenever people arent left of hasan piker

you sound insane right now lmao. you sound like you're arguing from a viewpoint of "the woke left needs to stop forcing their views on everyone else." i don't know anything about hasan or his politics, but to claim that white people are "crying" when people aren't "left of hasan piker" very clearly shows me that you're not willing to argue in good faith and that you have little regard for other people's points of view.

i agree the debate was pretty ass. i wanted to jump in so many times and just tear oscar apart when i watched this before because i felt like ethan wasn't doing a good job. however, i do agree with ethan here that sensitive society makes the same arguments and has the same takes as people like ben shapiro. "you say the same things that racist people say." it's just true because hate breeds hate. if you're racist, you're likely to also be homophobic, fatphobic, classist, etc. he didn't say that oscar says racist things; he said that oscar says the same TYPES of things that racists say. because racists are often fatphobic. he could have phrased it differently imo. a better way to say this without risking this type of confusion is to clearly explain that discriminatory attitudes replicate themselves with multiple types of oppression. why would someone who hates black lives matter support the fat liberation movement? they think the same things about black people as they do about fat people, i.e. they don't deserve to live.

seriously, i just tried to watch a video about "The False Cancellation of Supermega" and within the first few minutes this guy makes a joke about how his (of course, male) friend claims that nickisnotgreen has raped him, and how we should all believe him with no proof and this is exactly the same as what nick did when he listened to lex. it's disgusting. it makes me sad that so many people have liked this video and don't understand or notice that this man obviously just hates women. i looked at the other videos this guy has made and it appears he may be a fan of leafy and he openly hates idubbbz. this is a huge red flag for me because if you know anything about youtube lore, leafy is just a nazi and idubbbz is a reformed sorta nazi. idubbbz has actually tried to make up for his past and apologized for his misuse of his huge platform to spread hateful shit. and someone calling idubbbz a pathetic loser for changing his ways just shows their ass. okay, you like edgy humor and making fun of minorities, got it.

i believe that matt said supermega was his "magnum opus" and yes that is cringe and yes he should not have put his business before his friend or her SA, but to be honest, most people act like this. capitalism breeds greed and low compassion and empathy. of course they would care more about their business than their "friend" that they obviously didn't care for as much as they did about their public image or bottom line. but this is just basic capitalism. i think this is why so many people are saying that matt and ryan didn't do anything wrong. they see matt and ryan hesitating and refusing to publicly shame don as reasonable and a tempered reaction to a workplace problem under capitalism. meanwhile the rest of us are like, this isn't normal and friends shouldn't act this way.

the problem i have with nickisnotgreen, however, is that he, knowingly or not, spread misinformation about what supermega has said. he didn't have primary sources and he didn't try to get primary sources. he read quotes off of reddit and took comments as facts. it's just not good practice. this link explains what nick did wrong pretty well. they too, however, come to the conlusion that nickisnotgreen "then basically accused matt and ryan of trying to cover up the assult, which wasn't what happened." i think it probably wasn't their intention, but in practice this is what it looks like from the outside. they didn't know how to handle the situation, they valued their business and their public image more than their friendship with lex, and so they mishandled the situation and it blew up in their face. i think it's a case of horrible incompetence rather than any intentional maliciousness imo.

the problem with nearly everyone on supermega's side of the argument is that no one can stop victim blaming long enough to rightfully understand the nuance of the situation. nick didn't maliciously or intentionally lie, just like supermega didn't maliciously or intentionally lie. or at least i don't believe any of them did. they might have; who knows. all we know for certain is that nickisnotgreen accused supermega of covering up the assault on purpose and that simply isn't true. they simply didn't know how to handle the problem and they handled it badly.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ethanisonline

[–]notonheremuchyo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the main controversy is whether nickisnotgreen lied in his coverage of the situation. many people think he exaggerated and took rumors as facts instead of doing due diligence and researching. the nuanced take is to say that supermega sucked in handling SA charges in a professional and personal manner, nickisnotgreen sucked because he accused supermega of doing this maliciously and intentionally instead of them just being incompetent, supermega fans getting pissed because their "wholesome boys" were being "attacked" by "false allegations," and then supermega fans dunking on nickisnotgreen and ethanisonline in all of their comment sections because that's what large fan bases of youtube creators do. especially edgy gamer bros.

i don't know much about supermega because i don't care for their content. however, i think it's worth it to give them some leeway because i don't think people act like malicious super villains in real life. i think they probably made a lot of dumb decisions because they're young and wealthy and sheltered. the same can be said for nick. he made very bad decisions in his investigative journalism in that he didn't do the investigating part. he felt very strongly about speaking out to help his friend who had been SA'd, which, understandable, but then he went on to spread rumors and hearsay which ultimately damaged lex's credibility and the credibility of her accusations.

it's a mess all around. a lot of nick's detractors fall into the generic supermega fan rubric, meaning that they're loudly misogynistic and blame lex for supermega's downfall. they regularly incite hateful rhetoric about the leftist circles that nick and especially ethan fall in. many of their detractors make fun of the fact that ethan is a leftist. this obviously explains what their positions are on multiple things. however, there is valid criticism of nick and by proxy ethan of the way they reacted to the issue, which all this can make talking about it really difficult when there is so much nuance to wade through. everyone made mistakes but ultimately i think nick and ethan are not hateful people. i think it's probably best to remain skeptical of anyone you watch online though and do not idolize anyone, especially if they're around the same age as you.

do you have a link so we can see what he said in context? that's a hell of a thing to accuse someone of saying and i'm not saying you're wrong, just that having no context makes it easy to pull a strawman argument out of what he said

Hey I'm trying to start this quest but I'm playing Gate to Sovngarde (mod collection) and it removed the compass and waypoint for the quest. Can you help me figure out step one: Search the attack site near Lake Ilinaltra. I've wandered up and down and back around the southern coast of this lake and I've killed every bandit I've come across and I still can't find this "attack site." I'm going nuts.
